Stairlift Service Across Gaston County

Gaston County, NC

From the textile-era mill houses of Firestone and Loray — built between 1900 and 1930 with narrow lots, steep stairs, and original heart-pine treads that require reinforced mounting brackets — to the Tudors and Colonials of Highland and Westover Hills, where we thread curved rails past original hardwood banisters without touching a single spindle. The Olde Colony and York-Chester split-levels from the 1950s almost always need a curved rail for the mid-landing turn. Robinson's mix of Cape Cods and raised ranches accounts for nearly a fifth of our Gaston County volume, and Catawba Heights mill houses near the river occasionally need tread reinforcement before mounting. Lineberger Park's narrow 1920s stairwells demand our slimmest compact-profile rail to preserve usable stair width.

1918 Firestone mill house — heart-pine treads, rail color-matched to century-old wood

Firestone/Loray, NC Installed March 2026

A 1918 textile mill house in the Firestone village with original heart-pine treads and a narrow stairway typical of the worker housing built for the old Firestone Textiles plant. Mrs. Carpenter's son called from Charlotte after his mother fell on the fifth step. The straight rail bolts directly into the dark hardwood treads without touching the banister, the seat sits at the bottom landing in warm indoor light, and the folding seat leaves 24 inches of stair width for her grandchildren to pass.

Highland Tudor — curved rail bends around the upper landing past original oak millwork

Highland, NC Installed February 2026

A 1928 Tudor in Highland with a sweeping staircase and a 90° turn at the upper landing. The family refused to alter the original dark-stained oak. We digitally scanned the staircase, fabricated a single continuous curved rail that bends around the half-wall at the upper floor, and installed it in one afternoon. The chair parks at the top-floor hallway so Mr. Stowe steps off directly onto the landing — framed art on the wall, chandelier above, and not a single spindle touched.

York-Chester cottage — compact straight rail alongside the family sideboard

York-Chester, NC Installed January 2026

A 1940s cottage in the York-Chester Historic District with stone-tread stairs, a wooden sideboard at the bottom landing, and a potted plant that Mrs. Abernathy refused to move. The space is compact — traditional layout, furniture close to the staircase — so we fitted a slim-profile straight rail that tucks the seat against the wall at the bottom next to the sideboard. Cozy, tight, and every inch accounted for.

Robinson raised front porch — weather-sealed over natural stone paving

Robinson, NC Installed December 2025

A 1950s ranch in Robinson with a raised front porch and six exterior steps over rough natural stone paving. Mr. Warren is a Vietnam-era veteran who qualified for a HISA grant through the Salisbury VA Medical Center. The cream-colored weather-resistant seat rides up to the covered porch entry, every bracket is sealed against Piedmont humidity with IP54-rated housing, and the rail is anchored into the stone-paved entry floor. Natural daylight floods the open porch — no enclosed stairwell, just open air and a clear path to the front door.

Olde Colony split-level — straight rail on carpeted treads, seat matches carpet tones

Olde Colony, NC Installed November 2025

A 1958 split-level in Olde Colony with 13 carpeted treads and a landing area at the top. Mrs. Rhyne's biggest worry was stepping off safely at the upper landing where her husband had stumbled the previous summer. We bolted the straight rail through the carpet into the wooden treads beneath — no carpet removal, no re-laying. The brown-upholstered seat blends with the carpet tones, and the swivel-exit rotates her 90° at the top so she stands on the tiled landing floor instead of the top step.

Platform Lift

Catawba Heights — indoor wheelchair platform lift for a veteran who cannot transfer

Catawba Heights, NC Installed October 2025

Mr. Kiser is a wheelchair user in a Catawba Heights mill house who cannot transfer to a seated stairlift. We installed an inclined wheelchair platform lift on the indoor stairway — a flat black anti-slip platform with high-visibility yellow safety edges and a white handrail. The platform rides the rail at a steady incline past the warm-toned interior walls, and Mr. Kiser rolls on at the bottom, rides up, and rolls off at the top without ever leaving his chair. His wife said it was the first time he'd been upstairs in six months.

Common Questions

Everything Gastonia Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift actually cost in Gaston County right now?

Straight rails in standard Gastonia homes — the Firestone mill houses, the Olde Colony ranches, the Robinson Cape Cods — run $2,800 to $5,500 installed. Curved rails, which you'll need for Highland Tudors with mid-landing turns and Westover Hills Colonials with 90° staircase bends, run $9,000 to $15,000 because the rail is manufactured to your exact geometry. Outdoor models for raised front porches and basement entries run $4,000 to $7,500. Every quote is written, honored for 30 days, and includes installation, rail, seat, battery backup, and the first service visit.

Are prices different in Gastonia than Charlotte?

Equipment prices are the same across the Charlotte metro — we don't inflate quotes for Highland or Westover Hills addresses, and we don't add a travel fee for being 25 miles west of Charlotte. What varies slightly is install labor for unusual conditions: reinforcing century-old heart-pine treads in Firestone mill houses, preserving original banisters in pre-war Highland homes, and the occasional electrical upgrade in a 1920s mill village house that still runs undersized wiring. We tell you the line items upfront.

Is a used or refurbished stairlift worth considering?

For straight staircases, a certified refurbished unit can save 30-40% off a new install — we carry factory-reconditioned straight rails with new upholstery, new batteries, and a 2-year warranty. For curved rails, refurbished is almost never an option because the rail is custom-manufactured for a specific staircase. If your Gaston County home has a standard straight run, ask us about refurbished inventory during the assessment.

My Firestone mill house has century-old stairs. Will the treads hold?

Heart-pine treads from the 1910s and 1920s are actually harder than modern softwoods — the grain is tighter and denser because old-growth pine was used. We drill test holes during the assessment to confirm tread integrity. In the rare case where a tread has moisture damage or rot (more common in Catawba Heights homes near the river), we reinforce or sister the tread before mounting. We tell you on assessment day, not install day.

A word from Luis

Most Gastonia families call me after something has already happened — a fall on the steep mill-house stairs in Firestone, a parent who hasn't been upstairs in months after a knee replacement, a daughter in Charlotte calling because her father in Westover Hills refuses to sell the home he's lived in since he worked at Firestone Textiles.

My job is simple: drive to your house within 24 hours, measure once, and give you a price that's honored for 30 days. No pressure. No upsells. I know the Gaston County housing stock — I've been in hundreds of these mill homes.
