Stairlift Service Across Santa Barbara County

Santa Barbara County, CA

From the Spanish Colonial homes in El Pueblo Viejo — where the Historic Landmarks Commission governs exterior modifications and the CSLB license is checked before the first drill bit turns — to the hillside estates on the Riviera where the only way from the garage to the front door is 30 exterior stairs cut into the slope, from the Montecito mansions where curved staircases are architectural centerpieces to the Eastside/Milpas bungalows where Hispanic elders are aging in modest homes they've owned for decades, our team has mapped every neighborhood in the city. We also cover Mission Canyon, Eastern Goleta Valley, Montecito, Summerland, and Goleta — so you never wait on a tech driving in from LA or Ventura.

1940s Mesa Craftsman bungalow — straight rail on original Douglas fir treads

Mesa, CA Installed March 2026

A 1940s California Craftsman bungalow on the Mesa with original Douglas fir banister and dark-stained hardwood treads. Mrs. Brennan was clear: no medical-looking equipment in the front hall. We brought finish samples on the first visit, matched the straight rail to the original fir grain, and bolted into the oak treads only — the banister is completely untouched. The beige seat sits at the bottom of the staircase and folds flat when not in use. The motor housing is IP54-sealed against the coastal salt air, stainless-steel fasteners and marine-grade rail coating ship standard on every Santa Barbara install. Her grandchildren visit every Sunday and have never mentioned the lift.

Montecito estate — curved rail through a sweeping upper landing turn, ironwork untouched

Montecito, CA Installed February 2026

A Spanish Colonial estate in Montecito with a sweeping curved staircase, wrought-iron railings, framed art on the walls, and a chandelier above the upper landing. Mrs. Harrington insisted the lift be invisible to anyone standing in the foyer. We digitally scanned the staircase, matched the rail finish to the existing ironwork, and fabricated a curved rail that bends around the half-wall at the upper floor. The brown-upholstered seat parks at the top landing so she steps off onto the hallway, not the top tread. She hosted a dinner party the following weekend — nobody mentioned the lift until she rode it upstairs at the end of the evening.

El Pueblo Viejo — compact straight rail in a 1927 Spanish Colonial with tile treads

El Pueblo Viejo / Downtown, CA Installed January 2026

A 1927 Spanish Colonial in the El Pueblo Viejo Landmark District with stone-tile tread stairs, a wooden sideboard in the narrow entry hall, and potted plants lining the compact stairwell. The Warrens were concerned about historic-district restrictions — we confirmed that interior installs do not require HLC review. We used masonry anchors in the tile treads and fitted the brown-upholstered seat so it parks next to the hall furniture without blocking the walkway. The compact space demanded careful bracket placement, but the cottage feel of the original entry is completely preserved. The tile risers and original wrought-iron are untouched.

Mission Canyon — outdoor porch-entry lift in a wildfire evacuation zone

Mission Canyon, CA Installed December 2025

A Mission Canyon home in a high-fire-severity zone with eight exterior steps between the stone-paved porch entry and the main living floor. Mrs. Sinclair evacuated during the Thomas Fire in 2017 and could not carry essentials without assistance. We mounted a cream-colored outdoor seat on the rough stone-paved porch steps with stainless-steel fasteners, marine-grade coating, and IP55-sealed motor housing against the coastal fog that rolls into the canyon each morning. The battery backup provides 30-plus rides without grid power — exactly what a PSPS shutoff or an active evacuation order demands. She keeps a go-bag at the top of the stairs now.

Eastside/Milpas — bariatric model on carpeted stairs for post-surgical recovery

Eastside / Milpas, CA Installed November 2025

A 1960s ranch on the Eastside with carpeted stairs and a landing at the midpoint. Sra. Delgado's surgical team at Cottage Health requested the bariatric model specifically — the 22-inch padded seat and 600 lb reinforced frame provided the stability her physical therapist required during recovery. Sra. Delgado's daughter drove up from Oxnard to be present for the assessment. Luis conducted the entire consultation in Spanish — every button, every safety feature, twice through. The brown-upholstered seat matches the carpet tones, and the rail mounts through the carpet into the subfloor. She uses it independently four times a day.

Platform Lift

Riviera hillside — indoor wheelchair platform lift between garage and living level

Riviera, CA Installed October 2025

A Riviera hillside home where the garage-to-living-level transition has five interior steps and a narrow doorway — impossible for a wheelchair to navigate with a standard ramp without major structural work. Mr. Callahan uses a power wheelchair after back surgery complications and had been relying on family members to carry him upstairs twice a day. His physical therapist at Cottage Health referred him to us. We installed an indoor inclined platform lift with a flat black anti-slip platform and yellow high-visibility safety edges on the platform and gate. The terracotta-walled stairway with its window provides natural light. The platform rises five steps in about 15 seconds, the upper gate opens automatically, and he rolls straight into the living room. No transfers, no carrying, no risk. The VA HISA grant covered $6,800 of the cost.

Common Questions

Everything Santa Barbara Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift actually cost in Santa Barbara right now?

Straight rails in standard Santa Barbara homes — the Mesa bungalows, the Eastside ranches, the newer Goleta developments — run $2,800 to $5,500 installed. Curved rails for Montecito estates, Riviera hillside homes, and the Spanish Colonial staircases in El Pueblo Viejo run $9,000 to $15,000 because the rail is manufactured to your exact geometry. Outdoor models for hillside exterior stairs and raised entries run $4,000 to $7,500. Every quote is written, honored for 30 days, and includes installation, rail, seat, battery backup, and the first service visit.

Does the coastal or historic-district spec cost extra?

The coastal spec — stainless fasteners, marine-grade rail coating, sealed motor housing — ships standard on every Santa Barbara install at no surcharge. For homes in the El Pueblo Viejo Landmark District that need an outdoor install requiring Certificate of Appropriateness review, we prepare and file the HLC application at no charge.

Do you charge extra for Spanish-language service?

No. Every Santa Barbara County assessment can be conducted in Spanish at your request — Luis is bilingual and covers the Central Coast market. Every printed quote, consent form, and operating manual is also available in Spanish. Zero surcharge. For the Eastside/Milpas community, it's how we've always done business here.

I rent my home. Can I still get a stairlift?

Yes. Santa Barbara's low homeownership rate means we work with landlords and property managers frequently. California Civil Code Section 1954 and FEHA require landlords to allow reasonable accessibility modifications for tenants with documented disabilities. We provide the accommodation-request letter template and coordinate with your landlord or property manager. The tenant pays for the install; the landlord cannot unreasonably refuse it.

A word from Luis

Most Santa Barbara families call me after a realization that the house they love is becoming the house that confines them — a parent who stopped climbing the Riviera stairs after a hip replacement, a Montecito homeowner who evacuated during the Thomas Fire and realized she couldn't carry the essentials from the second floor, a daughter in LA worried about her father in a Mesa bungalow he's owned since the 1970s.

My job is simple: drive to your house within 24 hours, measure once, and give you a price that's honored for 30 days. No pressure. No upsells. En español si lo prefiere.
