Palm Coast sits on the Atlantic in northeastern Flagler County with the Intracoastal Waterway as its eastern border and an extensive engineered canal network (46 miles freshwater, 23 miles saltwater) across flat former swamp and pine forest at 30 ft elevation.

Nearly 30% of Palm Coast is 65 or older, and most of my calls come from two-story canal houses where the water view mattered more than the stairs. These lots were platted flat, so the fix is a rail for a stairwell shaped around a boat dock, not site access. Ask for a measure, I don't skimp on track hardware close to the salt air.

What makes Palm Coast different
Why a stairlift installed in Palm Coast, FL is planned around the way this specific community lives, not stamped out from a one-size-fits-all template.
Palm Coast was created by ITT Community Development Corporation in 1969, platted for 48,000 home sites on about 42,000 acres with central water and sewer; its canal-front single-family homes and numerous retiree/55+ communities define the housing stock.
Source ↗Palm Coast is a retiree-heavy bedroom community with a median age of 51.6 and 30.6% of residents aged 65+ (2020), having grown roughly 200% between 2000 and 2020.

We have lived in the P Section since 1983, bought from the original ITT sales office. The stairs to the bonus room have been a problem since my husband turned 78. All American installed a straight rail on the original oak treads in three and a half hours. He is back at his desk upstairs and the rail is quieter than the ceiling fan. Should have done this two years ago.
My father is a retired Navy veteran in Palm Coast and the HISA grant through the Daytona Beach VA Clinic covered the entire outdoor install down to his dock. All American prefilled the paperwork, walked it through the Orlando VA system, and had the prescription back in three weeks. Dad takes his fishing rod down to the canal dock three mornings a week now. He says it is the best thing the VA ever paid for.
The Grand Haven HOA architectural committee approved our curved rail in four days, All American submitted the FHA accommodation packet and handled everything. The rail threads past my mahogany banister without touching it. Three of my neighbors have asked for the phone number since the install. I give it to them every time.
Mi madre moved from Puerto Rico to Lehigh Woods to be near us and slept on the couch for six weeks because she was afraid of the stairs. Luis came, spoke to her in Spanish the entire visit, measured everything, and installed the rail the following week. Ella duerme en su propia cama arriba cada noche. That is all that matters. Gracias de corazón.
I use a power wheelchair and the three steps from the garage into our P Section house were going to force me into assisted living. All American installed a platform lift with yellow edges in one day. My OT from AdventHealth signed off on it and said it was the cleanest residential install she has reviewed. I roll from the garage into the kitchen every morning without help. That is independence.
We have a sunken den in our Pine Lakes home, five stone steps that looked beautiful in 1994 and became impossible after my hip replacement. All American anchored the rail through the stone tile into the slab and I was riding down to my recliner the same afternoon. The view of the 9th hole from that chair is worth every dollar. Best decision we made this year.

Palm Coast is organized by lettered sections, a planning artifact from the ITT days. The P Section (Belle Terre, Pine Grove) is the central residential core with the densest concentration of original 1970s and 1980s concrete-block homes, where the conversation is almost always about a six-step garage-to-living-area split or a bonus-room staircase. The W Section (Pine Lakes) draws retirees to its golf-course community with single-story homes that occasionally have an interior half-flight to a den. Lehigh Woods in the R Section has larger lots, newer two-story floor plans requiring full 14-step straight or curved rails. Grand Haven, the gated community on the Intracoastal, has estate homes with curved staircases that now need a curved rail respecting the original millwork. Along the saltwater canal homes in the C and F Sections, outdoor lifts from the lanai down to the dock are our most-requested product after standard straight rails.

Stairlift Types
Straight Stairlift
Most common · From $3,150
The standard for Palm Coast's concrete-block ranchers and Lehigh Woods two-stories. Over 60% of the stairlifts we install in Palm Coast are straight rails. The rail bolts into your stair treads, never into the wall. The seat and footrest fold flat, and the battery backup keeps you moving through the summer afternoon storms that knock out power across Flagler County. Every unit ships with a humidity-sealed motor housing and high-temperature lubricant rated for 95°F continuous summer heat in attic-adjacent stair cavities.
What's Included
- Battery backup for power outages
- Swivel seat with safety lock
- Two wireless remote controls
- Soft start and soft stop motion
- Fold-up seat, arms, and footrest
- 10-year motor & gearbox warranty
Compared to Alternatives
vs Curved: 3x less expensive and installed in one visit. vs Home elevator: 10-15x less cost and no construction. vs Moving bedroom downstairs: Keeps your home exactly as it is.
Curved Stairlift
Custom-built · From $10,100
Custom-fabricated for the curved staircases in Grand Haven estates and newer two-story floor plans. When your staircase has a curve, a landing turn, or a sweeping entry, the rail has to be manufactured to your exact geometry. We laser-scan during the first visit, fabricate the curved rail in 10-14 days, and install in a single afternoon. We have threaded custom rails past original mahogany banisters in Grand Haven without touching a single spindle, and built continuous-ride rails for the split-level entries common in the older P Section and W Section homes.
What's Included
- Free on-site digital measurement
- Single continuous curved rail
- Handles 90°, 180°, or spiral turns
- Powered swivel at top landing
- Park position out of the walkway
- 10-year warranty on all parts

vs Straight with landing break: One smooth ride instead of transferring seats. vs Home elevator: Half the cost, no construction permits, no shaft needed. vs Moving: A fraction of what selling and relocating costs.
Outdoor Stairlift
Weatherproof · From $4,500
Salt-air sealed, UV-coated, and hurricane-rated for the Flagler County coast. Palm Coast's saltwater canal homes and raised lanai entries need outdoor equipment that handles year-round humidity, salt air from the Intracoastal, and the UV index that degrades unprotected plastics in a single Florida summer. Every outdoor unit ships with stainless-steel fasteners rated for saltwater exposure, a sealed IP55 motor housing, UV-resistant seat upholstery, and high-temperature lubricant. We anchor through stone pavers into the concrete footer and include a 6-month post-hurricane-season service visit in the first-year plan.
What's Included
- Marine-grade weather cover
- All-weather corrosion protection
- Storm-rated anchor system
- Lockable key power switch
- Sealed IP54 control panels

Everything Palm Coast Homeowners Actually Ask
Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding, no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.
What's a typical stairlift cost in Palm Coast?
A straight run, one flight, no turns, usually lands between $2,000 and $4,500 installed, and that covers a fair number of the simpler two-story homes in the older ITT-platted sections. Palm Coast's canal-front houses more often have a landing or a turn partway up because of how the lots were designed around the water, and a custom-curved rail for that runs closer to $8,000 to $15,000 since it has to be built to the exact stairwell.
Do Palm Coast's 55+ communities ever need stairlifts, or are those all single-story?
Most of the 55+ developments here are single-level by design, which is part of why they attracted the retiree population that's now 29.9% of the city. Where I do get calls from those communities, it's usually for a multi-level villa or townhome floor plan, and pricing follows the same straight-vs-curved logic as anywhere else in town: it's the stairwell shape, not the neighborhood, that sets the number.
Is there any financing option if a Palm Coast homeowner can't pay the full amount upfront?
FAAST's New Horizon Loan Program offers low-interest financing for stairlifts and home modifications, generally in the $3,000 to $30,000 range, worth a call before ruling out an install on cost alone. Homeowners here can also look at Florida's standard Homestead Exemption plus the Senior Additional Homestead Exemption, which won't hand you cash for the lift itself but can free up to $50,000 plus another $50,000 in property-tax base reduction that some households redirect toward accessibility work.
How long does a stairlift install take in a Palm Coast canal home?
A straight staircase in one of the older ITT-era single-family homes can often be measured and installed the same day, since there's no custom rail to fabricate. The two-story canal-front homes more commonly need a curved or multi-turn rail built to that specific stairwell, which pushes the timeline out to a scheduled install date rather than same-day.
Does the canal network or the flat terrain affect installation?
Not really. Palm Coast sits at about 30 feet of elevation on flat, engineered ground, so there's no grading or foundation issue to work around the way there might be on a hillier lot. What does matter is the salt air off the saltwater canal side and the Intracoastal border; I spec marine-grade track hardware for those homes so the rail isn't corroding within a couple of years.
Do the 55+ communities have different install requirements than older Palm Coast neighborhoods?
Not structurally. A stairwell is a stairwell whether it's in a 1970s ITT ranch house or a newer 55+ development. The main difference is frequency: since most 55+ product here is single-story, jobs cluster more in the multi-level canal-front houses and the older two-story stock than in the retirement communities themselves.
Does Florida Medicaid cover a stairlift for a Palm Coast homeowner?
Possibly, through the Statewide Medicaid Managed Care Long-Term Care program (SMMC LTC), which lists "Home Accessibility Adaptation" as a mandatory covered service, but the official description points to examples like grab bars and modified toilet seats, not stairlifts by name, so approval is plan-dependent and requires medical-necessity prior authorization. AHCA administers the program; check your specific plan's coverage before assuming it's included.
Is there local help through the Area Agency on Aging for Flagler County?
ElderSource is the Area Agency on Aging for Planning and Service Area 4, which covers Flagler County along with Baker, Clay, Duval, Nassau, St. Johns, and Volusia. Through its Community Care for the Elderly and Home Care for the Elderly programs, ElderSource can fund home and environmental modifications for enrolled seniors; stairlifts aren't named explicitly, but it's worth a call to 904-391-6699 (or the Elder HelpLine at 888-242-4464) to ask what's currently authorized.
What about veterans in Palm Coast, will the VA pay for a stairlift?
Not through the HISA grant: the VA explicitly excludes "porch lifts, and stair glides" and stair lifts from that benefit, even though HISA itself is worth up to $6,800 for a service-connected veteran or $2,000 non-service-connected. A stairlift instead has to go through VA Prosthetics as a medically prescribed item, which has no fixed dollar cap but requires a physician's prescription and VA approval, a meaningful distinction given how many veterans have settled in this retiree-heavy part of Flagler County.

Most of what I install in Palm Coast is in a two-story canal-front house where somebody bought for the water view and didn't think about the stairs until a knee or a hip made the decision for them. This place was platted flat: 30 feet of elevation, engineered canals instead of hills, so site access and foundation work are never the holdup; it's almost always about getting the right rail into a stairwell that was designed around a boat dock, not aging in place. I also tell people straight: the salt air off the Intracoastal side eats cheap hardware, so I don't cut corners on track finish for anyone near the water here.
