Stairlift Service Across McHenry County

McHenry County, IL

Lake in the Hills divides into 14 distinct subdivisions, and the stairlift fit varies by era. Boulder Ridge — the gated community north of Algonquin Road — has larger custom homes, some with curved staircases and mid-run landings that need a bent rail. Princeton Crossing, built in the early 2000s by Montalbano Homes, is all townhomes with straight 12-to-14-foot stair runs — the quickest install in the village. Hidden Valley off Willow Street has midsize single-family homes from the 1990s, mostly carpeted stairs with standard width. Lake in the Hills Estates spans the oldest housing stock — some cottages from the late 1940s near Woods Creek Lake, where stairs can be narrower. Big Sky and Crystal Creek are both 1990s/2000s single-family subdivisions with straight oak or carpeted stairs.

Straight

Straight Rail on Dark Hardwood in Boulder Ridge

Boulder Ridge, IL Installed February 2026

The Kowalskis' Boulder Ridge two-story has dark oak treads — a textbook 1990s LITH home: 36-inch stair width, 13-foot run, straight shot from the foyer to the second-floor landing. Luis bolted the rail to the treads in about two hours and had Mrs. Kowalski testing the swivel-and-dismount before noon. The beige seat parks at the bottom; the hardwood seated the rail brackets cleanly.

Curved Rail at Upper Landing in Hidden Valley

Hidden Valley, IL Installed January 2026

The Reeves' Hidden Valley home has a curved staircase bending 90 degrees at the mid-run landing — common in the larger single-family homes built along Grace Drive in the late 1990s. Luis spent an hour laser-measuring every rise, angle, and radius. The custom-bent rail arrived two weeks later; the brown upholstered seat parks at the upper landing, just past the chandelier. The install ran a single visit, five hours.

Compact Straight Install in Princeton Crossing Townhome

Princeton Crossing, IL Installed March 2026

Princeton Crossing townhomes built by Montalbano Homes in the early 2000s have a compact stair layout: 12 feet, straight, stone-tread stairs with a wooden sideboard at the base. Luis installed the brown-upholstered straight rail in the tight space between sideboard and staircase — the rail cleared the cabinet with three inches to spare. The outlet sits behind the sideboard; no cord crosses the walking path.

Outdoor Lift on Front Porch Entry in Big Sky

Big Sky, IL Installed October 2025

The Morrisons' Big Sky home has a stone-paved front entry with five steps up to the door — a trip hazard for Mr. Morrison after his knee replacement. Luis installed a cream-colored outdoor stairlift rated IP55, with a galvanized powder-coat rail and weather-sealed seat cover. Rail anchored into stone pavers with stainless-steel bolts. In January 2026, with overnight lows at 10°F, the lift started on the first try.

Carpeted Stair Install in Lake in the Hills Estates

Lake in the Hills Estates, IL Installed December 2025

The Petersons' 1960s Lake in the Hills Estates home has a carpeted staircase up to the second-floor bedrooms. The brown upholstered seat blends with the neutral carpet tone; the rail is bolted through the carpet into wood treads underneath — no carpet damage, brackets sit flush. The tiled floor at the base gave Luis a level surface for the lower rail stop. Measure, mount, test, done by early afternoon.

Indoor Wheelchair Platform Lift in Crystal Creek

Crystal Creek, IL Installed May 2026

The Davis family's Crystal Creek home needed a solution for their son, a wheelchair user. A seat-based stairlift wouldn't work — he stays in his chair. Luis installed an inclined platform lift: flat black deck, yellow safety edges, white handrails, 600 lb capacity. Rail bolted into the treads; at the top the platform stops flush with the landing so the wheelchair rolls straight off. Ramp folds vertically to 14 inches against the wall.

Common Questions

Everything Lake in the Hills Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift cost in Lake in the Hills, IL?

A straight stairlift starts at $2,800 installed. Curved lifts start at $9,000 — the rail is custom-bent to your staircase after a laser measurement. Outdoor units start at $4,000. Heavy-duty lifts (up to 600 lb) start at $5,050. The price you pay does not change based on which of the 14 LITH subdivisions you live in. We quote the same flat rate whether you're in Princeton Crossing, Boulder Ridge, or a cottage off Woods Creek Lake.

Does Medicare or private insurance cover stairlifts in Illinois?

Original Medicare (Part B) does not cover stairlifts — it classifies them as home modifications, not durable medical equipment. Some Medicare Advantage plans in Illinois offer a home-modification allowance, but it varies by plan. Private long-term-care insurance policies sometimes cover stairlifts; check your policy for home-modification or accessibility-improvement language. We provide an itemized invoice you can submit to your insurer.

How do Lake in the Hills prices compare to Chicago suburbs further east?

The equipment and labor costs are the same as what you'd pay in Schaumburg or Arlington Heights. The difference in Lake in the Hills is that most homes have standard 1990s-era stair geometry — straight runs, 12 to 14 feet, 36 inches wide — which means fewer custom fabrication costs. A curved lift in a Boulder Ridge home will cost more because of the custom rail, same as it would in any Chicago suburb with custom staircases.

Is there financing available for a stairlift in Lake in the Hills?

Yes. Financing starts at $79/month. We work with third-party lenders who offer 12-to-60-month terms. There is no prepayment penalty. We walk you through the application during the in-home assessment — it takes about ten minutes and you'll have an answer before Luis leaves your house.

A word from Luis

Lake in the Hills is different from the older Chicago suburbs further east. Out here, most of the housing stock went up between 1990 and 2005 — which means standard 36-inch stair widths, mostly straight staircases, and predictable installs. About seven out of ten jobs I do in LITH are straight rails on carpeted stairs: three hours, bolt to the treads, no drywall work, done.

The wrinkle is the Boulder Ridge area — some of the custom homes up there have curved staircases with mid-run landings. Those need a one-hour laser measurement on site, and the rail is bent to match your exact stair turn. We've done enough of them now that the fabricator knows the common geometries in those floor plans. For the older cottages around Woods Creek Lake from the 1940s, stair widths can be tighter — 29 or 30 inches — but the Slimline rail fits without touching the opposite wall.

— Luis Ramírez, Lake in the Hills
Your Next Step

Ready to get started? It's simple.

Lake in the Hills went from a summer-cottage retreat in the 1920s to a village of nearly 29,000 in the 1990s building boom — and the staircases reflect that timeline. Whether your home is a 1940s cottage near Woods Creek Lake with narrow stairs or a 2005 two-story in Boulder Ridge with a curved rail, we've done that install before in this village.

Luis brings 15 years of stairlift experience to McHenry County. He'll walk your stairs, measure the run, and tell you honestly what fits — straight rail, curved, or a platform lift for a wheelchair user. Call for an assessment at your home. Most installs take one morning.
