Stairlift Service Across Jefferson County

Jefferson County, IN

The 133-block Madison Historic District — the country's largest contiguous National Historic Landmark District — runs from the Ohio River bluff up into the hilltop neighborhoods. Along Main, Second, and Third Streets, Greek Revival and Italianate homes from 1812–1920 have narrow, steep original staircases. North Madison, annexed in 1952, holds mid-century ranches and split-levels with wider stairwells. The Oak Hill neighborhood on the hilltop has over 100 post-1960 homes. The historic Georgetown district, a free-Black Underground Railroad community dating to the 1820s, sits north of Main along Walnut Street. Hanging Rock Hill and Cragmont Street hold homes on sloped lots with multiple floor levels.

1840s Greek Revival on Second Street

Main Street Historic District, IN Installed March 2026

The Hendersons' 1844 Greek Revival on Second Street had original oak treads — wide, dark, and worn smooth from 180 years of use. The staircase runs straight from the front hall to the second floor, 14 risers. Luis bolted the rail directly to the treads with padded clamps protecting the antique wood. The cream-colored seat matches the warm interior tones, and the fold-up mechanism leaves a 22-inch pass-through for family climbing behind.

Curved rail around an Oak Hill landing

Oak Hill, IN Installed April 2026

The Morrisons' Oak Hill home has a staircase that turns 90 degrees at a half-wall before continuing to the upper landing — a configuration common in the neighborhood's 1970s builds. Luis laser-measured the entire run, accounting for the asymmetrical rise on the inner turn. The brown upholstered seat parks at the top landing, out of the way of the upstairs hallway.

Compact install in an 1830s Georgetown cottage

Georgetown, IN Installed November 2025

The Williams' Georgetown home has a narrow staircase with stone and tile treads — original to the 1830s build, flanked by a wooden sideboard at the base. The staircase is just 31 inches wide. Luis installed the straight rail with a slim profile, the brown seat matching the traditional cottage interior. The rail follows the wall so tightly the sideboard drawer still opens fully.

Outdoor

Outdoor porch lift in North Madison

North Madison, IN Installed May 2026

The Carters' North Madison ranch has a stone-paved entry porch with nine steps leading up from the driveway. After a knee replacement made those steps unsafe, Luis installed an outdoor straight lift on the porch side. The cream-colored seat is IP55-rated, with a weather-sealed aluminum track — built for southern Indiana's freeze-thaw winters and humid summers. A key lock keeps it secure.

Carpeted staircase in the Broadway District

Broadway District, IN Installed February 2026

The Petersons' Broadway District Victorian has a carpeted staircase — beige pile over the original pine treads — with a tiled floor at the base. Thirteen risers, straight run. Luis installed the brown-upholstered seat, which blends with the carpet tones so well it looks like part of the original furnishing plan. The rail brackets bolt through the carpet into the treads beneath; the fibers close back around the mounting points.

Platform Lift

Wheelchair platform on Hanging Rock Hill

Hanging Rock Addition, IN Installed January 2026

The Simmons' split-level on Hanging Rock Hill has an indoor staircase connecting the garage-level entry to the main living floor — seven steps that had become a barrier for their son, who uses a wheelchair. Luis installed an inclined platform lift with a flat black deck, yellow safety edges, and a white handrail. The platform folds up against the wall when not in use.

Common Questions

Everything Madison Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift cost in Madison, Indiana?

A straight stairlift starts at $2,800 installed. Curved rails, which are custom-bent to your staircase, start at $9,000. Outdoor lifts for porch and hillside entries start at $4,000. Heavy-duty models rated to 600 pounds start at $5,050. Every quote includes the assessment, rail fabrication, installation, and a 5-year warranty with lifetime rail coverage.

Are there hidden fees with a Madison stairlift install?

No. The quote from the assessment covers the rail, seat, installation labor, and the first-year service check. The only variable is rail length for curved lifts — the laser measurement on site gives you an exact price before any work starts. Most Madison installs finish in 3 to 4 hours.

Why do curved stairlifts in Madison's historic homes cost more?

Madison's historic homes — particularly the Greek Revival and Italianate builds from the 1840s — often have staircases with 90-degree turns, intermediate landings, or spiral configurations. Each curved rail is a one-off: laser-measured on your stairs, bent at the factory to match exactly, and shipped to Madison for install. There is no stock curved rail.

Can I get financing for a stairlift in Madison?

Yes. Financing starts at $79 per month. We also walk you through funding options during the assessment — the VA HISA grant covers up to $6,800 for qualifying veterans, and Indiana's PathWays for Aging Medicaid waiver can cover the full cost for eligible seniors 60 and older.

A word from Luis

Madison is my favorite kind of town to work in. The 133-block historic district has every stair configuration you can imagine — tight spiral staircases in Greek Revival townhouses, grand curved flights in Italianate mansions on Third Street, narrow servant staircases tucked behind Federal floor plans. I've installed lifts in homes where the treads are original 1840s oak, and you treat that wood with the same care the builders did.

The hilltop neighborhoods like Oak Hill and North Madison are different — wider stairs, split-levels, ranches from the 1960s. Those go faster. The older homes downtown take more time because we measure every rise and run individually before the rail gets bent. Either way, the install is three to four hours, and we bolt to the treads, not the wall. Your plaster and millwork stay exactly as they are.

— Luis Ramírez, Madison
Your Next Step

Ready to get started? It's simple.

Madison sits on a bluff above the Ohio River, halfway between Louisville and Cincinnati — a river town with more historic architecture per block than almost anywhere in the country. That history means beautiful homes, but it also means staircases built before elevators were even an idea. When those stairs stop working for you, a stairlift is the simplest fix.

Call Luis and the team at (812) 265-8900. We'll come out, measure your stairs, and walk you through the PathWays for Aging waiver and HISA grant paperwork if funding is a concern. Most installs happen within a week of the assessment.
