Stairlift Service Across St. Mary's County

St. Mary's County, MD

From the established colonials and split-levels along Three Notch Road to the 1990s-era townhomes and single-family homes in Wildewood, our team has measured staircases across every pocket of this St. Mary's County community. Lexington Park homes near the base tend toward compact two-story layouts where straight rails handle most jobs. The older colonials north toward Mechanicsville have wider treads but steeper pitches. Waterfront and near-waterfront properties along the Patuxent side often have raised entries and exterior steps exposed to Chesapeake humidity, making outdoor-rated lifts a practical choice for year-round access.

Straight

1982 colonial off Three Notch Road — straight rail on original hardwood treads

Three Notch Road, MD Installed March 2026

A two-story colonial built in 1982 along Route 235 with 14 original hardwood treads and a walnut banister. Mrs. Thompson had been sleeping in a recliner on the first floor since a knee replacement at MedStar St. Mary's because the stairs were off-limits per her surgeon. We drove out, laser-measured the 15-foot straight run, confirmed the hardwood treads could accept the mounting brackets without splitting, and installed the same week. The rail parks flush against the wall at the bottom. She slept in her own bed that night for the first time in six weeks.

1970s Lexington Park split-level — curved rail through a 90-degree landing turn

Lexington Park, MD Installed February 2026

A 1970s split-level near the base with six steps from the entry to the living area, a 90-degree landing, then nine more steps to the bedrooms. Commander Corrigan retired from NAS Patuxent River in 2012 and has lived in this house since 1998. We laser-scanned the full run on the first visit, fabricated a single curved rail that carries him from the entry to the upper hallway without stopping, and installed a swivel-exit seat at the top. His VA primary care provider at the Charlotte Hall clinic wrote the HISA prescription, and the grant covered $6,800 of the cost.

Wildewood subdivision two-story — straight rail on carpeted treads with swivel exit

Wildewood, MD Installed January 2026

A 1990s two-story in the Wildewood subdivision with 14 carpeted treads and a tight newel post at the bottom. The rail bolts through the carpet into the treads — never into the wall — and the seat swivels 90 degrees at the top so Mrs. Brennan steps off onto the landing instead of balancing on the top step. She had been limiting herself to the first floor since a fall two months prior. The swivel exit eliminated the single most dangerous moment of every trip upstairs.

Outdoor

Raised waterfront-side entry — outdoor rail on treated-wood steps facing the Patuxent

Patuxent Overlook, MD Installed December 2025

A raised ranch near the Patuxent River with seven treated-wood exterior steps fully exposed to Chesapeake humidity and storm-season weather. The family needed an outdoor-rated unit that could handle salt air, summer downpours, and occasional nor'easters. We anchored the rail with stainless-steel lag bolts, spec'd marine-grade corrosion protection and sealed IP54 control panels, and added a lockable weather cover. The battery backup runs through the power outages that hit St. Mary's County during storm season.

Narrow townhome staircase near the base — slim-profile rail with full walking clearance

Lexington Park, MD Installed November 2025

A compact townhome near NAS Pax River with a narrow staircase between the kitchen wall and a load-bearing partition. Every inch of clearance mattered — the family still needed to carry groceries and laundry up and down. We fitted the slimmest rail in our catalog, added a folding footrest so the chair tucks completely against the wall when parked, and confirmed 27 inches of clear walking width remained. The active-duty tenant's landlord approved the install within 48 hours of our paperwork submission.

Platform Lift

Wheelchair platform lift at a raised colonial entry — full Chesapeake weatherproofing

California, MD Installed October 2025

The homeowner uses a power wheelchair and the raised front entry of their colonial had five brick steps with no space for a ramp on the front walk. We installed a weather-sealed inclined platform lift with a flat black platform, yellow high-visibility safety edges, and a fold-up deck when not in use. A keyed call station at the lower landing provides security. Every component got the Chesapeake weather package — marine-grade hardware, sealed motor housing, and UV-resistant platform surface rated for Southern Maryland's humidity and storm cycles.

Common Questions

Everything California Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift cost in California, MD right now?

Straight rails in standard St. Mary's County homes — the colonials along Three Notch Road, the two-stories in Wildewood, the townhomes near the base — run $2,800 to $5,500 installed. Curved rails for split-levels and L-shaped staircases in older California and Lexington Park homes run $9,000 to $15,000 because the rail is manufactured to your exact staircase geometry. Outdoor models for raised entries and waterfront-side porches run $4,000 to $7,500. Every quote is written, honored for 30 days, and includes installation, rail, seat, battery backup, and the first service visit.

Are Southern Maryland prices different from the DC metro or Baltimore?

Equipment prices are the same across Maryland — we do not discount or inflate based on metro size. What varies slightly is install labor for unusual conditions: steep-pitch treads in older Mechanicsville colonials, split-level landing fabrication in California, and the marine-grade corrosion package we spec as standard on any outdoor install near the Patuxent. Those are baseline specs for St. Mary's County, not upcharges. We tell you the line items upfront on the written quote.

Is a stairlift cheaper than moving to a single-story home?

Moving costs in St. Mary's County — real estate commission, closing costs, packing, deposits — typically run $18,000 to $35,000 minimum, and housing inventory near the base is competitive. A straight stairlift installs in under four hours for $2,800 to $5,500 and lets you stay in the home you have owned for decades, in the neighborhood you know, near MedStar St. Mary's and the neighbors you rely on. For most California families, the stairlift costs less than the real estate commission alone.

Can military families at NAS Pax River get a stairlift in base housing?

Privatized base housing managed by Lincoln Military Housing typically requires written approval from the housing office — we handle that paperwork as part of the install at no charge. Off-base rentals in California and Lexington Park just need the landlord's written OK. The rail bolts into the stair treads and removes cleanly at PCS time with only a few small holes to fill. We have installed and removed lifts for rotating Navy families across Southern Maryland for years.
