Straight Stairlift — Fall River, MA

Straight Stairlift

Most common · From $3,200

The standard for Fall River's triple-deckers and Victorian stairwells — slim enough for 28-inch passages. Over 70% of the stairlifts we install across Bristol County are this model. A single straight run, the rail bolts to your stair treads (never into the wall or plaster), the seat and footrest fold to just 11 inches from the wall, and the cold-pack battery keeps you moving through the next nor'easter power outage. Most Fall River installs — including triple-decker stairwells — finish in under four hours.

Starting at $3,200 installed

What's Included

  • Battery backup for power outages
  • Swivel seat with safety lock
  • Two wireless remote controls

Stairlift Service Across Bristol County

Bristol County, MA

From the Victorian mansions of the Highlands — wide staircases, original millwork, homes on the National Register — where the conversation is about preserving century-old banisters and plaster walls, to the triple-decker blocks of Flint Village and Globe Village where narrow stairwells built for mill workers require custom-trimmed rails and angle-shimmed brackets, our team has mapped every neighborhood. We know which Maplewood single-families have the steep 1920s pitch that needs a low-profile seat to clear the ceiling, which South End and Corky Row row houses have shared-entry stairwells where the rail must fold flat for other tenants, and which North End Victorians in the Lower Highlands Historic District need exterior modification review. We also cover Somerset, Swansea, Westport, and Freetown — no travel surcharges south of Route 24.

1898 Highlands Victorian — straight rail matched to original oak treads

The Highlands, MA Installed March 2026

A three-story 1898 Victorian in the Highlands Historic District with original quarter-sawn oak treads, a turned walnut banister, and plaster walls the homeowner was not about to let anyone nick. Mrs. Sullivan had been sleeping in the parlor for six weeks after a fall on the stairs. We measured Tuesday, confirmed the straight run from the first to second floor had no turns, and installed Thursday. The rail was color-matched to the original oak — a dark honey tone that blends into the treads when the seat is parked at the landing.

1920s Maplewood colonial — curved rail through an L-shaped upper landing

Maplewood, MA Installed February 2026

A 1924 colonial in Maplewood with 14 steep treads, an L-shaped turn at the upper landing, and a ceiling line so low that a standard seat would clip the plaster at the top of the run. Two other companies said the staircase was too steep and too tight. We laser-scanned the full geometry, fabricated a curved rail with a low-profile seat that clears the ceiling by three inches at the apex, and added a swivel-exit seat at the top landing so Mr. Medeiros steps off onto level flooring instead of twisting on the top tread.

Corky Row workers' cottage — straight rail on stone treads near sideboard

Corky Row, MA Installed January 2026

An 1890s workers' cottage in Corky Row with a granite-block foundation and stone interior stair treads from the basement to the first floor. Mr. Cabral is 81, speaks Portuguese at home, and had been having his grandson carry laundry up and down twice a week. We used masonry-rated carbide bits, pre-drilled every bracket hole at low RPM into the stone treads, and seated the anchors with structural epoxy. The compact stairwell puts the seat right beside a wooden sideboard at the bottom landing. The consultation happened entirely in Portuguese.

Outdoor

South End triple-decker — outdoor lift on stone-paved front entry

South End, MA Installed December 2025

A South End triple-decker with a raised front entry, eight exterior steps on bluestone pavers, and a grandmother on the first floor who had not left the building in four months because the front steps were too steep to trust. The lift is sealed against Taunton River salt air, marine-coated against the nor'easters that blast the South End waterfront every winter, and the cold-pack battery is rated to minus 10 degrees. The bluestone pavers required masonry anchors at the base — we epoxied every bracket to prevent shifting on the porous surface.

Flint Village triple-decker — straight rail over carpeted stairs, 29-inch stairwell

Flint Village, MA Installed November 2025

A 1905 triple-decker in Flint Village with 15 carpeted treads, a 29-inch stairwell, and a homeowner on the first floor who needed access to the second-floor unit where her disabled adult son lives. The stairwell serves all three units, so the folded rail had to leave enough passage for the upstairs tenants. We used the slim-profile rail with a compact footrest that folds to just 11 inches from the wall, leaving 18 inches of clear passage. The rail bolts through the carpet and pad directly into the century-old yellow pine subfloor in solid condition.

Platform Lift

Globe Village two-family — indoor wheelchair platform lift with yellow safety edges

Globe Village, MA Installed October 2025

A Globe Village two-family with a split-entry vestibule — five steps up to the first-floor unit, a shared landing, and a front door that opens at grade. Mr. Costa uses a power wheelchair after a stroke and could not transfer to a seated stairlift safely. We installed an indoor vertical platform lift with ADA-compliant yellow safety edges on the platform perimeter, interlocked upper and lower gates, and a cold-pack battery backup. The platform fits his wheelchair with room for his home health aide standing beside him. He rolls in from the front door, rides to his unit level, and rolls off into his living room without ever leaving the chair.

Common Questions

Everything Fall River Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift cost in Fall River right now?

Straight rails in standard Fall River homes — the Highlands Victorians, the Maplewood single-families, the South End triple-deckers — run $2,800 to $5,500 installed. Curved rails for homes with landings or L-shaped stairwells run $9,000 to $15,000 because the rail is manufactured to your exact staircase geometry. Outdoor models for raised front entries and porch steps run $4,000 to $7,500. Every quote is written, honored for 30 days, and includes installation, rail, seat, battery backup, and the first service visit.

Are triple-decker installs more expensive than single-family homes?

The equipment cost is the same. What can add labor time in a triple-decker is the narrow stairwell width — many Fall River triple-deckers have stairwells under 30 inches, which requires a slim-profile rail and sometimes custom bracket trimming to clear the plaster walls on both sides. We itemize that upfront. There is no surcharge for multi-unit buildings, and we coordinate with tenants on access scheduling at no extra charge.

Is there a charge for Portuguese-language service?

Zero. Fall River has the largest Portuguese-American community in the United States and a significant portion of our Bristol County consultations happen partly or entirely in Portuguese. Every printed quote, consent form, and operating manual is available in Portuguese at no surcharge. For the families in the South End, Globe Village, and Flint, it is how we should have always done business.

I rent the first floor of a triple-decker. Can I still get a stairlift?

Yes, with landlord permission. Massachusetts HIC regulations allow tenants to install accessibility modifications with written landlord consent. If you are applying through MassHealth Frail Elder Waiver or the MRC Home Modification Loan Program, both programs accept tenant applications with landlord authorization. We prepare the landlord consent form and the reasonable-accommodation letter under Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 151B at no charge.

A word from Luis

Fall River calls are different from anywhere else in Massachusetts. The housing stock is triple-deckers and Victorian workers' homes built between 1890 and 1920 — narrow stairwells, steep pitches, and families who have owned the same building for three generations. The person calling me is usually a daughter or granddaughter living on the first floor, worried about her mother on the second.

I drive out the same day you call, measure your staircase with a laser, and hand you a written quote good for 30 days. No pressure. No upsell. Se habla portugués — falo português.
