Straight Stairlift

The standard for Santa Monica's duplexes, bungalows, and Wilshire corridor condos.

Over 60% of the stairlifts we install across Santa Monica are straight models. The rail bolts to your stair treads — never into the wall — the seat and footrest fold up out of the way, and the battery backup keeps you moving through the next outage. Most duplex, bungalow, and condo installs wrap in under four hours.

Our Coverage Area

Stairlift Service Across Los Angeles County

Los Angeles County, CA

From the Spanish Colonial Revival estates North of Montana — where curved rails thread past 1920s wrought-iron balusters and hand-laid Malibu tile risers without touching either — to the 1920s bungalow courts of Ocean Park where exterior steps need weather-sealed outdoor rails, our team has mapped every block. We know which Sunset Park duplexes have the narrow 33-inch stairwells that need our slim-profile seat, which Wilshire-Montana condos have the standard straight runs that install in under three hours, and which Pico bungalows need bilingual service from the first phone call through the operating walkthrough.

We also staff dedicated coverage for Mid-City, Northeast Santa Monica, Beverly Hills, and the full Westside corridor.

1936 Colonial Revival — straight rail on original white oak treads

North of Montana, CA Installed March 2026

A 1936 Colonial Revival on a tree-lined block North of Montana with original white-oak treads, a mahogany banister, and a homeowner who made it clear the stairlift must not alter a house she has lived in for 43 years. We specified the slim-profile rail in an antique bronze finish that complements the oak grain, bolted the track into the treads only — never touched the mahogany banister, the plaster walls, or the original crown molding at the landing. The beige seat sits unfolded against the open-tread hardwood staircase in the warm residential entry. Mrs. Feldstein tested it twice before we finished the paperwork and was back in her upstairs bedroom that night.

1928 San Vicente Spanish Colonial — curved rail past wrought-iron balusters

Wilshire-Montana, CA Installed February 2026

A 1928 Spanish Colonial Revival on San Vicente Boulevard with a sweeping interior staircase, hand-forged wrought-iron balusters, and original Malibu tile risers the family refused to let anyone drill into. We digitally scanned the staircase during the first visit, fabricated a curved rail that threads the full arc past every iron baluster without grazing a single one, and bolted the track into the wood treads between the decorative tiles. The brown-upholstered seat parks at the upper landing beneath the arch. Mrs. Medina's mother rode it for the first time and cried — the family had been carrying her upstairs for three months.

1924 Ocean Park bungalow court — compact rail on terrazzo entry steps

Ocean Park, CA Installed January 2026

A 1924 bungalow in an Ocean Park courtyard complex with interior steps faced in original terrazzo — a decorative choice common in early Southern California bungalow courts that makes standard bracket mounting tricky. The terrazzo surface sits over a wood-framed substructure, so we drilled through the stone facing into the solid fir stringers beneath, used stainless steel expansion anchors rated for the substrate, and sealed every penetration point. The brown-upholstered seat parks next to a wooden storage cabinet in the compact cottage-scale entryway. Mr. Yamamoto uses a walker to the base, rides up, and picks up a second walker at the top.

Pico bungalow — coastal-sealed outdoor rail on stone paving entry steps

Pico, CA Installed December 2025

A 1952 bungalow in the Pico neighborhood with a raised front entry, five exterior poured-concrete steps with a decorative stone-paver overlay, and full coastal exposure — morning fog, salt air, afternoon sun. Abuela had slipped on these steps coming back from the Virginia Avenue Park market. We anchored the rail through the stone pavers into the concrete slab with marine-grade stainless hardware, sealed every motor housing to IP54, and applied the coastal corrosion coating. The cream-colored outdoor seat catches natural daylight on the covered porch. Todo en español, from the first phone call through the walkthrough. Six months of ocean fog and not one problem.

Sunset Park duplex — straight rail on carpeted stairs in a narrow stairwell

Sunset Park, CA Installed November 2025

A 1955 duplex in Sunset Park with a narrow enclosed stairwell — 33 inches wide — and wall-to-wall carpet over foam padding on every tread. Two other companies told Mrs. Patterson she would need to tear out the carpet or move to a single-story apartment. We specified the slim-profile seat that folds to just 10 inches from the wall, leaving 23 inches of clear walkway, and used our compression-plate mounting system that bolts through carpet and pad into the plywood tread below. The brown-upholstered seat matches the carpet tones at the landing. Mrs. Patterson is 79, has lived there 31 years under rent control, and is not moving.

Platform Lift

Mid-City residence — indoor wheelchair platform lift with yellow safety edges

Mid-City, CA Installed October 2025

A 1990s two-story home in Mid-City Santa Monica where Mr. Okafor uses a power wheelchair full-time after a stroke two years ago. A seated stairlift was never an option — he needed to ride his chair between the ground-floor living area and the upstairs bedroom. We installed an indoor wheelchair platform lift on the main staircase with high-visibility yellow safety edges around the full platform perimeter, automatic fold-down ramps at both levels, and a keyed call station. The flat black anti-slip platform rises in about 15 seconds. The HCBA Waiver through LA County covered most of the cost. Mr. Okafor has used it daily since install without a single service call.

Common Questions

Everything Santa Monica Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift cost in Santa Monica right now?

Straight rails in standard Santa Monica homes — the Sunset Park duplexes, the Pico bungalows, the Wilshire condos — run $2,800 to $5,500 installed. Curved rails run $9,000 to $15,000 because the rail is manufactured to your exact geometry. Outdoor models with coastal corrosion protection run $4,000 to $7,500. Every quote is written, honored for 30 days, and includes installation, rail, seat, battery backup, and the first service visit.

Are prices higher in Santa Monica than other LA neighborhoods?

Equipment prices are identical whether you're North of Montana or in a Pico duplex. What varies slightly is install labor for unusual conditions: reinforced mounting for wrought-iron-and-tile Spanish Colonial staircases, marine-grade coating on any outdoor install within five miles of the Pacific, and accommodation paperwork for Ocean Park bungalow courts. We tell you the line items upfront.

I'm a renter. Who pays for the stairlift?

Under California FEHA, your landlord must allow the installation as a reasonable accommodation for a documented disability — but the tenant typically pays for the equipment and installation, and agrees to remove it at move-out (or offer it to the next tenant). We provide the FEHA accommodation-request letter citing Government Code 12927 at no charge and have helped dozens of Westside renters get landlord approval.

Is it cheaper to move than to install a stairlift in Santa Monica?

In Santa Monica, a single-story home averages well over $2 million. A straight stairlift starts at $2,800. Even a curved rail at $15,000 is a fraction of the cost of buying a different house — before you factor in moving costs, Prop 13 property tax reassessment, and the emotional cost of leaving a rent-controlled apartment or a home your family has lived in for decades.

A word from Luis

Most Santa Monica families call me after a fall on the interior stairs of a 1920s Spanish Colonial on San Vicente, or a daughter in New York calling about her mother in a two-story Ocean Park bungalow court who hasn't been upstairs in months since a fractured hip healed wrong.

My job is simple: drive to your house within 24 hours, measure once, and give you a price that's honored for 30 days. No pressure. No upsells. En español si lo prefiere.
