Straight Stairlift

Most common · From $2,800

Built for Dearborn's steep, narrow brick bungalow staircases — from Ford Homes colonials to Highland-Fort Dearborn Manor. Over 70% of the stairlifts we install in Dearborn are straight rails. The city's 1920s-1950s brick bungalows have steep, narrow staircases that were designed to save floor space, not for accessibility. A slim-profile rail bolts into the stair treads (never into the wall), the seat and footrest fold flat, and the sealed motor housing handles Michigan's summer humidity without corroding. Most Dearborn bungalow installs finish in under four hours.

Stairlift Service Across Wayne County

Wayne County, MI

From the Ford Homes Historic District — the 250 colonials Henry Ford built between Mason and Monroe streets, where Historic District Commission review applies to any exterior-visible modification — to the Tudor Revivals and Craftsman cottages of Dearborn Hills, the 1940s brick bungalows of Springwells (Dearborn's oldest settled neighborhood, dating to 1826), and the Arsenal and Riverbend neighborhoods with their 360+ documented historic structures, our team has measured stairs in every pocket of the city. We know which Highland-Fort Dearborn Manor blocks have the Colonial Revival homes with the narrow enclosed staircases that need a slim-profile rail, and which Georgetown Commons cottages from the 1930s have the basement access that's steeper than the main run.

1920 Ford Homes colonial — straight rail on original oak treads

Ford Homes Historic District, MI Installed March 2026

A 1920 colonial in the Ford Homes Historic District — one of the 250 houses Henry Ford's Dearborn Realty and Construction Company built between Mason and Monroe streets. Mrs. Kowalski has lived here since 1978 and the original oak treads still have their factory finish in places. The staircase is 14 treads, steep by modern code, with a narrow 32-inch width that required a slim-profile rail. We bolted the track directly into the oak treads using countersunk fasteners that sit flush with the wood grain. The chair folds flat against the wall at the top landing, leaving 26 inches of clear walking width for her grandson who visits every Sunday. The Ford Homes Historic District Commission had no jurisdiction over the interior install, but Mrs. Kowalski wanted confirmation in writing — we got it from Preservation Dearborn before we drilled the first hole.

Dearborn Hills Tudor — curved rail past the upper landing turn

Dearborn Hills, MI Installed February 2026

A 1935 Tudor Revival in Dearborn Hills with a staircase that turns 90 degrees at the upper landing before reaching the bedroom hallway. Mr. Nowak had a knee replacement at Beaumont Dearborn in January and needed the lift working before he came home from rehab. We laser-scanned the staircase the day after his daughter called, sent the measurements to fabrication that evening, and had the curved rail manufactured in 12 days. Install was a single day — the rail threads past the original plaster archway at the landing without touching it, and the swivel-exit seat lets him step off directly onto the hallway floor instead of pivoting on the top tread. His daughter said it was the fastest medical equipment turnaround she'd dealt with in six months of coordinating his recovery.

1940s Springwells stone cottage — straight rail beside the fieldstone wall

Springwells, MI Installed January 2026

A 1942 stone-clad cottage in the Springwells neighborhood — Dearborn's oldest settled area, dating to 1826. The interior stairs are 13 treads with a fieldstone wainscot wall on one side and an original iron rail on the other. Mr. Hassan wanted the lift on the wainscot side to keep the iron rail free for his wife, who still uses the stairs on foot. We mounted the track into the treads with masonry-rated anchors and ran the rail tight against the stone wall. The sealed motor housing was standard for the Michigan humidity spec — his basement runs a dehumidifier year-round but the stairwell itself sits outside the dehumidified zone. The lift has run through a full Michigan winter without a service call.

Arsenal neighborhood raised porch — weather-sealed outdoor lift on stone paving

Arsenal, MI Installed December 2025

A 1930s brick bungalow in the Arsenal neighborhood with a raised front porch, seven exterior stone steps, and a Michigan winter that makes those steps a liability from November through March. Mrs. Abboud is 79 and uses a walker — the front steps had become impassable after the first ice. We mounted a weather-sealed outdoor rail on the stone paving, anchored through the treads into the poured concrete foundation underneath. The motor housing is IP55 rated and the battery is cold-pack rated to -30°F — standard for any outdoor Michigan install. The rail has a heated cover strip that prevents ice buildup on the track surface. She used it the morning after a December ice storm without waiting for her son to salt the steps.

Highland-Fort Dearborn Manor — straight rail on carpeted stairs

Highland-Fort Dearborn Manor, MI Installed November 2025

A Colonial Revival in Highland-Fort Dearborn Manor with wall-to-wall carpeted stairs that the family installed in the 1990s over the original hardwood. Mrs. Petrosky's concern was whether the rail would damage the carpet or require removal. It doesn't — we bolt through the carpet into the treads beneath, and the mounting brackets are small enough that if the lift is ever removed, the carpet holes are invisible under a furniture pad. The staircase is a standard straight run with 13 treads and a generous 36-inch width, so the folded chair leaves a full 28 inches of walking space. Her husband still walks the stairs and passes the parked chair without turning sideways. Install took three hours including the safety walkthrough.

Platform Lift

Riverbend brick bungalow — indoor wheelchair platform lift with yellow safety edges

Riverbend, MI Installed October 2025

A 1938 brick bungalow in the Riverbend neighborhood where Mr. Nazari returned from a stroke rehab at Beaumont Dearborn in a powered wheelchair. The family needed a platform lift, not a seated stairlift — his chair weighs 85 lbs and he can't transfer safely. We installed an indoor inclined wheelchair platform lift at the main staircase, with a flat black anti-slip surface and yellow high-visibility safety edges on the platform perimeter per ADA guidance. The lift carries him and the chair from the main floor to the upper bedroom level in a single ride. The yellow edges are visible from across the room so family members know when the platform is in motion. His wife operates it from the upper landing using a wired wall-mounted control.

Common Questions

Everything Dearborn Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift cost in a typical Dearborn home?

Straight rails in standard Dearborn homes — the brick bungalows along Michigan Avenue, the Ford Homes colonials, the Dearborn Hills Tudors — run $2,800 to $5,500 installed. Curved rails for homes with mid-landing turns run $9,000 to $15,000 because the rail is manufactured to your exact staircase geometry. Outdoor models for raised front porches run $4,000 to $7,500. Every quote is written, honored for 30 days, and includes installation, rail, seat, battery backup, and the first service visit.

Are prices different in Dearborn than other Wayne County cities?

Equipment prices are identical across Michigan — we don't inflate quotes for Dearborn Hills or deflate them for Inkster. What can vary slightly is install labor for unusual conditions: Historic District Commission paperwork windows in the Ford Homes district, compensating rail mounts for settled treads in pre-1930 homes, or pulling a dedicated circuit in houses still running original 60-amp service. We tell you the line items upfront.

Is there a cheaper option for basement stairs?

Basement stairs in Dearborn's older bungalows are usually poured concrete with a steep pitch and no existing railing — the most common secondary install we do in Wayne County. A straight rail on basement stairs typically runs $2,800 to $4,200 because the run is shorter but the mount surface is harder. We bolt into the concrete treads with masonry anchors rated for the load. If the concrete has cracked or shifted (common in homes over 70 years old), we assess during the free visit and tell you exactly what's needed.

Do you charge extra for bilingual service?

No. Every Dearborn assessment can be conducted in Spanish at your request. Luis is bilingual and has walked dozens of families through every line of the paperwork in their preferred language. Every printed quote, consent form, and operating manual is also available in Spanish. Zero surcharge.

A word from Luis

Most Dearborn families call me after someone slips on the narrow treads in a 1940s brick bungalow off Michigan Avenue — or after a parent who's lived in the same Ford Homes colonial for 40 years finally admits the stairs aren't safe anymore. The houses Henry Ford's workers built are solid, but steep staircases in tight footprints were standard in the 1920s.

My job is simple: drive to your house, measure once, and give you a price that's honored for 30 days. No pressure. No upsells. En español si lo prefiere.
