We live in a raised ranch near Old Bethel Road that's been in the family since 1988. The stairs are steep and the handrail was loose. All American scanned the whole run and fabricated one curved rail. My mother rides from the foyer to her bedroom upstairs without stopping. Four months in, zero issues.
My father speaks mostly Spanish and I was worried about communication. Luis came out, conducted the entire visit in Spanish, and walked Papa through every button twice. The Spanish manual is taped next to the controls. Papa calls it his elevator and uses it six times a day.
Mom needed the lift before Christmas and I live in Pensacola. I called Monday, they measured Tuesday morning, and installed Thursday. What's a stairlift going to cost in Crestview?

Does Crestview being a newer town keep prices down on average?
It tends to, yes. So much of the housing here dates to the subdivision boom that followed the 2005 BRAC relocation that straight-rail installs outnumber curved ones by a wide margin compared to older Florida towns with additions and odd-angle stairwells. That's a pattern, not a guarantee — we've still run into curved jobs in the older sections near downtown.
Crestview sits higher up than most of the Panhandle — does that change what I'll pay?
Only if you need equipment for an outdoor entry. At 236 feet, Crestview is unusually high ground for Florida, and the grade from street or driveway up to the front porch is more noticeable on a lot of lots here than in flatter coastal towns. An exterior stairlift for that kind of approach costs more than an indoor unit because it has to be weatherproofed.
How long does an install actually take once I book?
A straight-rail job — the more common setup in Crestview's newer subdivisions — usually finishes in a few hours, same day. Curved rail, more likely in the older in-town housing, has to be custom-measured and manufactured to that specific stairway first, so there's a lead time between the site visit and install day.
Will the install tear up my stairs or walls?
No — the rail bolts to the treads, not the wall, so drywall and trim stay untouched. That matters less structurally in Crestview than in some older Florida towns since most of the housing here postdates the 2005 subdivision boom, but the mounting method is the same either way.
Can you put a stairlift on an outdoor staircase given Crestview's terrain?
Yes. Crestview's elevation between the Yellow River and the Shoal River means some properties have a real step-up from the driveway to the front door rather than a flat walk-in. We spec outdoor units for weatherproofing and grade when that's the situation.
Does Florida Medicaid cover a stairlift for someone in Crestview?
Possibly, through Statewide Medicaid Managed Care Long-Term Care (SMMC LTC) under Environmental/Home Accessibility Adaptations — that category does cover stairlifts, but the amount isn't a fixed statewide number, it's set plan-by-plan through your managed care organization. Start with the Northwest Florida Area Agency on Aging, the ADRC for this region (PSA 1), at (850) 494-7101 — they're the intake point for aging and disability services covering Crestview and the rest of Okaloosa County. The county's own Veterans/Aging office in Shalimar, at 1250 N. Eglin Pkwy, can also help with transport to VA or aging-related appointments if getting there is part of the problem.
With Eglin and the 7th Special Forces Group so close, does the VA pay for a stairlift?
Not through the HISA grant — the VA's own HISA fact sheet specifically excludes porch lifts and stair glides, even though the grant covers other structural work up to $6,800 for a service-connected disability or $2,000 non-service-connected. A stairlift can instead be authorized through VA Prosthetics with a doctor's prescription, and that route has no fixed dollar cap. If a veteran doesn't qualify that way, the FAAST New Horizon Loan Program is a low-interest option, roughly $3,000 to $30,000, worth asking about as a backup.
