Stairlift Service Across Will County

Will County, IL

The Upper Bluff is where our most preservation-sensitive Joliet installs happen. This National Register district has over 500 contributing buildings — Queen Anne Victorians, Italianate mansions, and Colonial Revivals dating to the 1870s — with original oak banisters that are non-negotiable. We bolt into treads only, never the woodwork.

The East Side Historic District, the city’s original “Silk Stocking” neighborhood east of the Des Plaines River, has stately Queen Anne and Georgian Revival homes from 1873–1900 with narrow stairwells and ornate millwork. Cathedral Area Colonials north of Goodson Park have the upper-landing turns that need curved rails. Lakewood Falls two-stories install in three hours flat — wide, level 2004 construction. Western Avenue bungalows need freeze-thaw-rated outdoor hardware for raised front porches.

Straight

Upper Bluff Victorian — straight rail on original oak treads, seat at bottom landing

Upper Bluff Historic District, IL Installed March 2026

A Queen Anne Victorian in the Upper Bluff National Register Historic District with original dark oak treads and a carved newel post maintained for four generations. Mrs. Kowalski had been sleeping on the living room couch for six weeks after she stopped going upstairs entirely. We bolted a straight rail directly into the oak treads, color-matched the finish to the dark walnut stain, and parked the unfolded seat at the bottom landing. Every spindle and every inch of the original banister is untouched. Mrs. Kowalski slept in her own bed that night.

Cathedral Area Colonial — curved rail past the upper landing balustrade

Cathedral Area, IL Installed February 2026

A 1928 Dutch Colonial in the Cathedral Area with a staircase that wraps a 90-degree turn at the upper landing past a decorative balustrade the Brennans refinished in 2019. Two other installers proposed cutting the balustrade short. We laser-scanned the full geometry, fabricated a curved rail that bends around the balustrade with two inches of clearance, and installed a swivel-exit seat so Mr. Brennan steps off onto the upstairs hallway floor. The balustrade is completely untouched. His physical therapist at Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox cleared him for independent use after one demonstration ride.

East Side home — straight rail in compact stairwell with traditional stone trim

East Side Historic District, IL Installed January 2026

A traditional home in the East Side National Register Historic District east of the Des Plaines River, with a compact interior staircase, stone-trimmed risers reflecting Joliet’s quarrying heritage, and a wooden sideboard at the base. Mr. Garza is a retired steelworker referred to us by Senior Services of Will County at 251 N. Center Street. We used slim-profile offset brackets bolted into the wooden tread core beneath the stone veneer and parked the seat next to the sideboard at the bottom. The rail fits the 32-inch stairwell width with clearance for his walker at the landing.

Western Avenue bungalow — outdoor lift on stone-paved front entry steps

Western Avenue, IL Installed December 2025

A 1940s bungalow along Western Avenue with a raised front porch, six exterior steps with stone paving caps, and a covered overhang that stops two feet short of the bottom step. Mrs. Patterson stopped using the front porch entirely after an ice-related slip in February 2025. We mounted a weather-sealed cream outdoor seat along the stone entry steps with stainless hardware rated for the freeze-thaw cycles Will County puts every exterior fastener through between November and March. The motor housing is sealed to IP55 and the batteries are cold-weather-rated to -10°F. Mrs. Patterson sat on her front porch for the first time in ten months the week we installed.

Lakewood Falls two-story — straight rail on carpeted stairs, three-hour install

Lakewood Falls, IL Installed November 2025

A 2004 two-story in the Lakewood Falls subdivision with wide stairs, level treads, and thick builder-grade carpet. Mr. Torres had a knee replacement at AMITA St. Joseph Medical Center and wanted the lift working before he came home from rehab. His son called on a Monday, we measured Tuesday, and installed Thursday. The rail bolts through the carpet into the wooden tread substrate at the landing area — no carpet removal, no refinishing needed. The brown-upholstered seat matches the carpet tones. Mr. Torres rode it home from the front door three days after surgery without touching a single step.

Platform Lift

Pilcher Park area home — indoor inclined wheelchair platform lift with yellow safety edges

Pilcher Park, IL Installed October 2025

A bi-level home near Pilcher Park Nature Center where Mr. Madsen uses a power wheelchair after a construction-site spinal injury. A seated stairlift was not feasible — he needed to ride between floors in his chair. We installed an indoor inclined wheelchair platform lift along the stairway with a flat black anti-slip platform, yellow high-visibility safety edges on every moving surface, and a white handrail mounted to the orange-toned stairway wall. The platform travels along the indoor stairs on a screw-drive motor with battery backup. The Veterans Assistance Commission of Will County at 2400 Glenwood Avenue helped connect Mr. Madsen to HISA funding that covered most of the cost.

Common Questions

Everything Joliet Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift cost in Joliet right now?

Straight rails in standard Joliet homes — the Victorians in the Upper Bluff, the stately homes on the East Side, the newer two-stories in Lakewood Falls — run $2,800 to $5,500 installed. Curved rails for Cathedral Area Colonials and pre-war homes with landing turns run $9,000 to $15,000 because the rail is fabricated to your exact staircase geometry. Outdoor models for raised front porches run $4,000 to $7,500. Every quote is written, honored for 30 days, and includes rail, seat, cold-weather-rated battery backup, installation, and the first service visit.

Are prices different in Joliet than Chicago?

Equipment prices are identical — we do not inflate quotes based on zip code. What varies slightly is install labor for unusual conditions: offset mounting around ornate millwork in East Side homes, tight clearances in narrow pre-1900 stairwells, and cold-weather hardware upgrades that are standard on every Will County install north of I-80. We itemize every line on the quote. No hidden fees, no Chicago premium.

Is the home assessment really free?

Yes. A certified installer drives to your home, measures with a laser, walks your staircase with you, answers every question, and leaves you with a written quote. No charge for the visit, no obligation, no follow-up pressure calls. The quote holds for 30 days. If you want to talk it over with family in Naperville or Bolingbrook first, the price doesn’t change.

Do you charge extra for historic district homes?

No. Joliet has three National Register Historic Districts and over 80 local landmarks — we’ve installed in dozens of them. The extra care required to protect original woodwork, match finishes, and use offset brackets around ornate trim is built into how we work, not billed as a surcharge. If your home requires a Joliet Historic Preservation review for exterior work, we handle the application at no charge.

A word from Luis

Joliet families usually call after the same kind of morning — Dad grabbed the railing in the Upper Bluff Victorian and it wobbled, or Mom hasn’t been downstairs in the Cathedral Area two-story since Thanksgiving. I drive out, measure your staircase, and hand you a written price before I leave the driveway. No upsells. No pressure. If you want to run it past your daughter in Naperville or your son in the city first, the quote holds for 30 days. En español si lo prefiere.
