Straight Stairlift

The workhorse of Rochester’s two-story homes — from Park Avenue Arts & Crafts to Brighton split-levels.

Over 70% of the stairlifts we install in Monroe County are this model. A single straight run, the rail bolts to your stair treads (never into the wall), the seat and footrest fold up out of the way, and the cold-rated battery backup keeps you moving through the next lake-effect power outage. Every Rochester install ships with -20°F battery, galvanized brackets, and freeze-thaw-rated hardware as standard — not an upcharge.

Park Avenue Arts & Crafts — slim-profile rail matched to quarter-sawn oak hardwood

Park Avenue, NY Installed February 2026

A 1918 Arts & Crafts home on Park Avenue with original quarter-sawn oak banisters and Stickley-era millwork throughout the front hall. Mrs. Whelan, a retired Kodak engineer, was precise: "Match the oak, don’t touch the millwork, and make it quiet." We specified the slim-profile rail, color-matched to the original oak grain, and installed the soft-start/soft-stop motor so the chair barely whispers. Cold-rated -20°F battery is baseline on every Rochester install. Her bridge club meets in the front parlor every Thursday and nobody has mentioned the lift.

Upper Monroe colonial — 90° curved rail at mid-landing, one continuous ride

Upper Monroe, NY Installed November 2025

A 1952 colonial in Upper Monroe with the mid-landing 90° turn that shows up constantly in Rochester’s postwar suburbs — six steps, a landing, then eight more to the bedrooms. A straight rail was not an option. We laser-scanned the staircase during the first consultation, fabricated a curved rail that carries Mr. Kowalski from the front foyer to the upper hallway in one continuous ride, and added a swivel-exit seat at the top so he steps off onto the hallway floor instead of the top tread. The -20°F cold-rated battery is standard.

Corn Hill rowhouse — 31-inch Victorian stairwell, compact slim-profile rail

Corn Hill, NY Installed March 2026

An 1894 Victorian rowhouse in Corn Hill with a single straight staircase — 31 inches between walls, original maple treads, and a carved newel post the family would not allow us to touch. The challenge wasn’t geometry; it was clearance. We fitted the slimmest rail in our Rochester catalog, folding footrest and folding armrests, leaving 24 inches of clear stair width when the lift is parked. The cold-rated battery and galvanized freeze-thaw hardware are standard on every Monroe County install.

Charlotte lakefront — heated outdoor porch rail for 90+ inches of lake-effect snow

Charlotte, NY Installed December 2025

A 1950s bungalow in Charlotte, two blocks from the Lake Ontario shore, where the front porch steps get the worst of the lake-effect ice every winter. Mrs. Phelps had fallen on the steps twice in one season and her doctor said it couldn’t happen a third time. We installed an outdoor stoop lift with hot-dip galvanized hardware, heated joystick enclosure so the controls don’t freeze, a -20°F cold-pack battery, and a sealed motor housing that keeps ice melt and road salt out of the gearing. It ran through the full 2025-2026 winter — 94 inches of snow — without a cold-weather service call.

Brighton colonial — 14 carpeted treads with swivel-exit at the upper hallway

Brighton, NY Installed January 2026

A 1958 Brighton colonial with 14 carpeted treads, a standard 36-inch stairwell, and a landing that opens into the upstairs hallway. Mrs. DiNapoli’s daughter had moved her from a ground-floor apartment in Irondequoit to the spare bedroom upstairs, and the carpet-covered stairs were the one barrier to full independence. We bolted the rail through the carpet into the treads beneath, mounted the beige-upholstered seat with the swivel-exit feature so she rotates 90 degrees at the top and steps onto the hallway carpet instead of the top step. The cold-rated battery ran through the full winter without a service call. Simple geometry, immediate result.

Platform Lift

19th Ward veteran — indoor wheelchair platform lift with yellow safety edges

19th Ward, NY Installed October 2025

Mr. Daniels is an Army veteran who uses a power wheelchair and needed access between the main floor and the upstairs bedrooms in his 19th Ward home. We installed an inclined platform lift on the indoor stairway with a flat deck and yellow high-visibility safety edges on all sides. The platform folds flush against the wall when not in use so his wife and grandchildren walk the stairs normally. The Canandaigua VA processed the HISA grant — we prefilled VA Form 10-0103 and coordinated with the prosthetics department. He’s made the trip to his own bedroom every night since.

Common Questions

Everything Rochester Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift actually cost in Rochester right now?

Straight rails in standard Rochester homes — the Park Avenue Arts & Crafts, the Brighton colonials, the Irondequoit ranches — run $2,800 to $5,500 installed. Curved rails, which you’ll need for most Corn Hill Victorians, South Wedge workers’ homes with a mid-landing, and Upper Monroe colonials with a 90° turn, run $9,000 to $15,000 because the rail is manufactured to your exact staircase geometry. Outdoor and cold-weather-sealed models for icy front steps and raised porches run $4,000 to $7,500. Every quote is written, honored for 30 days, and includes installation, rail, seat, cold-rated battery backup, and the first service visit.

Are prices different in Rochester than downstate?

Equipment prices are the same across New York State — we don’t inflate quotes for East Avenue or Park Avenue addresses, and we don’t add a surcharge because you’re upstate. What varies slightly is install labor for unusual conditions: narrow Victorian stairwells under 30 inches, multi-turn staircases in pre-1910 homes, and the galvanized cold-weather hardware that’s standard on every Monroe County install. We tell you the line items upfront.

Does the cold-weather battery cost extra?

No. Every Rochester install ships with the cold-weather battery rated to -20°F, hot-dip galvanized bracket hardware, and sealed neoprene isolation washers as standard — not an upcharge. We don’t sell a “Rochester winter package” on top of the base price. The cold-weather spec is the base price. If a company quotes you a stairlift without mentioning freeze-thaw hardware, ask them what happens to the brackets after the third winter.

Any hidden fees for HOA communities in Brighton or Pittsford?

Our quote includes the HOA paperwork we handle for you. We’ve worked with communities across Brighton, Pittsford, Penfield, and the 55+ developments along East Avenue and in the southern suburbs — the reasonable-accommodation letters are already templated. Under the federal Fair Housing Amendments Act and the New York Human Rights Law, HOAs must permit accessibility modifications for disabled residents. What can add cost (rarely) is when a board requires its own engineer’s letter. If that happens, we tell you before we start.

A word from Luis

Most Rochester families call me after something has already happened — a slip on the icy front steps in Corn Hill, a parent who hasn’t been upstairs since October because the Victorian stairs in their South Wedge home are too steep after a knee replacement, a daughter in New York City worried about her father alone in a Park Avenue Arts & Crafts home he’s lived in since 1976.

My job is simple: drive to your house within 24 hours, measure once, and give you a price that’s honored for 30 days. No pressure. No upsells. En español si lo prefiere.
