Crestview didn't really become a city until the military made it one — the population was around 500 in 1920 and hit 27,134 by the 2020 census, most of that growth landing after the Army's 7th Special Forces Group relocated to nearby Eglin in the 2005 BRAC round. A lot of the housing stock here is newer construction from the subdivision boom that followed — two-story floor plans built for young families, not for aging in place. When those same homeowners are still in the house twenty years later, or a parent moves in with them, the staircase that was no big deal at 35 gets a lot harder to manage at 70. That's usually the call we get.

What makes Crestview different
Why a stairlift installed in Crestview, FL is planned around the way this specific community lives, not stamped out from a one-size-fits-all template.
Crestview's housing stock skews newer, reflecting rapid growth from about 500 residents in 1920 to 27,134 in 2020, with a surge of new subdivisions after the Army's 7th Special Forces Group relocated to nearby Eglin in the 2005 BRAC round.

Stairlift Service Across Okaloosa County
Our crew has measured staircases from the 1990s ranches in Antioch Estates off PJ Adams Parkway to the country-club brick homes in Foxwood Estates on Antioch Road, where the original 1960s subdivision still has narrow 30-inch staircases. Newer construction in Silver Oaks off Old Bethel Road runs wider oak treads on 0.41-acre wooded lots. South of US-90, the Downtown Historic District around the 1925 Bush House on Wilson Street keeps its raised-foundation craftsman bungalows. Garden City and the Old Spanish Trail Area near the senior center round out our territory, with rural Crescent Heights ranches west of town adding steep front-porch outdoor lifts to the mix.

What a stairlift project looks like for families in Crestview and nearby Okaloosa County. Drag to scroll, or use the arrows and dots below.
We live in a raised ranch near Old Bethel Road that's been in the family since 1988. The stairs are steep and the handrail was loose. All American measured on Tuesday, installed Thursday, and my father was riding it that evening. The seat folds flat and the grandkids walk right past it on their way upstairs.
I served 26 years in the Air Force at Eglin and my back finally gave out. The Eglin AFB VA Clinic on Veterans Way wrote the HISA prescription and All American prefilled every form. The grant covered $6,800 and I was riding the lift four weeks after my first call. No runaround, no paperwork headaches.
Our two-story brick home in Foxwood Estates backs up to the country club, with an L-shaped turn at the upper landing. Two companies wanted to install two separate lifts. All American scanned the whole run and fabricated one curved rail. My mother rides from the foyer to her bedroom upstairs without stopping. Four months in, zero issues.
My father speaks mostly Spanish and I was worried about communication. Luis came out, conducted the entire visit in Spanish, and walked Papa through every button twice. The Spanish manual is taped next to the controls. Papa calls it his elevator and uses it six times a day.
Mom needed the lift before Christmas and I live in Pensacola. I called Monday, they measured Tuesday morning, and installed Thursday. The outdoor lift handles the eight flagstone porch steps she hadn't climbed in two months. She was on her own porch drinking coffee Friday morning for the first time since October.
I use a power wheelchair full-time and a regular stairlift wasn't going to work in our Garden City home. All American installed a platform lift along the indoor stairway with yellow safety edges so I can see exactly where to roll on. The HISA grant and SMMC-LTC Medicaid together covered the full cost. I ride between floors without leaving my chair.

Everything Crestview Homeowners Actually Ask
Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding, no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.
What's a stairlift going to cost in Crestview?
The staircase decides the price, not the address. Most homes built during Crestview's post-2005 subdivision surge — after the Army's 7th Special Forces Group set up near Eglin — have a straight, single-flight run, which is the cheapest configuration to fit. A handful of older properties closer to downtown have a turn or a landing, which pushes you into curved-rail pricing. We quote after walking the actual stairs, not off a phone description.
Does Crestview being a newer town keep prices down on average?
It tends to, yes. So much of the housing here dates to the subdivision boom that followed the 2005 BRAC relocation that straight-rail installs outnumber curved ones by a wide margin compared to older Florida towns with additions and odd-angle stairwells. That's a pattern, not a guarantee — we've still run into curved jobs in the older sections near downtown.
Crestview sits higher up than most of the Panhandle — does that change what I'll pay?
Only if you need equipment for an outdoor entry. At 236 feet, Crestview is unusually high ground for Florida, and the grade from street or driveway up to the front porch is more noticeable on a lot of lots here than in flatter coastal towns. An exterior stairlift for that kind of approach costs more than an indoor unit because it has to be weatherproofed.
How long does an install actually take once I book?
A straight-rail job — the more common setup in Crestview's newer subdivisions — usually finishes in a few hours, same day. Curved rail, more likely in the older in-town housing, has to be custom-measured and manufactured to that specific stairway first, so there's a lead time between the site visit and install day.
Will the install tear up my stairs or walls?
No — the rail bolts to the treads, not the wall, so drywall and trim stay untouched. That matters less structurally in Crestview than in some older Florida towns since most of the housing here postdates the 2005 subdivision boom, but the mounting method is the same either way.
Can you put a stairlift on an outdoor staircase given Crestview's terrain?
Yes. Crestview's elevation between the Yellow River and the Shoal River means some properties have a real step-up from the driveway to the front door rather than a flat walk-in. We spec outdoor units for weatherproofing and grade when that's the situation.
Does Florida Medicaid cover a stairlift for someone in Crestview?
Possibly, through Statewide Medicaid Managed Care Long-Term Care (SMMC LTC) under Environmental/Home Accessibility Adaptations — that category does cover stairlifts, but the amount isn't a fixed statewide number, it's set plan-by-plan through your managed care organization. Call 1-800-963-5337 and ask your MCO case manager what your specific plan of care allows. If cash flow is the bigger issue, the Florida Homestead plus Senior Additional Homestead Exemption won't hand you money for the lift directly, but it can free up several thousand dollars a year in reduced property tax that some homeowners put toward one.
Is there a local Okaloosa County office that can help me sort this out?
Start with the Northwest Florida Area Agency on Aging, the ADRC for this region (PSA 1), at (850) 494-7101 — they're the intake point for aging and disability services covering Crestview and the rest of Okaloosa County. The county's own Veterans/Aging office in Shalimar, at 1250 N. Eglin Pkwy, can also help with transport to VA or aging-related appointments if getting there is part of the problem.
With Eglin and the 7th Special Forces Group so close, does the VA pay for a stairlift?
Not through the HISA grant — the VA's own HISA fact sheet specifically excludes porch lifts and stair glides, even though the grant covers other structural work up to $6,800 for a service-connected disability or $2,000 non-service-connected. A stairlift can instead be authorized through VA Prosthetics with a doctor's prescription, and that route has no fixed dollar cap. If a veteran doesn't qualify that way, the FAAST New Horizon Loan Program is a low-interest option, roughly $3,000 to $30,000, worth asking about as a backup.

Crestview sits up on high ground between the Yellow River and the Shoal River — 236 feet, one of the higher points in the state — so unlike a lot of the flatter Panhandle towns I work in, you don't just see slab-on-grade houses with one step at the door. There's real elevation change from the driveway up to the porch on plenty of lots here, on top of whatever staircase is inside. I've quoted more exterior-entry jobs out here than in the coastal parts of Okaloosa County for exactly that reason, and it changes what equipment makes sense.
