Stairlift Service Across Perry County

Perry County, KY

Downtown Hazard and the Main Street corridor hold the oldest housing stock — 1920s–1940s two-story frames with tight 7-inch treads. Cornett Hill, rising above the North Fork floodplain, carries the 1950s–1960s coal-era ranches that now house aging residents. Lothair, off East Main Street, is a recognized community with mix of post-war bungalows and newer infill. Bonnyman, northeast of the city, has hollow-road homes on steep lots where outdoor porch lifts handle grade changes. Phoenix Place subdivision offers newer 1990s–2000s homes where platform lifts serve wheelchair users. Happy, along KY-15, sits in a tight valley with classic Appalachian narrow-stair homes built into the hillside.

Straight

1930s Main Street frame home — 14 ft straight rail on oak treads

Downtown Hazard, KY

The Combs family's 1934 two-story frame on Maple Street had 7-inch hardwood treads — tighter than modern standard. Luis bolted the 14-foot straight rail to each tread with pre-drilled anchors. The cream seat parks at the bottom landing, traveling up to the bedroom level. Install took three hours; the original wainscoting and newel post stayed completely intact.

Curved

Lothair post-war bungalow — 90-degree curve at upper landing

Lothair, KY

This Lothair bungalow off East Main Street has a tight 90-degree turn at the top of the stairs where the hall meets the master bedroom. Luis laser-measured the radius and sent for the custom rail; it arrived pre-bent two weeks later. The brown seat parks at the upper landing with the curve to the left in the hall. Install took four hours; high ceilings gave Luis full working clearance.

Phoenix Place 1990s home — compact stone-tread stair, cottage feel

Phoenix Place, KY

The Baileys' Phoenix Place home has a compact interior stair with stone tile treads and a wooden sideboard at the base — classic tight-entry geometry. Luis fitted the short straight rail on the wall side, leaving the banister free. The brown seat tucks close to the sideboard at the bottom landing. Install ran two hours with no wall damage and no trim removed.

Bonnyman hollow-road entry — IP55 outdoor unit on stone porch steps

Bonnyman, KY

The Eversole family's hollow-road home in Bonnyman has a flagstone porch entry that ices over from December through February. Luis installed the IP55-rated outdoor unit with stainless hardware on the stone treads. The cream seat folds flat with a weather cover between uses. Outdoor lifts start at $4,000; this one handled two Perry County winters without a service call.

Cornett Hill 1958 ranch — carpeted stair, tile base, standard residential

Cornett Hill, KY

The Holbrooks' 1958 Cornett Hill ranch has carpeted treads in warm tan tones with tile at the base where the mudroom meets the main level. Luis bolted the straight rail along the inside wall; the brown seat rests near the upper landing on the carpet run. Platform Lift

Happy valley home — inclined wheelchair platform, 600 lb rated

Happy, KY

The Turners in Happy needed their steep interior stair accessible for a power wheelchair — a seat-style lift would have required a dangerous transfer. Luis installed the inclined wheelchair platform: flat black deck, yellow safety edges, white handrail on the open side. Carries up to 600 lb. HISA grant approved through the Hazard VA Clinic on Nautilus Drive; VA paid directly.

Common Questions

Everything Hazard Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift cost in Hazard, KY?

A standard straight stairlift starts at $2,800 installed in Hazard. Curved rails for the multi-turn stairs common in downtown's older frames start at $9,000. Outdoor units for hollow-road porch entries in Bonnyman and Happy start at $4,000. Heavy-duty 600 lb rated lifts start at $5,050. All prices include installation with no trip charge in Perry County.

Are there financing options for stairlifts in Perry County?

Yes. Financing starts at $79 per month, making a straight lift accessible without a large upfront payment. We work with Hazard-area families on flexible terms — call us to discuss options for your budget and current income level.

Does homeowner's insurance cover stairlifts in Kentucky?

Standard homeowner's policies in Kentucky generally do not cover stairlifts as durable medical equipment. Some Medicare Advantage plans and supplemental health policies include a home-modification benefit. We can provide an itemized invoice that your insurer or benefits coordinator may accept for reimbursement review.

Is there a Kentucky tax benefit for stairlift installation?

If a physician documents medical necessity, the cost of a stairlift qualifies as a federal medical expense deduction on Schedule A (Form 1040), subject to the 7.5% AGI threshold. Kentucky conforms to federal treatment for this deduction. Keep the itemized installation invoice — your tax preparer will need it.

A word from Luis

Hazard's terrain shapes every stair I measure. The homes tucked into the hollows off Routes 15 and 80 — places like Lothair, Bonnyman, and Happy — typically have steep entry stairs where the lot drops away fast from the road, sometimes 45 degrees or more. The 1950s and 1960s coal-town ranches on Cornett Hill and around Phoenix Place are more standard geometry, but the basements run deep and the stairwells are narrow. I bolt the rail to the treads, not the walls, so the original paneling stays intact. Downtown Hazard near Main Street has some older two-story frames from the 1920s–1940s with very tight tread depth — I've measured as little as 7 inches on a few Maple Street homes. For veterans, I work directly with the Hazard VA Clinic team at 160 Nautilus Drive to get the HISA grant paperwork lined up before we start. Call me and I'll come measure the same week — no obligation.

Your Next Step

Ready to get started? It's simple.

Hazard's stair geometry is among the most variable we see anywhere in Kentucky — from the tight 7-inch treads in the 1930s Main Street frames to the 45-degree hollow-road entries in Bonnyman and Happy. We measure every home before we quote and bolt the rail to the treads, not the walls, preserving original woodwork in Perry County's older housing stock.

Call our Hazard team or submit the form above for a free in-home assessment. We schedule same-week visits across Perry County, from downtown Hazard to Lothair and Cornett Hill, with no trip charge for local service calls.
