Straight Stairlift

The standard for Santa Clara's mid-century ranches, Eichler townhomes, and Rivermark two-stories.

Over 70% of the stairlifts we install across Santa Clara County are straight rails. The rail bolts to your stair treads — never into the wall — the seat and footrest fold up out of the way, and the battery backup keeps you moving through the next PG&E Public Safety Power Shutoff. Most Eichler, ranch, and post-2000 townhouse installs wrap in under four hours.

Our Coverage Area

Stairlift Service Across Santa Clara County

Santa Clara County, CA

From the Eichler communities of Pomeroy Green and Pomeroy West — where the mid-century post-and-beam construction means we bolt into engineered treads, not subfloor, and the open floor plans make rail routing straightforward — to the Victorian and Craftsman homes of the Old Quad near Santa Clara University, where steep, narrow stairs and original woodwork demand careful bracket placement, our team has mapped every pocket of the city. We know which Laurelwood and Westwood ranch homes have the sunken family room that needs a short four-step straight rail, which Rivermark townhouses have the wide modern stairs that install in under three hours, and which Washington Square split-levels have the half-landing turn that requires a curved fabrication.

We also staff dedicated coverage for Sunnyvale, Cupertino, Campbell, and Los Gatos — so you never wait on a tech driving down from San Francisco.

1924 Old Quad bungalow — straight rail on original white oak treads

Old Quad, CA Installed March 2026

A 1924 bungalow two blocks from Santa Clara University with original white oak treads and a Douglas fir banister the family refused to let anyone touch. Mrs. Nakamura had been sleeping on the living room couch for six weeks after a fall on the top step — her daughter found us through the Santa Clara Senior Center. We bolted the rail directly into the dark-stained oak treads, never touched the banister or the original plaster walls, and color-matched the rail bracket covers to the existing stain. The beige seat sits unfolded at the bottom of the open-tread staircase in the warm residential entry. Her daughter tested it first, then Mrs. Nakamura rode it twice before we finished the paperwork. She was back in her own bedroom that night for the first time in six weeks.

1963 Washington Square split-level — curved rail through the upper landing turn

Washington Square, CA Installed February 2026

A 1963 split-level ranch in Washington Square with the classic Silicon Valley layout — five steps up from the entry to the living level, a 90-degree landing turn, then seven more steps to the bedrooms. Two other companies told the Phams they would need two separate straight rails and a transfer at the landing. We laser-scanned the full staircase, fabricated a single curved rail that bends around the half-wall at the upper floor, and installed a swivel-exit seat at the top so Mr. Pham steps off onto level hallway floor. The brown-upholstered seat parks at the upper landing beneath the chandelier. Mrs. Pham recorded the first test ride on her phone and sent it to their son in Portland before we packed up the tools.

Pomeroy Green Eichler — compact straight rail on stone entry steps

Pomeroy Green, CA Installed January 2026

A 1962 Eichler townhome in Pomeroy Green with exposed aggregate stone steps at the garage-to-living-level transition and a wooden storage cabinet beside the stairwell. Mrs. Alvarez had been using the steps with a walker, one hand on the concrete-block wall, twice a day. The compact entryway demanded careful bracket placement — we mounted the brown-upholstered seat on a straight rail bolted into the stone treads, sealed the bracket bases against moisture wicking, and positioned the seat so it parks next to the sideboard without blocking the passage. The cottage-scale space feels unchanged. Mrs. Alvarez uses her walker to the base, rides up, and picks up a second walker at the top. Two walkers, one lift, zero risk.

Laurelwood ranch — outdoor rail on flagstone porch entry steps

Laurelwood, CA Installed December 2025

A 1957 ranch in Laurelwood with a raised front porch, six exterior flagstone steps, and a mature valley oak dropping leaves on everything below. Mr. Gupta is 84 and had stopped leaving the house entirely because the front steps were the only way out. His granddaughter booked the assessment the same day she found us online. We installed a cream-colored outdoor seat on a weather-sealed rail mounted to the rough stone-paved porch treads, added stainless mounting hardware rated for the South Bay moisture, and fitted a leaf guard on the rail track. Natural daylight floods the covered entry. Mr. Gupta rode it to the mailbox the day we finished — his granddaughter said it was the first time he had been outside in four months.

Rivermark townhouse — straight rail on wide carpeted stairs, three-hour install

Rivermark, CA Installed November 2025

A 2004 townhouse in the Rivermark master-planned community with wide, carpeted stairs and modern construction. Mr. Chen's mother had moved in from Taipei six months earlier and the upstairs guest suite was her only private space. She was climbing the stairs on hands and knees by the time Mr. Chen called us. We mounted the rail through the carpet into the subfloor, which holds the brackets more securely than carpet alone, and the thick pile actually dampens vibration during the ride. The brown-upholstered seat matches the carpet tones at the landing area, with tiled floor visible at the base. The seat folds flush to the wall so the stairway stays open for the rest of the household. Mrs. Chen senior has used it every day since without a single service call.

Platform Lift

Westwood ranch — indoor wheelchair platform lift between garage and living level

Westwood, CA Installed October 2025

A 1955 ranch in Westwood where the garage-to-house transition has four interior steps and a narrow doorway — impossible for a wheelchair to clear with a standard ramp. Mr. Torres uses a power wheelchair after a spinal cord injury and had been transferring to a manual chair, bumping up the steps, and transferring back twice a day. His occupational therapist at the VA Palo Alto system referred him to us. We installed an indoor inclined platform lift with a flat black anti-slip platform and yellow high-visibility safety edges on the platform and gate. The orange-toned walls and window in the stairway provide natural light. The platform rises four steps in about 12 seconds, the upper gate opens automatically, and he rolls straight into the kitchen. No transfers, no bumping, no risk. The HISA grant covered the full cost.

Common Questions

Everything Santa Clara Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift cost in Santa Clara right now?

Straight rails in standard Santa Clara homes — the 1950s ranches in Laurelwood, the Eichler townhomes in Pomeroy, the newer two-stories in Rivermark — run $2,800 to $5,500 installed. Curved rails, which you'll need for most 1960s split-level ranches in Washington Square and south of El Camino, run $9,000 to $15,000 because the rail is manufactured to your exact staircase geometry. Outdoor models for raised front porches run $4,000 to $7,500. Every quote is written, honored for 30 days, and includes installation, rail, seat, battery backup, and the first service visit.

Are Santa Clara prices higher because of Silicon Valley labor costs?

Equipment prices are the same across California — we don't inflate quotes for Bay Area zip codes. What varies slightly is install labor for unusual conditions: Eichler post-and-beam mounting in Pomeroy, compensating for non-standard tread depths in 1920s Old Quad bungalows, and HOA accommodation paperwork for age-restricted communities. We tell you the line items upfront. No surprise 'Silicon Valley premiums.'

Is it cheaper to move to a single-story than to install a stairlift?

In Santa Clara County, a single-story home averages well over $1.5 million. A straight stairlift starts at $2,800. Even a curved rail at $15,000 is roughly 1% of the cost of buying a different house — before you factor in moving costs, Prop 13 property tax reassessment, and the emotional cost of leaving a home your family has lived in for decades. The stairlift keeps you in the house you already own.

Do you charge extra for bilingual service?

No. Every South Bay assessment can be conducted in Spanish at your request — Luis is bilingual and has walked dozens of families through every line of the paperwork in their preferred language. Every printed quote, consent form, and operating manual is also available in Spanish. Zero surcharge.

A word from Luis

Most Santa Clara families call me after a fall scare on the original ranch-house stairs in Pomeroy or Laurelwood — a misstep on the narrow treads of a 1950s Eichler, a parent who stopped going upstairs three months ago after a hip replacement at Kaiser Santa Clara, a son in Seattle tracking his mother's grip strength from 800 miles away.

My job is simple: drive to your house within 24 hours, measure once, and give you a price that's honored for 30 days. No pressure. No upsells. En español si lo prefiere.
