1898 Old Louisville Victorian — rail matched to original walnut banister

Old Louisville, KY Installed March 2026

A three-story 1898 Victorian on St. James Court in Old Louisville. The family’s concern was the original walnut banister — hand-carved, irreplaceable, and protected by the Louisville Metro Landmarks Commission. We brought stain samples on the first visit, matched the rail finish to the existing wood tone, and bolted the track into the dark hardwood stair treads without removing a single spindle. The seat parks at the bottom landing in a warm-toned foyer, folded up and out of the way. The homeowner’s bridge partner walked past it twice before noticing.

Cherokee Triangle Craftsman — 90° curved rail past the original oak newel post

Cherokee Triangle, KY Installed February 2026

A 1922 Craftsman bungalow on Cherokee Road with an L-shaped staircase and a 90° turn at the upper landing. We digitally scanned the staircase geometry during the first visit and custom-fabricated a curved rail that threads past the original oak newel post. The brown-upholstered seat parks at the upper floor hallway and swivels 90° so Mrs. Patel steps off onto level floor. Framed art lines the stairwell wall and a chandelier hangs above the landing — the rail clears both without adjustment.

Germantown shotgun house — slim-profile rail in a 28-inch stairway

Germantown, KY Installed January 2026

An 1880s shotgun house on Goss Avenue in Germantown with a stairway barely 28 inches wide — the narrowest we’ve installed in Louisville. The stone-tread steps sit in a compact, traditional space next to a wooden sideboard with a potted plant in the hallway. We specified the slim-profile model, positioned the rail tight to the wall side, and the brown-upholstered seat parks at the bottom of the stairs. Mrs. Koehler still has 24 inches of walking clearance on the opposite side. Her grandson carries groceries up without brushing the lift.

Butchertown raised entry — outdoor porch lift on stone-paved front steps

Butchertown, KY Installed December 2025

A renovated Butchertown row house with a raised front porch and rough natural stone paving at the entry. Mrs. Nguyen had fallen twice on these exterior steps the previous winter. We bolted the weather-sealed outdoor rail directly into the stone, installed the cream-colored seat with a protective cover, and sealed every component against Louisville’s freeze-thaw cycle. The lift folds flat against the brick when not in use. Mrs. Nguyen’s physical therapist had recommended she stop using the front door entirely — now she uses it every morning for her walk to Waterfront Park.

Crescent Hill colonial — straight rail on carpeted stairs with landing

Crescent Hill, KY Installed November 2025

A 1940s colonial in Crescent Hill with fully carpeted stairs and a small landing halfway up. The brown-upholstered seat blends with the carpet tones so well it nearly disappears on the stairway. We bolted the rail through the carpet into the treads, positioned the seat’s park station at the landing level near the wall-mounted light switches, and confirmed the tiled floor at the bottom provides solid footing when stepping on and off. Mr. Wallace was discharged from Norton Hospital after bilateral knee replacement and was sleeping in his own second-floor bedroom the same night the install was complete.

Platform Lift

PRP veteran’s indoor wheelchair platform lift — VA HISA-funded

Pleasure Ridge Park, KY Installed October 2025

Sgt. Martinez (ret.) uses a power wheelchair after service-connected injuries and needed access between the main floor and the upstairs bedroom hallway in his PRP ranch home. The inclined wheelchair platform lift has a flat black anti-slip deck with yellow high-visibility safety edges and a white handrail. It runs along the indoor stairway, past the orange-painted accent wall and window, carrying Sgt. Martinez and his chair without requiring a transfer to a seat. The VA HISA grant covered $6,800 of the cost — we prefilled VA Form 10-0103 and coordinated directly with Robley Rex VA Medical Center prosthetics.

Common Questions

Everything Louisville Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift cost in Louisville right now?

Straight rails in standard Louisville homes run $2,800 to $5,500 installed. Curved rails — common in Old Louisville Victorians, Cherokee Triangle Craftsman bungalows, and Crescent Hill split-levels — run $9,000 to $15,000 because the rail is manufactured to your staircase geometry. Outdoor and weather-sealed models for raised porches in Portland, Butchertown, and Beechmont run $4,000 to $7,500. Every quote is written, honored for 30 days, and includes installation, rail, seat, battery backup, and the first service visit.

Do Old Louisville or Cherokee Triangle historic homes cost more to install?

The equipment price is the same. What can add $200–$500 is the Louisville Metro Landmarks Commission review — required for any visible exterior alteration in designated historic districts including Old Louisville, Cherokee Triangle, and Butchertown. Interior-only installs rarely trigger Landmarks review, but we check before quoting. If a Certificate of Appropriateness is needed, we prepare and file it at no extra charge. The review typically adds 2–3 weeks to the timeline, not the price.

Are there hidden fees for older Louisville homes with narrow stairs?

No. Our quote covers everything: rail, seat, battery backup, installation labor, and the first service visit. If your Germantown shotgun house or Old Louisville townhouse has stairs under 30 inches wide, we specify the slim-profile model — it costs the same as the standard rail. The only thing that adds cost is when a pre-1960 home needs a dedicated electrical circuit, which we identify during the free assessment and quote separately with a licensed Kentucky electrician.

Do you charge a travel fee for PRP, Valley Station, or Shively?

No travel fees anywhere in Jefferson County — period. We install daily in PRP, Valley Station, Shively, Iroquois, Beechmont, and every neighborhood south and west of the Watterson Expressway. Our installer is Louisville-based, not driving in from Lexington or Cincinnati. Same-day or next-day assessments are standard across the entire 399-square-mile metro area. The quote you receive in Valley Station is the same price structure as St. Matthews or the Highlands.

A word from Luis

Most Louisville families call me after something has already happened — a fall on the hardwood stairs in an Old Louisville Victorian, a father who stopped going upstairs six months after his knee replacement, a daughter in Lexington who found out her mother in the Highlands hasn’t slept in her own bedroom since March.

My job is simple: get to your house within 24 hours, measure once, and give you a price that’s honored for 30 days. No pressure. No upsells. If your home is in a Louisville Metro Landmarks district, I bring the Certificate of Appropriateness paperwork with me on the first visit.
