Our 1974 split-level in West Dublin had the landing turn every other company said needed two separate lifts. What's a stairlift going to run in Dublin?

Why do so many Dublin homes need curved rail instead of straight?
A lot of it traces back to when the house was built. The newer tracts — Wallis Ranch's 816 units are a good example — were designed with open floor plans and staircases that turn partway up, which is an architectural choice, not an accessibility one. Straight rail is the cheaper option when your stairs run in one line; a landing or turn pushes the job into custom curved territory, which costs more because it's built to match your exact stairs.
How disruptive is installation in a newer Dublin home?
Not very. The rail attaches to your stair treads, not the drywall, so we're not opening up walls in a house you might have just closed on in the last few years. Straight-run jobs are usually a single day. Curved rail — which, again, comes up a lot in the Tassajara Hills and Wallis Ranch layouts — takes longer because it's custom-fabricated, but it's still a bolt-down job, not a renovation.
Does Dublin's newer housing stock create any install challenges?
Sometimes, yes. Homes built in the last decade or so often have engineered hardwood or LVP over the stair treads rather than carpet, and we account for that when we mount the rail brackets. With 65.1% homeownership citywide, most of our jobs are for owners who plan to be in the house a long time, so we install with that in mind rather than treating it as a temporary fix.
Does Medi-Cal cover a stairlift for a Dublin resident?
It can. The Medi-Cal Home and Community-Based Alternatives (HCBA) Waiver lists home modifications as a covered benefit — grab bars, bathroom access work — with the exact scope set case-by-case in your individualized service plan. Enrollment runs through a local HCBA Waiver Agency via the state Department of Health Care Services. Separately, if you're on a Medi-Cal managed care plan through Alameda County, the CalAIM Community Supports Environmental Accessibility Adaptations benefit covers home modifications up to a $7,500 lifetime maximum — call your plan directly to start that process.
Are there Alameda County programs that help beyond Medi-Cal?

What's available for veterans in Dublin?
The VA's Specially Adapted Housing grant goes up to $126,526 for FY2026, and the Special Housing Adaptation grant up to $25,350 — a stairlift can be included when it's part of an approved home-adaptation plan.
