Stairlift Service Across Allegheny County

Allegheny County, PA

McCandless Township covers 16.5 square miles of Allegheny County's North Hills. Olde Ingomar has the oldest housing stock — 1920s farmhouses and post-war ranches where stair widths often run under 36 inches, which we fit with narrow-rail straight lifts. Along Peebles Road and near McKnight, 1960s and 1970s split-levels dominate — these almost always have the half-flight staircase with a tight upper landing that calls for a custom curved rail. Highland Road and the Cumberland Road corridor hold larger colonials built in the 1980s and 1990s, many with full curved staircases wrapping the foyer. Perry Knoll and Canterbury are quieter subdivision pockets with mostly ranches and Cape Cods on larger lots — straight-rail territory.

Straight

Straight rail on hardwood stairs in Ingomar ranch

Ingomar, PA Installed February 2026

The Millers' 1958 ranch on West Ingomar Road had original oak treads but a staircase that narrowed to 34 inches at the top. Luis measured the tread width at every step, confirmed a standard straight rail would clear, and bolted it tight against the wall in a single morning. The cream seat parks at the bottom landing, and the handrail stays fully usable for the rest of the family.

Curved

Curved rail around upper landing in Highland colonial

Highland Road Area, PA Installed January 2026

The Kowalskis' 1987 colonial off Highland Road has a staircase that turns 90 degrees at a wide upper landing, with a chandelier overhead. Luis laser-measured every rise and run, then fabricated a curved rail that follows the turn exactly. The brown seat parks at the top landing and the rail hugs the inner wall around the bend without intruding into the foyer. The chandelier clears the rail by four inches.

Straight

Straight rail on stone-tread stairs in Peebles Road area

Peebles Road Corridor, PA Installed March 2026

The DiAngelos' 1972 home off Peebles Road has a compact staircase with stone-faced treads and a wooden sideboard at the base. The stair width was 35 inches, so Luis pre-drilled the stone with a masonry bit before setting the rail anchors. The straight rail fits neatly between the sideboard and the wall, and the brown seat blends with the warm stone tones. Mrs.

Outdoor

Weather-sealed outdoor lift on North Park–area porch

Near North Park, PA Installed October 2025

The Hendersons' home sits on a wooded lot near North Park, with a steep exterior staircase of rough stone pavers from the driveway to the front door. Western Pennsylvania winters — snow, freeze-thaw cycles, road salt — had made the steps treacherous for Mr. Henderson, 81. Luis installed an IP55 outdoor-rated lift on the stone porch with sealed electrical connections and stainless steel anchor bolts that won't corrode.

Straight

Straight rail on carpeted stairs in Perry Knoll ranch

Perry Knoll, PA Installed December 2025

The Simmonses' ranch in the Perry Knoll subdivision has a carpeted staircase with a tiled floor at the base. The beige carpet runs wall-to-wall up the full flight, so Luis used slightly longer bolts to account for the carpet thickness and drove the rail into the wood treads beneath. The brown upholstered seat complements the carpet tones, and the rail hugs the wall side so the opposite handrail stays usable. Mrs.

Platform Lift

Indoor wheelchair platform lift in McKnight-area split-level

McKnight Corridor, PA Installed August 2025

The Washingtons' 1970s split-level near McKnight Road had a straight flight that suited an inclined platform lift for their son, 24, a full-time manual-wheelchair user. Luis installed a flat black deck with yellow safety edges and a white handrail, rated to 600 lb. The platform folds up against the wall when not in use, keeping the staircase passable. The five-hour install included a dedicated power line under the stairs.

Common Questions

Everything McCandless Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift cost in McCandless Township?

A straight stairlift for a standard McCandless staircase starts at $2,800 installed. Curved lifts, which need custom fabrication after a laser measurement of your exact stair turn, start at $9,000. Outdoor lifts for porch or deck stairs start at $4,000. Heavy-duty models rated to 600 lb start at $5,050. These prices include the assessment visit, the rail, the seat, installation, and a walk-through demo with Luis before he leaves. No hidden charges.

Why are curved stairlifts so much more than straight ones?

A straight rail is off-the-shelf — we cut it to length and bolt it down. A curved rail is bent to match your specific staircase: the exact angle of your landing turn, the rise of each tread, the pitch. We spend about an hour on site with a laser measuring every step and turn, then fabricate the rail in our shop. The rail itself costs more to produce, and the install takes longer. But it fits your stairs exactly — no gaps, no shimming.

Does insurance cover stairlift installation in McCandless?

Original Medicare (Parts A and B) does not cover stairlifts — they classify them as home modifications, not durable medical equipment. Some Medicare Advantage plans in Allegheny County offer a home-safety benefit that may cover part of the cost. Pennsylvania's Community HealthChoices (CHC) Waiver, which is Medicaid-based and managed through the Office of Long-Term Living, covers home modifications including stairlifts for eligible residents. Call Luis and he can walk you through which programs apply to your situation.

Can I finance a stairlift in McCandless?

Yes. We offer financing starting at $79 per month through our lending partner. The application takes about ten minutes, and most applicants get an answer the same day. There is no prepayment penalty. Luis can go over the numbers at the assessment so you know exactly what the monthly would be before you commit.

A word from Luis

McCandless homes run the full spread — 1950s ranches off Ingomar where the staircase is dead-center against a wall, 1970s split-levels with a half-flight up and a half-flight down, and big colonials near North Park where the curved stair wraps around a front foyer. The most common call I get is for those mid-century split-levels. The stairs are narrower than today's code, and the landing turn at the top is tight. We measure every inch with a laser, then bend the curved rail at our shop to match exactly. No drywall work, no moving walls — just bolt the rail to the treads and plug it in.

If your house is near McKnight or up toward the Cumberland Road side, you're looking at about three hours for a straight-rail install. If you've got one of those big colonials off Highland with a curved staircase, figure on a morning — we do the laser measurement on day one, fabricate the rail, then install on day two. Either way, the lift is running before lunch. Call me at the 412 number or email and I'll come out to measure your stairs myself. No charge for the assessment.

— Luis Ramírez, McCandless
Your Next Step

Ready to get started? It's simple.

McCandless is a township where most homes were built between 1950 and 1990 — that means real hardwood stairs, varying tread widths, and the kind of staircase geometry that cheap bolt-on rails can't handle. Our shop is local to the North Hills and we've measured stairs in every subdivision from Ingomar to Perry Knoll. The curved rails are bent in-house after a laser measurement on site; the straight rails install in about three hours. No subcontractors, no drywall damage, no surprises.

If you're ready to stop worrying about a fall on the stairs, call Luis at the number above or email [email protected]. He'll come out, measure your stairs, and walk you through which rail fits — and which funding program might cover the cost. Free assessment, no obligation.
