Stairlift Service Across Middlesex County

Middlesex County, NJ

In the Middlesex Avenue–Woodwild Park Historic District, 1890–1940 homes on large lawns need curved rails to follow ornate original staircases without touching the period woodwork. Beacon Hill, the borough's highest point at 169 feet, is dense with mid-century split-levels — straight installs, often on narrower staircases where a slim-rail model keeps the handrail usable. Oakland Park mixes 1950s ranches and colonials; outdoor lifts here serve porch-to-driveway access on larger lots. Metuchen Corners has newer construction with standard-width carpeted staircases — fast same-day installs. Near Main Street, older two-story homes from the early 1900s have some of the tightest stairwells in town, where a platform lift often works better than a seated rail for wheelchair access.

Straight Rail on Dark Oak Treads — 1920s Colonial Revival

Woodwild Park, NJ Installed February 2026

The Morrisons' 1926 Colonial Revival on Oak Avenue has original dark hardwood treads — one of the defining features of the Woodwild Park historic district. The stairs run straight up 13 risers with a polished banister on the left. The homeowner's mother, 81, had stopped using the second floor entirely after a near-fall in December.

Curved Rail at 90° Upper Landing — 1890s Victorian

Middlesex Avenue Historic District, NJ Installed March 2026

The Harringtons live in an 1898 Victorian on Middlesex Avenue with a grand staircase that makes a 90-degree turn at the upper landing beneath a crystal chandelier. The house sits in the National Register Middlesex Avenue–Woodwild Park Historic District, and the owners wanted the rail installed without altering any period details. Luis took a 1-hour laser measurement of the full stair geometry.

Compact Straight Rail — 1950s Split-Level on Stone Treads

Beacon Hill, NJ Installed January 2026

The Kowalskis' 1958 split-level on Beacon Hill Drive has stone-faced treads and a compact footprint — the staircase runs between two walls with a wooden sideboard at the base. At 33 inches wide, the stairwell is narrow by modern standards, so Luis used a slim-rail model that parks tight against the wall.

Outdoor Porch Lift — Stone-Paved Entry, 1950s Ranch

Oakland Park, NJ Installed April 2026

The Chens' 1954 ranch on Spear Street has five rough stone steps leading from the driveway to the front porch — the only entrance. The homeowner's father, visiting from overseas for an extended stay, couldn't manage the uneven stone risers with a walker. Luis installed a cream outdoor stairlift with IP55 weather sealing, bolting the rail into the stone treads with stainless-steel anchors.

Carpeted Stairs, Beige-to-Brown Match — 1980s Colonial

Metuchen Corners, NJ Installed March 2026

The Williamses' 1987 colonial in Metuchen Corners has wall-to-wall beige carpet on the staircase — standard-width treads, 12 risers, tiled floor at the base. The homeowner's mother moved in after a stroke left her with partial mobility on her left side. Luis installed a straight rail with a brown seat that contrasts enough to see the edge when sitting down but blends with the carpet tones.

Platform Lift

Indoor Wheelchair Platform — Two-Story Home, Robins Place

Robins Place Historic Area, NJ Installed January 2026

The Rodriguez family lives in a two-story home off Robins Place, near the Middlesex Avenue historic district. Their teenage son uses a manual wheelchair and had been carried up and down the stairs by his parents for years. A seated stairlift wasn't an option — he needed to stay in his chair. Luis installed an inclined platform lift: flat black deck, yellow safety edges, white handrail, powered up the existing staircase.

Common Questions

Everything Metuchen Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

How much does a stairlift cost in Metuchen, NJ?

Straight stairlifts start at $2,800 installed. Curved rails — common in Metuchen's Woodwild Park historic homes and older colonials with landings or turns — start at $9,000. Outdoor lifts for porch access start at $4,000. Heavy-duty models rated to 600 lb start at $5,050. Every quote includes the rail, seat, installation, and a walk-through of how the lift works. Financing runs from $79/month.

Does Medicare cover stairlift installation in Metuchen?

No. Original Medicare (Parts A and B) does not cover stairlifts — they're classified as home modifications, not durable medical equipment. Some Medicare Advantage plans offer limited home-modification benefits, but you need to check your specific plan. The main funding routes for Metuchen residents are the VA HISA grant, New Jersey's MLTSS Medicaid program, and the state-funded JACC program.

Are stairlifts more expensive in older Metuchen homes?

Only if the staircase has turns or landings that require a curved rail. A straight staircase in a 1920s colonial on Hillside Avenue costs the same $2,800 as a straight staircase in a 1980s home in Metuchen Corners. The difference comes down to geometry — if your stairs go straight up with no turns, it's a straight rail, regardless of the house's age. We'll tell you during the free in-home assessment which type you need.

What financing options are available for Metuchen residents?

We offer financing from $79/month with approved credit. Many Metuchen families also use New Jersey's MLTSS Medicaid program (no waitlist, entitlement-based) which covers residential modifications including stairlifts. The NJ FamilyCare Housing Supports Program offers up to $15,000 as a lifetime benefit for home accessibility modifications. Seniors 60+ who don't qualify for Medicaid may be eligible for the JACC program, which includes environmental accessibility adaptations.

A word from Luis

Metuchen has one of the widest ranges of housing stock I work with in Middlesex County. In the Woodwild Park historic district, I'm fitting curved rails into 1890s Victorians with ornate banisters and tight 90-degree landings. Then three blocks over in Beacon Hill, it's a straight shot up a 1950s split-level. The older colonials along Middlesex Avenue often have steep, narrow staircases — 32 to 34 inches wide — where a standard straight rail folds up tight against the wall and leaves the handrail clear. I've done installs on every type of staircase this town has.

The thing about Metuchen is how many families have been here for decades. I'll get a call from someone on Robins Place whose parents bought the house in 1962 — now the parents are in their 80s and the stairs are the problem. We get the rail in, bolt it to the treads, and they stay in the house they raised their kids in. That's the whole point of what we do here.

— Luis Ramírez, Metuchen
Your Next Step

Ready to get started? It's simple.

Metuchen gives you the train to Penn Station in about 50 minutes and a downtown that won the Great American Main Street Award — but the stairs in a 1920s colonial don't care about any of that. They're the same stairs they were when the house was built. A straight rail from $2,800 or a custom curved rail from $9,000 lets you keep the house and the commute and the Farmers Market on Saturdays, without the stairs being the thing that forces a move.

Call Luis at the number above or fill out the form. He'll come out to your house — whether it's on Hillside Avenue in the historic district or a split-level off Grove Avenue — measure the stairs, and give you a real number, not an estimate range. Same-day install on most straight rails.
