Straight Stairlift — New Brunswick, NJ

Straight Stairlift

Most common · From $3,250

Fitted for New Brunswick's narrow row-home staircases — measured in person, never over the phone. The row homes and colonials in New Brunswick's older neighborhoods have straight staircases that are steep, narrow, and original. We measure every one in person before quoting, because the difference between 30 inches and 34 inches of tread width determines which rail fits and which doesn't. The battery backup keeps the lift running through any outage, and the seat folds flat so the staircase stays usable for the rest of the household.

Starting at $3,250 installed

What's Included

  • Battery backup for power outages
  • Swivel seat with safety lock
  • Two wireless remote controls

Stairlift Service Across Middlesex County

Middlesex County, NJ

New Brunswick's residential corridors each present distinct stairlift challenges. The Sixth Ward and Joyce Kilmer Avenue hold much of the city's 1910–1940 row-home stock — steep stairs, original woodwork, 30-to-34-inch tread widths that require in-person measurement. The Somerset Street corridor runs toward the Highland Park border, where single-family colonials and two-family homes become more common. We serve both sides of the George Street and Albany Street divides, plus Highland Park and East Franklin within the same scheduling window. North Brunswick and Route 1 corridor installs carry no separate dispatch fee. Every Middlesex County home gets the same in-person measurement, written quote honored for 30 days, and follow-up service coverage.

1920s Sixth Ward row home — rail fitted between original plaster walls

Sixth Ward, NJ Installed March 2026

A 1924 row home in the Sixth Ward with original dark hardwood stairs and oak treads the family had maintained for three generations. The tread width measured 32 inches — tight but workable. We bolted the straight rail directly into the hardwood treads, ran the power cord discreetly along the baseboard, and parked the beige seat at the bottom landing. The original banister and warm oak treads are untouched, and the seat folds flat so the staircase stays open for the rest of the household.

Somerset Street corridor — curved rail bends around the upper landing half-wall

Somerset Street, NJ Installed February 2026

A two-family colonial near the Somerset Street corridor where Mr. Okonkwo's unit occupies the upper floor. The staircase includes a 90° curve around a half-wall at the upper landing — a configuration that rules out any straight rail. We laser-scanned the full run, custom-fabricated a curved rail that bends smoothly around the balustrade, and parked the brown-upholstered seat at the top floor so Mr. Okonkwo steps off directly onto the upstairs hallway. The modern interior, chandelier, and framed art on the landing wall are completely untouched.

Joyce Kilmer Avenue colonial — compact straight rail beside the sideboard

Joyce Kilmer Avenue, NJ Installed January 2026

A 1938 colonial near Joyce Kilmer Avenue with stone-tiled treads and a compact stairwell next to a wooden sideboard and potted plants. The space was tight — traditional cottage feel, no room for a wide rail. We fitted the compact-profile straight rail on the stone treads, positioned the brown-upholstered seat to park at the bottom without blocking the hallway furniture. The cozy, traditional character of the entryway is preserved, and Mr. Delgado's mother rides comfortably between floors without disturbing the family's sideboard or decorative plants.

Outdoor

French Street raised entry — outdoor porch lift on stone-paved steps

French Street, NJ Installed December 2025

Mr. Rivera is an Army veteran who lives in a French Street row home with a raised front porch entry — rough natural stone paving at the base, six exterior steps up to the front door. A ramp would have consumed the entire sidewalk. We installed a weather-resistant cream-colored seat on an outdoor rail, with stainless-steel fasteners and a sealed motor housing rated for New Jersey winters. The VA HISA grant through the Piscataway VA Clinic covered $6,800 of the installation cost. The stone-paved entry and covered porch are unchanged.

Highland Park border — straight rail on carpeted stairs at the landing

Highland Park border, NJ Installed November 2025

A 1947 cape cod on the Highland Park side of the New Brunswick border with carpeted stairs leading to a small landing. The brown carpet-covered treads and tiled floor at the bottom created a warm, standard residential setting. We bolted the straight rail through the carpet into the treads beneath, mounted the brown-upholstered seat that blends with the carpet tones, and positioned the controls near the wall-mounted light switches at the landing. Mrs. Goldstein uses the lift multiple times daily and the carpet shows no wear from the rail anchors.

Platform Lift

Albany Street colonial — indoor wheelchair platform lift for full-time chair user

Albany Street, NJ Installed October 2025

Dr. Park's mother uses a power wheelchair full-time and cannot transfer to a seated stairlift. Their renovated Albany Street colonial has an indoor stairway with warm terracotta-toned walls and a window on the landing. We installed an inclined wheelchair platform lift with a flat black anti-slip deck, bright yellow high-visibility safety edges, and a white handrail. The platform rides the indoor stairway rail and parks flush at the top. Mrs. Park rolls on, rides up, and rolls off — no transfers, no lifting, no assistance required.

Common Questions

Everything New Brunswick Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift cost for a New Brunswick row home?

The row homes on New Brunswick's near-east side and Sixth Ward typically have straight staircases, which puts the cost in the $2,800 to $5,500 installed range. Homes with a turn at a landing — less common in NB but not rare in the older two-family colonials along Somerset Street — run $9,000 to $15,000 for a curved rail, since the track is custom-fabricated to your staircase geometry. Every quote is written, covers equipment and installation, and is valid for 30 days.

Do you charge extra for narrow or steep stairs?

No surcharge for narrower treads or steeper angles, as long as the staircase meets our minimum specs (28-inch clear width, angle under 45°). If the staircase is at or near the limit, we note it at the in-person measurement and tell you which model fits best. We don't quote narrow stairs over the phone — those are exactly the cases where a wrong measurement turns into a wrong-size rail on install day.

Do you offer financing if the VA grant doesn't cover everything?

Yes — three lending partners, 0% APR for qualified buyers, and plans starting at $79 per month. Many New Brunswick veterans combine the HISA grant with a small financing balance to cover the remainder. Application is a soft credit pull, takes four minutes, and approvals are typically instant. We walk through the math during the free assessment so you leave with a clear picture of what the first payment looks like.

Can the stairlift cost be deducted on federal taxes?

Yes, if a licensed physician documents the medical necessity in writing. The IRS classifies stairlifts as qualified medical expenses under Schedule A when prescribed, allowing households that itemize to deduct the full installation cost. Depending on your tax bracket and total medical expenses for the year, the deduction is typically worth $600 to $2,400 back. We provide the physician letter template at no charge. You must itemize rather than take the standard deduction for this to apply.

Most New Brunswick families call me after something has already gone wrong — a slip on the stairs, a parent who hasn't been upstairs in months, a daughter calling from out of state worried about her mother. I get to your house within 24 hours, measure once, and give you a price that's honored for 30 days. No pressure. No upsells.
