Common Questions

Everything Boulder Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift cost in Boulder right now?

Straight rails in standard Boulder homes run $2,800 to $5,500 installed. Curved rails for turns or landings run $9,000 to $15,000 due to custom fabrication. Outdoor lifts run $4,000 to $7,500. Every quote includes lithium battery, installation, rail, seat, battery backup, and first service visit. Written quotes honored for 30 days.

Why do Boulder installs include lithium batteries as standard?

Boulder sits at 5,430 feet altitude. Sealed lead-acid batteries lose 15–30% capacity at this elevation due to reduced oxygen affecting chemical reaction. Lithium batteries are altitude-insensitive, last twice as long in cold weather, and weigh less. Included as baseline for all Front Range installs above 5,000 feet with no upcharge.

Does the Colorado EBD Waiver cover any of this?

Yes. The Elderly, Blind and Disabled (EBD) HCBS Waiver carries a $14,000 lifetime home-modification cap covering most straight installs entirely and offsetting significant curved install costs. Entry point is Boulder County Area Agency on Aging at 303-441-1617 (Single Entry Point). Eligibility requires Colorado residency, age 65+, Medicaid eligibility, and nursing-facility level of care assessment.

Are Mapleton Hill or University Hill addresses more expensive to install?

Equipment pricing is identical regardless of neighborhood. Labor may vary slightly for unusual conditions: threading curved rails past 120-year-old banisters in Mapleton Hill takes more care than straight rails in 1978 ranches. Historic district status in Mapleton Hill doesn’t affect interior installs—no Landmark Alteration Certificate required for work not changing exterior appearance. All costs itemized upfront with no historic home surcharges.

A word from Luis

Most Boulder families reach out after a parent stopped using the second floor altogether—sleeping on the couch in a Mapleton Hill Victorian rather than climbing those steep 1890s stairs, or avoiding the basement laundry in a North Boulder ranch because the return trip up hurts worse than the trip down.

My job is simple: drive to your house within 24 hours, measure once, and give you a price that’s honored for 30 days. No pressure. No upsells. En español si lo prefiere.
