Stairlift Service Across Wayne County

Wayne County, MI

From Palmer Woods tudors with original oak banisters to Rosedale Park 1920s brick bungalows with the classic six-step basement drop, our crew has mapped the Detroit staircase. We know that Boston-Edison and Indian Village homeowners will fight us over a single paint scratch on a 1918 newel post — so we bring color samples to the first visit and bolt into the treads, never the millwork. Corktown and Mexicantown workers' cottages are the tight runs — 32-inch stair widths where a slim-profile rail is the only thing that fits. In Midtown and downtown Cass Corridor lofts, the conversation shifts to condo-board packets and Michigan Condominium Act accommodation letters before a single tool comes out of the truck.

Rosedale Park 1927 bungalow — straight rail on original oak treads

Rosedale Park, MI Installed March 2026

A 1927 brick bungalow on Stahelin Avenue with the classic Rosedale Park basement drop — six steep steps down to the original workshop on original oak treads. The stair width was 32 inches, headroom at the bottom a tight 6'4". We fitted the slim-profile rail against the wall side, mounted a folding seat and folding footrest so the beige chair tucks flat when parked at the bottom of the dark hardwood stairs, and bolted directly into the oak treads without any wall contact. Mr. Jefferson was back in his workshop the same afternoon.

Palmer Woods 1923 tudor — curved rail past original oak banister with zero contact

Palmer Woods, MI Installed February 2026

A 1923 tudor on Balmoral Drive with an original quarter-sawn oak banister Mrs. Kowalski's late husband had refinished by hand in 1987. Her instruction on the first call was: 'Do not touch the banister.' We digitally scanned the full staircase — a 90-degree turn at the upper landing — and fabricated a curved rail that threads past the original newel post with two inches of clearance. The brown-upholstered seat parks at the upper floor landing beside the half-wall balustrade, with a chandelier above and framed art on the wall. Zero contact with the banister.

Corktown 1890s workers' cottage — compact rail on stone treads in a tight entry

Corktown, MI Installed January 2026

An 1890s two-story workers' cottage on Michigan Avenue with stone-tile treads and a wooden sideboard right next to the bottom landing — the kind of compact, traditional entryway that defines old Corktown. The stair width was 32 inches, too tight for standard rail profiles. We fitted the slimmest compact-profile rail in our catalog, chose brown upholstery to match the warm wood tones of the sideboard and potted plant beside it, and finished in three hours. Mr. O'Brien refused to leave the house his grandfather bought in 1919, and now he doesn't have to.

Outdoor

Grandmont — outdoor stairlift on a stone-paved raised front porch

Grandmont, MI Installed December 2025

A 1940s brick bungalow in Grandmont with a raised front porch and rough natural stone paving at the entry — five steps up from the sidewalk to the front door. Mr. Williams was recovering from bilateral knee replacement at Detroit Medical Center and the front steps were impassable. We installed a weather-sealed cream seat on the stone-paved porch steps with cold-pack battery rated to -30°F and an IP55 sealed motor for Detroit winters. The rail anchors into the stone treads, and the seat folds flat to keep the porch entry clear for the rest of the family.

Bagley — straight rail on carpeted stairs with swivel-exit at landing

Bagley, MI Installed November 2025

A 1936 brick bungalow on Biltmore Street with carpeted stairs and a tiled floor at the bottom landing. Mrs. Pearson, 81, had stopped using the second floor after a fall. We drilled through the carpet pile into the plywood subfloor, set the rail brackets, and had the brown-upholstered chair running in three hours. The seat color matches the brown carpet tones, and the wall-mounted light switches remain fully accessible with the rail in place. The swivel-exit at the top rotates 90 degrees so she steps onto flat hallway floor.

Platform Lift

Indian Village — indoor wheelchair platform lift for a three-floor colonial

Indian Village, MI Installed October 2025

A 1912 colonial on Burns Avenue where Dr. Abernathy uses a wheelchair full-time and cannot transfer to a seated stairlift. We installed an inclined wheelchair platform lift on the indoor stairway — a flat black anti-slip platform with yellow high-visibility safety edges and white handrails on both sides. The DC motor housing sits against the orange-toned hallway wall near the window. She rolls on at the bottom and rolls off at the top without ever leaving her chair. Her Tuesday book club didn't notice the lift for three meetings.

Common Questions

Everything Detroit Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift actually cost in Detroit right now?

Straight rails in standard Detroit brick bungalows — Rosedale Park, Bagley, Grandmont, East English Village — run $2,800 to $5,500 installed. Curved rails for Palmer Woods tudors, Boston-Edison colonials, and Indian Village landings run $9,000 to $15,000 because the rail is manufactured to your exact staircase geometry. Outdoor and cold-rated models for raised front stoops run $4,000 to $7,500. Every quote is written, honored for 30 days, and includes the rail, seat, cold-pack battery backup, installation, and the first service visit.

Do you charge Detroit addresses more than suburban Wayne County?

No. A straight rail in a Rosedale Park bungalow costs the same as one in Dearborn or Livonia. What occasionally adds a line item inside Detroit city limits is the BSEED electrical permit when we pull a new dedicated circuit — common in pre-1960 bungalows still running 60-amp service. The permit fee is pass-through at cost, usually $75 to $150, and we file it under our Michigan-licensed electrical contractor. It appears on the quote before you sign.

Is there a surcharge for Spanish-language service in Mexicantown?

No. Luis is bilingual and based in Wayne County — every assessment in Mexicantown, Southwest Detroit, and the West Vernor corridor can be conducted in Spanish at your request. Printed quotes, consent forms, and the operating manual are all available in Spanish at zero charge. For Arabic-speaking households in Hamtramck or near the Dearborn border, we coordinate a translator through the Detroit Area Agency on Aging at no cost to you.

Are there hidden fees for Indian Village or Boston-Edison historic homes?

No. Stairlifts are interior equipment, so the Detroit Historic District Commission does not require review for the rail itself — we confirmed this with BSEED. The only Historic District paperwork we ever file is for exterior platform lifts that sit on a porch or stoop in a designated district, and we file that HDC application at no charge. No engineer letters, no hidden architectural review fees.

A word from Luis

Detroit homes are almost all brick, almost all pre-1950, and almost all built around a basement staircase that drops six steep steps to a workshop, a laundry, or a furnace that hasn't been touched since the Coleman Young years. That basement run is the call I take most often — followed closely by 'please don't touch the oak banister' from Palmer Woods and Boston-Edison.

I'm at your house within 24 hours, I measure once, and I hand you a price that's honored for 30 days. Hablo español para las familias de Mexicantown.
