Straight Stairlift

Bestseller

The most common solution in East Honolulu's 1960s-80s ranch and two-story homes. Most Aina Haina and Kuliouou interior stair runs are single straight flights that install cleanly in 3 to 4 hours. Every unit we ship to East Honolulu includes a sealed IP55 motor housing and 316-grade stainless fasteners — not as an upgrade, as a baseline. Battery backup is standard, which keeps the lift running through Hawaii's occasional outages. If your staircase is a true single run, this is the fastest and most cost-effective solution we offer in Hawaii.

Starting at $3,150 installed

What's Included

  • Battery backup for power outages

Our Coverage Area

Stairlift Service Across Honolulu County

Honolulu County, HI

East Honolulu spans Hawaii Kai, Portlock, Aina Haina, Kuliouou, Kalama Valley, and the ridge communities above Kalani High School. Hawaii Kai Marina condos and Koko Isle require board approval before interior work; we know which buildings need an engineer's letter and which accept a standard insurance certificate. Portlock hillside homes have exterior stair runs that often exceed 25 steps from carport to entry — outdoor installs here are as common as interior ones. Aina Haina has a mix of 1960s ranch-style homes and two-stories where interior straight-rail installs are the predominant solution. We also serve Waimanalo Beach, Waimanalo, Maunawili, Kailua, and Kaneohe — all within 15 miles.

Portlock hillside home — straight rail on original dark oak treads

Portlock, HI Installed March 2026

A 1970s Portlock hillside home with original dark oak open-tread stairs leading from the ground-floor entry up to the main living level. The warm-toned hardwood treads had been refinished twice since the home was built — the family's only condition was that the rail not damage the wood. We bolted the track directly into the treads using recessed mounting brackets, ran the straight rail along the right side, and parked the beige seat at the bottom landing where the entryway tile meets the first oak tread. The Tanaka family's father took his first ride the same afternoon.

Portlock split-level — curved rail with 90° turn at the upper landing

Portlock, HI Installed February 2026

A 1970s Portlock hillside home with a split-level staircase that turns 90 degrees at the upper landing, wrapping around a half-wall overlooking the lower floor. The brown-upholstered seat parks at the upper floor hallway where the homeowner steps off directly onto the landing — no awkward dismount on a tread. Framed artwork on the walls and a chandelier above give the space a modern, upscale feel. We laser-scanned on the first visit, fabricated the curved rail to clear the half-wall balustrade, and installed in a single afternoon with marine-grade hardware throughout.

Aina Haina 1965 ranch — straight rail in a compact traditional interior

Aina Haina, HI Installed January 2026

A 1965 Aina Haina ranch home with a compact staircase — stone-tile treads, a wooden sideboard with a potted plant at the base, and that warm cottage feel common in older East Honolulu homes. The brown-upholstered seat sits at the bottom next to the sideboard, tucked into the tight space without blocking the hallway. Mrs. Fujimoto's daughter managed the project from Seattle via video call. We color-matched the rail brackets to the existing wood tones and bolted the track into the tread surface without touching the original handrail.

Outdoor

Hawaii Kai hillside — outdoor lift on stone-paved front entry

Hawaii Kai, HI Installed December 2025

A Hawaii Kai hillside home where the primary access barrier was the outdoor entry — rough natural stone paving leading up raised porch steps to the front door. The cream-colored weather-resistant seat sits at the stone-paved landing, sealed against Oahu's salt-fog and UV exposure. We anchored the rail into the stone steps with 316-grade stainless expansion bolts, applied marine-grade powder coat, and installed a weather cover for the seat. The Yamamoto family now reaches their front door independently without navigating the uneven stone surface.

Kuliouou two-story — straight rail on carpeted stairs at the landing

Kuliouou, HI Installed November 2025

A Kuliouou two-story where every step is covered in wall-to-wall carpet — the same warm brown carpet the family installed when they renovated in the early 2000s. The brown-upholstered seat blends with the carpet tones so well that visitors don't notice the lift until someone points it out. We drilled through the carpet into the wood substructure beneath, mounted the straight rail along the wall side, and positioned the seat at the landing where the carpeted stairs meet the tiled lower floor. The Nakamuras' only concern was whether the carpet would be damaged — it wasn't, and a simple patch covers the bracket holes if the lift is ever removed.

Platform Lift

Kalama Valley — indoor inclined wheelchair platform lift for full-time wheelchair user

Kalama Valley, HI Installed October 2025

A Kalama Valley home where the homeowner's husband returned from rehabilitation using a full-time wheelchair and could not transfer to a seated stairlift. We installed an indoor inclined wheelchair platform lift alongside the existing staircase — a flat black anti-slip platform with yellow high-visibility safety edges, white handrails, and a keyed lockout so grandchildren cannot operate it unsupervised. The platform carries the wheelchair and rider from the ground floor to the upper hallway in a single inclined ride. His occupational therapist cleared him for independent use two weeks after installation.

Common Questions

Everything East Honolulu Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift cost in East Honolulu?

Interior straight-rail installs in Hawaii Kai and Aina Haina homes run $2,800 to $5,500 installed, which includes the marine-grade hardware specification we use on every Oahu install. Curved rails for split-level layouts and winder stairs — more common in Portlock and the Kalama Valley hillside homes — run $9,000 to $15,000. Outdoor stairlifts for the elevated lot entries common in East Honolulu run $4,500 to $8,000 depending on rise and rail length. Every quote is written, itemized, and honored for 30 days.

Why does marine-grade hardware cost more — and is it really necessary in East Honolulu?

Yes. Standard 304-stainless fasteners pit within 2-4 years on windward Oahu. Salt infiltrates the motor housing through the fastener threads first, then reaches the gearbox — at which point repair cost approaches the price of a new unit. We use 316-grade stainless fasteners, sealed IP55 motor housings with marine-grade gaskets, and build a 6-month corrosion check into every service plan. That's a different product specification than the mainland, and it's not optional in this climate. We explain the cost difference on the first call.

Does Hawaii Medicaid cover stairlifts for East Honolulu residents?

Yes, through the QUEST Integration 1115 Waiver. Stairlifts qualify as Environmental Accessibility Adaptations under HCBS benefits delivered through your managed care health plan — AlohaCare, HMSA, Kaiser, Ohana, or UnitedHealthcare. Eligibility requires Med-QUEST enrollment, an assessment at nursing-facility level of care by your health plan, and documentation that the stairlift is necessary for community living. Assessment and authorization typically take 45-75 days. We work with all five Med-QUEST health plans and handle the documentation with your assigned service coordinator.

Do you offer financing in Hawaii?

Yes — three lending partners, 0% APR for qualified buyers, and fixed-rate plans from $79/month. Application is a soft credit pull with no score impact, takes about 4 minutes, and is usually same-day approval. Many East Honolulu families combine financing with a partial Med-QUEST authorization or the IRS medical expense deduction to reduce out-of-pocket cost. We walk through the math during the free assessment.

A word from Luis

East Honolulu is not a market most mainland stairlift companies understand. The terrain here is the first problem. Homes in Hawaii Kai, Portlock, and Aina Haina are built on volcanic topography — lots that step up 20, 30, sometimes 40 feet from street level. The staircase to the front door is often steeper and longer than anything inside the house.

The second problem is the climate. Standard 304-stainless hardware pits within four years on windward Oahu. We don't ship that grade to Hawaii. Every East Honolulu install gets 316-grade fasteners, sealed motor housings, and a 6-month corrosion check built into the service plan — not as an extra, as a standard.

— Luis Ramírez, East Honolulu
