Stairlift Service Across Western Connecticut County

Western Connecticut County, CT

From the shingled Victorians and Cape Cods of Rowayton, where salt air off Five Mile River demands marine-grade stainless on every fastener, to the 1920s Colonials of East Norwalk with original oak banisters families refuse to let anyone touch. We know which Silvermine cottages have the fieldstone-to-wood riser transition requiring masonry anchors, which Cranbury split-levels need longer lag bolts through thick carpet and subfloor, and which SoNo brownstones on Washington Street fall inside a Local Historic District that may require HDC review for exterior work. The Broad River and Wolfpit sections west of Route 7 see the most 1970s ranches with interior half-flights — ideal for platform lifts when the homeowner uses a wheelchair. Waterfront condos near Calf Pasture Beach and the converted SoNo mill lofts bring HOA boards that need a Fair Housing Act accommodation packet before approving exterior modifications.

1928 East Norwalk Colonial — straight rail on original oak treads

East Norwalk, CT Installed March 2026

A 1928 Colonial on a tree-lined block two streets from the East Norwalk train station, with original red oak treads and a turned-spindle banister the family has maintained for almost a century. Mrs. Pellegrino had a knee replacement at Norwalk Hospital in January and her orthopedic surgeon told her she wouldn't be cleared for full stair climbing for at least four months. Her son called us on a Tuesday; we measured Wednesday morning. The staircase is a textbook 14-foot straight run — no turns, no landing — but the oak treads had a slight crown from decades of foot traffic. We shimmed two brackets to level the rail and bolted directly into the treads, never touching the banister or the plaster walls. The chair parks flush against the wall at the bottom landing, and the folding footrest clears the front door swing by six inches. Mrs. Pellegrino rode it home from the hospital the following Monday without touching a single stair.

Rowayton waterfront Victorian — curved rail past a 90° upper landing

Rowayton, CT Installed February 2026

A shingled Victorian on Rowayton Avenue, built in 1903, with a formal staircase that turns 90 degrees at the upper landing before delivering you to the second-floor hallway. Mrs. Caruso is 84 and had been sleeping in the downstairs sitting room since Thanksgiving because the upper landing turn made her dizzy. Two other companies told the family they would need two separate lifts — one for the straight run, one for the landing. We laser-scanned the entire staircase and fabricated a single curved rail that carries her from the foyer tile to the upstairs hallway carpet in one continuous ride. The rail threads past the original fir newel post without making contact, and the swivel-exit seat at the top landing lets her step off facing the hallway instead of the top tread. Salt air from Five Mile River is a factor in Rowayton — every fastener is marine-grade stainless, and the motor housing is sealed to IP54. Mrs. Caruso slept in her own bed for the first time in three months the night we finished.

1850s Silvermine cottage — straight rail on stone-and-wood stairs

Silvermine, CT Installed January 2026

A mid-1800s artist's cottage in the Silvermine neighborhood with a narrow interior staircase — stone risers on the first three steps transitioning to wood treads for the remaining nine. The Whelans bought this house in 1971 and raised three children here. Mr. Whelan is 81 and uses a walker after a stroke; the narrow width and the stone-to-wood transition had every other installer telling them a stairlift wouldn't work. We measured the clearance at 28 inches — tight but within spec for a slim-profile rail. The mounting hardware on the stone risers required masonry anchors rated for the load, while the wood treads took standard lag bolts. The transition between the two is invisible once the rail cover is in place. Mr. Whelan tested the ride six times before his wife finally told him to come eat lunch. Their Silvermine neighbors — two of whom are former Silvermine Guild artists — have since asked for our card.

Outdoor

SoNo brownstone — weather-sealed outdoor lift on stone porch steps

South Norwalk (SoNo), CT Installed December 2025

A renovated brownstone on Washington Street in SoNo with seven exterior stone steps from the sidewalk to the front entry — the original brownstone porch from the 1890s, repointed twice but structurally sound. Mr. DaSilva is a retired Norwalk firefighter, 77, with peripheral neuropathy that makes exterior stone steps dangerous in any weather. The stone is slick after rain and lethal after a Connecticut ice storm. We mounted a weather-sealed outdoor rail directly into the stone treads using marine-grade stainless anchors rated for the salt air off Norwalk Harbor, which is less than half a mile south. Every component — motor housing, rail cavity, battery compartment — is sealed to IP55 and UV-coated for the direct afternoon sun that hits Washington Street from April through September. The rail has run through two nor'easters and a February ice storm without a service call. Mr. DaSilva says it's the first winter in five years he hasn't thought about selling the house.

1960s Cranbury split-level — straight rail on carpeted stairs

Cranbury, CT Installed November 2025

A 1964 split-level ranch in Cranbury with wall-to-wall carpeted stairs — the kind of home that was built for a young family and is now occupied by the parents who raised that family 60 years ago. Mrs. Marchetti is 83 and her daughter drives up from Stamford every Saturday to check on her. The carpeted stairs are a straight 13-foot run from the foyer to the bedrooms, and the carpet was thick enough that we had to use longer lag bolts to penetrate through the pile and pad into the subfloor beneath the treads. We tested every anchor point with a torque wrench before mounting the rail. The chair folds flat against the wall so Mr. Marchetti, who still walks the stairs himself, has full clearance on the open side. Their daughter says she stopped waking up at 3 a.m. worried about a phone call. The Marchettis say they stopped arguing about who goes upstairs first.

Platform Lift

Broad River ranch — indoor wheelchair platform lift with safety edges

Broad River, CT Installed October 2025

A 1970s ranch in the Broad River section with a four-step interior rise between the garage-level entry and the main living floor — a common layout in Norwalk ranches built on the hilly terrain west of Route 7. Mr. Jennings is a Navy veteran who uses a power wheelchair after a spinal cord injury. A seated stairlift was not an option; he needed to roll on, ride up, and roll off without transferring. We installed an indoor vertical platform lift with bright yellow safety edges on the platform perimeter, a non-slip surface rated for power chair weight, and automatic fold-down ramps at both levels. The lift runs on standard 120V household current, and we added a dedicated circuit to avoid sharing load with the garage door opener. Mr. Jennings filed his VA HISA grant through the West Haven VA Medical Center — we prefilled VA Form 10-0103, the prescription came back in four weeks, and the VA reimbursed the full $6,800 for his service-connected disability. He rolls from his adapted van through the garage, onto the platform, and into his kitchen without touching a single step.

Common Questions

Everything Norwalk Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift cost in Norwalk right now?

Straight rails in standard Norwalk homes — the Colonials in East Norwalk, the Cranbury split-levels, the Capes along Wolfpit — run $2,800 to $5,500 installed. Curved rails, which you'll need for the Rowayton Victorians with upper-landing turns and the older Silvermine cottages with switchback stairs, run $9,000 to $15,000 because the rail is manufactured to your exact staircase geometry. Outdoor models for brownstone stoops in SoNo and raised porches along the shoreline run $4,000 to $7,500. Every quote is written, honored for 30 days, and includes the rail, seat, battery backup, installation, and your first service visit.

Are prices higher in Rowayton or waterfront neighborhoods?

Equipment prices are identical whether you're on Rowayton Avenue or Route 7 in Broad River. What can add modest cost is the salt-air specification — every install within two miles of Long Island Sound ships with marine-grade stainless fasteners and a sealed IP54 motor housing as baseline, which adds about $150-$300 to the materials. We don't inflate quotes based on your address. The line items are the same; the fastener grade changes for corrosion protection.

Does the CHCPE cover stairlifts for Connecticut seniors?

Yes. The Connecticut Home Care Program for Elders covers environmental modifications including stairlifts under both the Medicaid waiver track and the state-funded tier. Connecticut is one of the few states with a state-funded component for seniors who exceed Medicaid income limits — which is common in Fairfield County. Eligibility requires age 65+, assessed at nursing-facility level of care by the Southwestern CT Agency on Aging, and the stairlift documented in your care plan. Call the SWCAA at the Norwalk Senior Center on Allen Road or the state Elder Helpline at 1-800-445-5394 to request an assessment. We prepare the modification justification paperwork for your case manager.

Do you offer financing for Norwalk homeowners?

Yes — three lending partners with 0% APR for qualified buyers and low fixed-rate plans starting at $79/month. Application is a soft credit pull that doesn't hit your score, takes about four minutes, and approval is usually instant. Many Norwalk families combine financing with the IRS medical deduction or a partial HISA grant to bring the effective monthly cost well below $100. We walk you through the math during the free assessment — on paper, not a screen.

A word from Luis

Most Norwalk families reach out after something specific — a fall on the steep narrow stairs of a 1920s Colonial in East Norwalk, a parent who stopped going upstairs three months ago and nobody said anything, a daughter in Manhattan who just learned her mother in Rowayton hasn't slept in her own bedroom since August. Here's what I do: drive to your house within 24 hours, measure your staircase, give you a written price that holds for 30 days. No games, no markups for Rowayton addresses.
