Stairlift Service Across Berks County

Berks County, PA

From the 1950s ranch conversions along Reading Road where second-story additions created steep, narrow staircases to the split-levels and bi-levels in Montrose with their half-flight interior stairs, we have measured every staircase style in Cumru Township. The Glenside and Reiffton neighborhoods have mid-century colonials with standard 36-inch-wide stairs that install in three hours. Green Hills has newer construction with wider treads and open floor plans. We also serve Shillington, Kenhorst, Wyomissing, Mohnton, and West Reading without travel fees.

Steep ranch addition staircase on Reading Road — compact rail preserving original banister

Reading Road Corridor, PA Installed March 2026

A 1960s ranch along Reading Road with a second-story addition from the mid-1980s. The staircase was squeezed into a former hallway closet — only 28 inches wide with a steep 42-degree pitch. Two other installers declined the job. We brought the compact-profile rail with the adjustable-angle mount, bolted it into the hardwood treads, and confirmed clearance against the drywall. The beige seat folds to 11 inches, leaving enough room for the grandchildren to pass on the stairs. Mrs. Medina rides it six to eight times daily.

Curved rail through a Montrose split-level landing — continuous track across half-flight

Montrose, PA Installed February 2026

A Montrose split-level with a half-flight from the living room to a mid-level landing, then a second half-flight up to the bedrooms. The 90-degree turn at the landing had a tight clearance against the newel post. We laser-scanned the full run, fabricated a continuous curved rail that threads past the newel by two inches, and installed it in a single day. The brown seat matches the existing oak trim. Mr. Torres rides it every morning and parks the seat flush at the upper hallway.

Carpeted colonial stairs in Reiffton — swivel seat at the upper landing

Reiffton, PA Installed January 2026

A mid-century colonial in Reiffton with fourteen carpeted steps and a standard 36-inch-wide staircase. Mrs. Werner had been sleeping on the living room couch for two months because she was afraid of the stairs after a fall. We bolted the rail through the carpet into the wooden treads beneath — no carpet removal, no damage to the pile. The powered swivel at the top turns the seat so she steps off onto the hallway floor instead of balancing on the top tread. She slept in her own bed the night of the install.

Outdoor

Outdoor rail on concrete front steps in Glenside — freeze-proof for PA winters

Glenside, PA Installed December 2025

A raised front entry in Glenside with seven concrete steps that ice over every winter. Mr. Reyes is a 91-year-old Korean War veteran who lives alone. The cream-colored weather-resistant seat sits at the base of the entry, ready when he returns from errands or VA appointments at the Reading clinic. The freeze-proof battery rode through two ice storms in January and February 2026 without a hiccup. The HISA grant through the Lebanon VA covered $6,800 of the cost. Every component is galvanized and rated for Pennsylvania's 60-plus annual freeze-thaw cycles.

Green Hills colonial with narrow hallway entry — slim-profile rail under archway

Green Hills, PA Installed November 2025

A newer colonial in Green Hills with wide treads but a decorative archway at the base of the stairs that limited vertical clearance. We fitted the slim-profile rail and the low-profile folding seat so the entire unit tucks under the arch when parked. The rail bolts into the treads, never into the arch or the adjacent wall. Mrs. Hoffman uses it four to five times a day and the grandchildren walk past on the stairs without noticing it.

Platform Lift

Indoor wheelchair platform lift for a Shillington veteran — HISA and CHC funded

Shillington, PA Installed October 2025

A two-story brick row in Shillington near the borough park. Mr. Cruz is a disabled veteran who uses a power wheelchair full-time. A seated stairlift was not an option — he needed to ride his chair between floors. We installed an inclined wheelchair platform lift along the indoor stairway: a flat black anti-slip platform with yellow high-visibility safety edges on all thresholds, white handrails, and a keyed lockout so visiting grandchildren cannot activate it unsupervised. The HISA grant covered the full $6,800 service-connected maximum, and the PA Community HealthChoices waiver through UPMC for You covered the remaining balance. He rolls onto the platform, presses one button, and rides to the upper floor without leaving his chair.

Common Questions

Everything Cumru Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift cost in Cumru Township right now?

Straight rails in standard Cumru homes — the ranches with second-story additions along Reading Road, the colonials in Reiffton, the two-stories in Green Hills — run $2,800 to $5,500 installed. Curved rails for the tight turns where a second-story addition meets the original ranch roofline run $9,000 to $15,000 because the rail is manufactured to your exact geometry. Outdoor models with freeze-proof hardware run $4,000 to $7,500. Every quote is written, honored for 30 days, and includes installation, rail, seat, battery backup, and the first service visit.

Is pricing different here than in Reading or Wyomissing?

Equipment prices are identical across Berks County. We do not inflate quotes based on zip code or neighborhood. What varies slightly is install labor for unusual conditions: retrofitting a rail into a 1980s second-story addition where the framing angles differ from the original slab, compensating for settlement in a 1920s Shillington row, or pulling a dedicated 120V circuit in an older ranch with no outlet near the stairs. Every variable appears as a line item on the written quote.

Do the steep stairs in older ranch additions cost more?

The adjustable-angle mount is part of our standard kit on every Berks County assessment. We need it roughly one in four installs because many ranch-to-two-story additions from the 1970s through 1990s have staircases pitched steeper than modern code. No extra charge. If the pitch exceeds the mount range — extremely rare — we tell you at the assessment and suggest alternatives.

Do you offer financing for Cumru homeowners?

Three lending partners with 0% APR for qualified buyers and low fixed-rate plans from $77 per month. Application is a soft credit pull, takes 4 minutes, and approval is usually instant. Many Berks County families combine financing with the PA CHC waiver, the PATF assistive technology loan, or a partial VA grant. We walk you through the math during the free assessment.

A word from Luis

Cumru Township sits between Reading and Wyomissing, and the housing stock runs from 1950s ranches along Reading Road that later got second-story additions to the newer colonials around Green Hills. When someone calls, it is almost always after a fall or after a spouse stopped going upstairs entirely.

I measure your stairs the same day you call, hand you a written quote honored for 30 days, and leave. No pressure, no callbacks. If you are a veteran, the Lebanon VA Medical Center handles HISA grants for Berks County — I have filed those forms dozens of times and know the coordinator by name.
