Stairlift Service Across Burleigh County

Burleigh County, ND

From the Cathedral District — where 1900s–1930s two-stories have steep interior stairways with original hardwood treads, and exterior modifications on contributing structures may require a Certificate of Appropriateness — to Highland Acres, the postwar veterans’ cooperative where roughly 400 homes now house the grandchildren and great-grandchildren of the GIs who built them, to the North Hill split-levels from the 1960s where the half-flight-up, half-flight-down layout almost always requires a curved rail. We know which South Bismarck subdivisions have wide stair runs that install in under three hours, which Sleepy Hollow and Tatley Meadows newer homes have open-concept stairways where a folding seat is critical for foot traffic, and which Mandan homes share the same 1960s–1970s split-level pattern as North Hill. The Bismarck VA CBOC at Gateway Mall and the Burleigh County HHS office handle HISA and SPED paperwork directly.

1918 Cathedral District two-story — beige seat on original dark hardwood treads

Cathedral District, ND Installed March 2026

A 1918 two-story in the Cathedral Area Historic District with original dark hardwood treads, a carved oak banister, and towering American elms outside. Mrs. Vogel’s daughter called from Denver after her mother fell on the fourth step during a January cold snap — the oak treads were slippery in wool socks. We measured on Monday, installed on Wednesday. The beige seat rides the warm hardwood stairs and the rail finish was color-matched to the original oak. The banister is untouched.

90° landing turn in a 1964 North Hill split-level

North Hill, ND Installed February 2026

A 1964 split-level in North Hill with five steps down from the entry to the family room, a 90° turn at the mid-landing, then eight more up to the bedrooms. Mr. Schatz is a retired state worker with two artificial knees. We laser-scanned the entire staircase, fabricated a single curved rail that rides the full run in one continuous track, and installed a swivel-exit seat at the upper landing so he steps off onto the hallway carpet. The -40°F battery has run through an entire Bismarck winter without a hiccup.

Highland Acres — straight rail in a 1949 veterans’ cooperative home

Highland Acres, ND Installed January 2026

A 1949 home in Highland Acres — one of the roughly 400 houses built when the neighborhood was platted as a housing cooperative for returning WWII veterans. The original basement stairway has narrow treads and a wooden sideboard built into the stairwell wall that the family refuses to remove. We specified the slim-profile rail on the opposite side so the seat clears the sideboard with room to spare. The compact footrest folds flush when parked. Three hours, no mess.

South Bismarck raised entry — extreme-cold sealed for Missouri River valley winters

South Bismarck, ND Installed December 2025

A raised entry in South Bismarck with six concrete steps up to the front door, fully exposed to Missouri River valley winters. Mr. Bauer is a retired Army veteran who qualified for a HISA grant through the Bismarck VA CBOC at Gateway Mall. Every bracket is hot-dip galvanized, the motor housing is sealed against ND’s extreme freeze-thaw cycling, and the -40°F battery kept it running through the January polar vortex when the windchill hit -50°F.

Sleepy Hollow subdivision — swivel-exit seat on carpeted stairs

Sleepy Hollow, ND Installed November 2025

A two-story in the Sleepy Hollow subdivision with 14 carpeted treads and an open-concept stairway the grandchildren use as a runway. Mrs. Kessler needed a swivel-exit seat at the top because pivoting on the top tread felt dangerous with her new hip, and the seat and footrest had to fold completely flat for foot traffic. The swivel rotates 90° at the upper landing, the seat folds against the wall, and the fold-up footrest leaves a 30-inch clearance on the tread side.

Platform Lift

Mandan split-entry — indoor wheelchair platform for garage-to-main-floor transition

Mandan, ND Installed October 2025

A split-entry home in Mandan with an interior stairway from the attached garage to the main living floor. Mr. Braun uses a power wheelchair after a farming accident and cannot transfer to a seated stairlift. We installed an inclined platform lift with yellow high-visibility safety edges along the indoor stairway, a fold-up deck when not in use, and a keyed call station at the garage level. The thermal battery enclosure keeps the unit operating in the unheated garage through the coldest nights.

Common Questions

Everything Bismarck Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift cost in Bismarck right now?

Straight rails in standard Bismarck homes — the Cathedral District two-stories, the Highland Acres bungalows, the South Bismarck tract homes — run $2,800 to $5,500 installed. Curved rails for North Hill and Mandan split-levels with a mid-landing turn run $9,000 to $15,000 because the rail is manufactured to your staircase geometry. Outdoor models for raised front entries and basement walk-outs run $4,000 to $7,500. Every quote is written, honored for 30 days, and includes installation, rail, seat, battery backup, and the first service visit. The extreme cold-weather battery is included, not an add-on.

Are prices different in Bismarck than Fargo or Minot?

Equipment prices are the same across North Dakota. The -40°F battery is baseline on every ND install regardless of city. What varies slightly is install labor for unusual conditions: preserving original banisters in Cathedral District historic homes, the specialized thermal battery enclosure for unheated garages and three-season porches, and the occasional electrical upgrade in a pre-1940 bungalow where there’s no outlet within six feet of the staircase. We tell you the line items upfront.

Is a used or refurbished stairlift safe in North Dakota winters?

For straight interior staircases, a certified refurbished unit can save 30-40% — we carry factory-reconditioned rails with new upholstery, new batteries, and a 2-year warranty. We will not sell a refurbished unit in North Dakota without replacing the battery to our -40°F extreme cold spec, because factory-default batteries fail in Bismarck winters. That battery replacement is included in the refurbished price. For curved rails, refurbished is almost never available because the rail is custom to each staircase.

Do you charge extra for installs across the river in Mandan?

No. Mandan is within our standard service area — no travel fee, no Mandan surcharge. Morton County and Burleigh County are both covered. The 1960s–1970s Mandan split-levels share the same staircase patterns as the North Hill homes on the Bismarck side, so we carry the same curved-rail templates. If you’re further out — Washburn, Hazen, Beulah — call and we’ll quote a travel fee honestly. For most of the Bismarck-Mandan metro, there isn’t one.

A word from Luis

Most Bismarck families call me after the first hard winter — a parent who couldn’t get downstairs during a -25°F cold snap because the stairwell felt too dangerous, a retired farmer whose knees gave out after 40 years of North Dakota winters, a daughter in Minneapolis calling about her father’s Cathedral District bungalow because the stairs are getting steeper every year.

My job is simple: get to your house within 24 hours, measure once, and give you a price that’s honored for 30 days. No pressure. No upsells. Every Bismarck install ships with the extreme cold-weather battery — that’s standard, not an add-on.
