Straight Stairlift — Greenburgh, NY

Straight Stairlift

Most common · From $3,200

The standard for Greenburgh's colonials, raised ranches, and postwar two-stories across Edgemont, Hartsdale, and Fairview. Over 60% of the stairlifts we install across Greenburgh are straight rails. The typical home here — a 1950s or 1960s colonial with a center-hall foyer and a single straight run to the upstairs bedrooms — is exactly what this model handles. The rail bolts to your stair treads (never into the wall or banister), the seat and footrest fold flat, and the battery backup keeps you moving through a winter power outage. Most Greenburgh installs finish in under four hours.

Starting at $3,200 installed

What's Included

  • Battery backup for power outages
  • Swivel seat with safety lock
  • Two wireless remote controls
  • Soft start and soft stop motion
  • Fold-up seat, arms, and footrest
  • 10-year motor & gearbox warranty

Compared to Alternatives

vs Curved: 3x less expensive and installed in one visit. vs Home elevator: 10-15x less cost and no construction. vs Moving bedroom downstairs: Keeps your home exactly as it is.

Our Coverage Area

Stairlift Service Across Westchester County

Westchester County, NY

Greenburgh is six unincorporated hamlets stitched together by the Saw Mill River Parkway. From the colonials and Tudors of Edgemont, where 1940s–1950s center-hall foyers have original oak banisters families refuse to let anyone drill into, to the pre-war Tudor Revivals along East Hartsdale Avenue with plaster half-walls and 90-degree stair turns, our team has measured stairs in every corner of this town. We know which Fairview stone cottages have steep attic conversions needing a compact-profile seat, which South Ardsley raised ranches have the mid-landing turn only a curved rail can solve, and which East Irvington homes have exposed bluestone entries that turn to ice sheets from December through March. The Greenburgh Senior Services office at the Theodore D. Young Community Center coordinates NHTD and MLTC paperwork — we work with them directly.

Straight

Edgemont colonial — straight rail on original oak treads, 1958 build

Edgemont, NY Installed March 2026

A 1958 colonial on a tree-lined cul-de-sac in Edgemont with a straight 14-step run from the center-hall foyer to the upstairs bedrooms. The original oak treads had been refinished once in the 1990s but were still in solid shape — Mrs. Greenwald's one condition was that we not sand, stain, or scratch them. We bolted the rail into the treads with low-profile brackets, threaded the track past the original newel post without touching it, and parked the beige seat flat against the wall at the bottom landing so the front door still swings fully open.

Hartsdale Tudor — curved rail with upper-landing exit past the half-wall

Hartsdale, NY Installed February 2026

A 1941 Tudor Revival off East Hartsdale Avenue with a staircase that bends 90 degrees at the upper landing before opening into the upstairs hallway. The original plaster half-wall on the turn side had a decorative arch that the Patels had restored in 2018 — they were not about to let anyone chip it. We laser-scanned the full run, fabricated a curved rail that follows the turn without touching the plaster arch, and added a powered swivel-exit seat so Mrs. Patel steps off onto the hallway carpet instead of the top tread.

Fairview stone cottage — straight rail alongside fieldstone interior wall

Fairview, NY Installed January 2026

A 1952 stone-and-shingle cottage in Fairview with an interior fieldstone accent wall running the full length of the staircase — a feature the McCarthys consider the soul of the house. The staircase is a straight 12-step run with stone-tile treads typical of postwar Westchester cottages. We bolted the rail exclusively to the treads, kept the track tight to the stone wall without anchoring into the mortar joints, and specified a compact-profile brown seat that parks at the bottom near the wooden sideboard without blocking the narrow hallway.

Outdoor

East Irvington — outdoor lift on bluestone front entry steps

East Irvington, NY Installed December 2025

A 1960s raised ranch in East Irvington with seven exterior bluestone steps from the driveway to the front door — the kind of entry that turns into a sheet of ice from December through March. Mr. Donovan is 81 and had slipped on the top step during a January freeze in 2024. We anchored the rail into the stone paving treads with expansion bolts rated for freeze-thaw cycling, sealed every component against Westchester's wet winters, and installed the cream outdoor seat with a weather cover that locks when not in use. The lift has already run through one full Hudson Valley winter without a service call.

Straight

South Ardsley — straight rail on carpeted stairs in a 1972 raised ranch

South Ardsley, NY Installed November 2025

A 1972 raised ranch in South Ardsley with a straight 11-step run covered in wall-to-wall Berber carpet. Mrs. Chen was clear from the first phone call that the carpet stays. We used extended mounting bolts that pass through the carpet and pad into the plywood subtread, torqued to spec without crushing the Berber weave around the bracket points. The brown seat blends with the carpet tones, and the fold-up footrest keeps the stairway clear when parked at the landing.

Platform Lift

North Elmsford — indoor inclined wheelchair platform on interior stairway

North Elmsford, NY Installed October 2025

A 1985 bi-level in North Elmsford where Mr. Williams uses a power wheelchair after a spinal injury sustained during his service in the Army. A seated stairlift was not an option — he needed to ride his chair between floors. We installed an inclined platform lift along the indoor stairway with a flat black anti-slip platform surface, high-visibility yellow safety edges around the perimeter, and a white handrail. The platform travels the full stair run on a rail mounted to the treads, and the deck folds up against the wall when not in use. Mr. Williams used his HISA grant through the VA Hudson Valley Health Care System to cover the majority of the cost.

Common Questions

Everything Greenburgh Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift cost in Greenburgh right now?

Straight rails in typical Greenburgh homes — the 1950s Edgemont colonials, the 1970s South Ardsley raised ranches, the Fairview cottages — run $2,800 to $5,500 installed. Curved rails for Hartsdale Tudors with landing turns and Edgemont split-levels with mid-stair bends run $9,000 to $15,000 because the rail is custom-manufactured to your exact staircase geometry. Outdoor models sealed for Westchester freeze-thaw and winter ice run $4,000 to $7,500. Every quote is written, honored for 30 days, and includes installation, rail, seat, battery backup, and the first service visit.

Are prices different in Greenburgh than in Scarsdale or White Plains?

Equipment prices are identical across Westchester County — we do not inflate quotes based on zip code or school district. What can vary slightly is install labor for unusual conditions: tight stairwells in pre-war Hartsdale Tudors, steep attic-conversion staircases in Fairview stone cottages, and custom brackets for fieldstone accent walls. We itemize everything on the written quote. No 'Westchester premium' buried in the fine print.

My Edgemont home is worth over a million dollars. Will a stairlift affect resale?

A stairlift bolts into the treads — it doesn't alter the structure, the walls, or the banister. If removed, you're left with a handful of small pilot holes in the stair treads that any Westchester handyman can fill in an afternoon. In Edgemont's market, where buyers skew older and most homes are 60+ years old, accessibility features are increasingly a selling point, not a liability. We've had three Greenburgh clients keep the lift as a line item in their listing — all three sold at or above ask.

Any hidden fees for homes in older Greenburgh neighborhoods?

Our quote covers everything: rail, seat, installation labor, battery backup, and the first service visit. The only add-on we occasionally see in pre-war Hartsdale Tudors and older Fairview cottages is a dedicated electrical circuit when the existing panel can't handle the load. A new circuit adds $200–$400 and requires a Westchester County electrical permit — we pull it for you. We tell you on the first visit, not after.

A word from Luis

Greenburgh families call me when the staircase that worked fine for 40 years suddenly doesn't. It's almost always the same story — a colonial in Edgemont or a Tudor in Hartsdale where the bedrooms are upstairs, the only bathroom with a walk-in shower is upstairs, and somebody just had a knee replaced at White Plains Hospital. The house is paid off, the grandchildren are in the school district, and selling is not on the table.

I drive to your house within 24 hours, measure once, and leave you a written price good for 30 days. No pressure, no upsells, no follow-up from a sales desk.
