Stairlift Service Across Knox County

Knox County, TN

Fourth & Gill’s 1880s Queen Anne and Craftsman homes have original poplar treads, hand-turned newel posts, and narrow staircases that predate modern code — we bolt the rail into treads only, never touching historic millwork. In Sequoyah Hills and Island Home, Tennessee River bluff lots put 12–16 steps between the garage and main floor; curved rails with mid-landing turns are our most common install here. West Knoxville and Bearden’s 1960s–70s split-levels almost always need a 90-degree turn at the mid-landing. Fountain City’s 1940s–50s ranchers are straightforward straight-rail jobs. Beyond city limits we cover Halls, Powell, and Farragut — all Knox County, no travel surcharge.

Fourth & Gill — straight rail on original dark oak open-tread stairs

Fourth & Gill, TN Installed March 2026

A Queen Anne Victorian in Fourth & Gill with dark hardwood open-tread stairs and an original oak banister. Mrs. Whitmore’s family has owned the house since 1912 and the woodwork was non-negotiable. Luis bolted a straight rail directly into the oak treads — never touching the wall or the historic millwork — and positioned the beige seat at the bottom of the staircase in the warm-toned entry hall. The fold-flat seat and footrest keep the open treads passable when the lift is parked. The preservation district neighbors came over for coffee the following week and didn’t notice the rail until Mrs. Whitmore rode down on it.

Sequoyah Hills — curved rail with 90° bend at the upper landing

Sequoyah Hills, TN Installed February 2026

A 1942 colonial built into the Tennessee River bluffs where the staircase curves 90 degrees at the upper-floor landing beside a half-wall balustrade. Mrs. Campbell’s daughter called from Nashville after her mother stopped using the lower-level laundry room. Luis scanned the geometry, fabricated a curved rail that bends around the balustrade, and parked the brown-upholstered seat at the upper landing so Mrs. Campbell steps off directly onto the hallway. The modern interior — framed art on the walls, a chandelier above the landing — stayed untouched. She did her own laundry the following week for the first time in eight months.

West Knoxville — compact straight rail on stone treads beside a wooden cabinet

West Knoxville, TN Installed January 2026

A 1972 split-level in West Knoxville with stone-tile treads and a compact, traditional layout. The staircase sits next to a wooden sideboard with a potted plant — tight quarters common in this era’s construction. Luis fitted a straight rail with a brown-upholstered fold-flat seat at the bottom landing so the walkway stays clear. The masonry anchors went into the stone substrate without chipping, and the cozy cottage feel of the entry was preserved. Mr. Henderson’s wife said she stopped holding her breath every time he used the stairs.

South Knoxville — outdoor porch entry on natural stone paving

South Knoxville, TN Installed October 2025

A 1960s hillside home off Chapman Highway with a raised front porch and rough natural stone paving at the base of the exterior steps. Mr. Sutton, a Korean War-era veteran, qualified for a HISA grant through the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center. Luis mounted a cream-colored weather-sealed seat on an outdoor rail anchored into the stone paving, with an IP55 motor housing rated for East Tennessee humidity and January ice storms. The covered porch entry keeps the upper station sheltered. Mr. Sutton rides from the stone-paved driveway level to the front door independently, and his HISA grant covered the full cost.

Fountain City — straight rail on carpeted stairs with landing

Fountain City, TN Installed December 2025

A 1952 ranch in Fountain City with carpeted stairs leading down to the basement workshop. The brown-upholstered seat blends with the warm carpet tones on the treads, and the rail is mounted through the carpet into the wood substructure beneath. Mr. Douglas is a retired woodworker who hadn’t been able to reach his shop in two years after a knee replacement. Luis installed a straight rail with a swivel-exit at the bottom landing where the tiled basement floor begins. Wall-mounted light switches beside the landing stayed accessible. Mr. Douglas called the following week to say he’d finished his first project in two years — a birdhouse for his granddaughter.

Platform Lift

Bearden — indoor wheelchair platform lift for a multigenerational household

Bearden, TN Installed November 2025

A 1965 ranch in Bearden where Sra. Morales uses a wheelchair and cannot transfer to a seated stairlift. Luis conducted the entire assessment in Spanish, then installed an inclined wheelchair platform lift with a flat black anti-slip platform, yellow high-visibility safety edges, and a white handrail in the indoor stairway between the living area and the bedrooms. The orange-tinted walls and natural window light in the stairwell frame the installation. Sra. Morales rolls her wheelchair onto the platform, locks the brakes, and rides to the upper floor independently. She slept in her own bedroom that night for the first time in three months.

Common Questions

Everything Knoxville Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift actually cost in Knoxville right now?

Straight rails in standard Knox County homes run $2,800 to $5,500 installed. Curved rails — common in Sequoyah Hills hillside homes, Fourth & Gill Victorians with narrow L-turns, and West Knoxville split-levels with mid-landing turns — run $9,000 to $15,000 because the rail is manufactured to your exact staircase geometry. Outdoor models for hillside entries and raised porches run $4,000 to $7,500. Every quote is written, honored for 30 days, and includes installation, rail, seat, battery backup, and the first service visit.

Does Knoxville’s hillside terrain make installs more expensive?

The equipment price is the same across Tennessee. What varies is the rail length and whether you need a curved rail: a Sequoyah Hills home with 16 steps and a mid-landing turn requires more rail than a Fountain City rancher with 12 straight treads. We show you the exact footage and price during the assessment. There are no terrain surcharges.

Do you charge extra for Spanish-language service?

No. Every Knox County assessment can be conducted in Spanish at your request — Luis is bilingual and has walked families near the UT campus and along Kingston Pike through every line of the paperwork in their preferred language. Every printed quote, consent form, and operating manual is also available in Spanish. Zero surcharge.

Is the battery backup included in the price?

Yes. Every Knoxville install ships with a DC battery backup that keeps the lift running through power outages. For homes where the stairwell runs through an unheated section — common in South Knoxville and the older Fountain City ranchers — we include the cold-weather battery spec at no additional charge. It is part of the quote, not listed as an upgrade.

A word from Luis

Most Knoxville families call me after something has already gone wrong — a fall on steep Appalachian-grade stairs in a Fourth & Gill Victorian, a parent who hasn’t been upstairs in months after a knee replacement, a daughter in Nashville worried about her father alone in a Sequoyah Hills house built into the hillside in 1948.

My job is simple: get to your house within 24 hours, measure once, and give you a price that’s honored for 30 days. No pressure. No upsells. En español si lo prefiere.
