Our Coverage Area

Stairlift Service Across Clatsop County

Clatsop County, OR

Astoria's hillside neighborhoods drive most of our work. Uppertown, the Norwegian and Finnish district from 23rd to 40th Street, holds Victorian-era homes with steep 38-45° interior stairs and narrow 28-inch landings. The Uniontown-Alameda Historic District below the Astoria-Megler Bridge has 1880s-1910s mill cottages with raised front entries needing outdoor lifts. The Shively-McClure Historic District above downtown carries early-1900s Craftsman and Queen Anne homes on Franklin and Grand. Alderbrook south of the Astoria Column adds 1940s-50s homes on flatter ground with standard basement runs. Mill Pond Village off Marine Drive has newer post-2000 builds. Homes facing the Columbia along Franklin Avenue take the full marine salt air — corrosion-resistant hardware is mandatory on every exterior install.

Uppertown Victorian — slim-profile rail on steep original fir treads

Uppertown, OR Installed March 2026

A Victorian on the Uppertown hillside with 14 steep original Douglas fir treads pitched at 42 degrees — well beyond modern code but standard for 1890s Astoria. Mrs. Wiitala had been sleeping downstairs for two months after knee surgery at Columbia Memorial Hospital. We bolted the slim-profile rail into the treads, confirmed 28-inch clear width, and parked the cream-upholstered seat at the bottom landing. The lift travels up to the second-floor bedrooms.

Shively-McClure Craftsman — curved rail through 90° upper-landing turn

Shively-McClure Historic District, OR Installed February 2026

A 1918 Craftsman on Grand Avenue in the Shively-McClure Historic District with a 90-degree turn at the upper landing — seven treads up, then eight more around the corner to the second-floor hallway. Mr. Lindgren retired from commercial fishing in 2019. We laser-scanned the full run including the original newel post, fabricated a single curved rail, and parked the brown-upholstered seat at the upper landing.

Uniontown mill cottage — slim rail on stone treads next to original sideboard

Uniontown-Alameda Historic District, OR Installed January 2026

An 1898 cannery-worker cottage in the Uniontown-Alameda Historic District with original light-stone tile treads on a tight 30-inch stairwell. The brown-upholstered seat parks at the bottom next to the family's antique fir sideboard. Mr. Halverson's grandfather worked the Hanthorn Cannery at the foot of the hill. The slim-profile rail leaves clear passage for grandkids past the wooden cabinet, and Mr.

Franklin Avenue — marine-spec outdoor lift on stone-paved entry steps

Franklin Avenue, OR Installed December 2025

A home on Franklin Avenue facing the Columbia with eight stone-paved steps from the sidewalk to the raised front porch. Mrs. Novak stopped using the front door entirely during the wet season. The cream-upholstered weather-sealed seat parks at the bottom step. Every fastener is 316-stainless rated for saltwater exposure, the rail coating is marine-grade epoxy, and the IP55 motor housing keeps out the salt-laden wind off the Columbia.

Alderbrook ranch — straight rail on carpeted upper-landing treads

Alderbrook, OR Installed November 2025

A 1956 ranch in Alderbrook south of the Astoria Column. The carpeted treads run in warm browns and tans that match the brown-upholstered seat parked near the upper landing. Tile floor at the base. Mr. Torres's daughter called Wednesday, we measured Thursday, and the install crew arrived Friday afternoon. The rail bolts through the carpet into the wooden treads beneath — no carpet removal, no damage to the pile.

Mill Pond home — inclined wheelchair platform with yellow safety edges

Mill Pond Village, OR Installed October 2025

A two-story home in Mill Pond Village where Mr. Korhonen uses a power wheelchair full-time after a stroke. A seated stairlift was not an option — he rides his chair between floors. We installed an inclined wheelchair platform along the indoor stairway: flat black anti-slip deck, yellow high-visibility safety edges, white handrail, keyed lockout so visiting grandchildren cannot activate it.

Common Questions

Everything Astoria Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift cost in Astoria, OR?

Straight rails in standard Astoria homes — Craftsman bungalows on the hillside, Uniontown mill cottages, Alderbrook ranches — run $2,800 to $5,500 installed. Curved rails for Victorian landing turns in Uppertown and Shively-McClure run $9,000 to $15,000 because the rail is manufactured to your staircase's exact geometry. Outdoor models with our coastal spec run $4,500 to $8,000. Every quote is written, honored for 30 days, and includes installation and the first service visit.

Why are outdoor stairlifts more expensive in Astoria than inland Oregon?

Salt air. Astoria sits at the mouth of the Columbia and takes direct Pacific marine exposure year-round. Standard powder-coated hardware corrodes within two seasons here — we have seen it on competitor installs along Franklin Avenue. Our coastal spec uses 316-stainless fasteners, marine-grade epoxy rail coating, and sealed drive housings. The cost difference is $500 to $1,000 over an inland install, and it is the difference between a lift that lasts 15 years and one that seizes up in three.

Is a stairlift cheaper than moving out of my Astoria hillside home?

Relocation costs on the North Coast — real estate commission, closing costs, moving crew, new deposits — run $12,000 to $25,000 minimum. A straight stairlift installs in under four hours for $2,800 to $5,500 and lets you stay in the home you have lived in for decades, on the hillside, with your view of the Columbia. For most Astoria families, the stairlift costs less than the real estate commission alone.

Do you offer financing for Astoria homeowners?

Yes. We offer 12-month interest-free financing and extended terms up to 60 months starting at $79 per month for a standard straight install. Approval takes minutes during the in-home visit. We also help you stack financing with VA HISA, the Oregon K Plan, Oregon Project Independence, or Clatsop County senior services so you pay the lowest possible out-of-pocket.

A word from Luis

Astoria sits at the mouth of the Columbia and the housing stock shows it. Victorian-era homes climb the hillside in Uppertown with steep 42-degree interior stairs. The 1880s-1910s mill cottages in the Uniontown-Alameda Historic District have raised front entries a full flight above the sidewalk. The Shively-McClure Craftsmans on Grand Avenue have 90-degree landing turns. Post-war ranches in Alderbrook flatten out, but the basement stairs are usually the real problem.

Every outdoor surface here corrodes faster than anything inland because of the salt air off the Pacific. I measure the staircase, hand you a written quote good for 30 days, and spec every exterior component with 316-stainless fasteners and marine-grade epoxy. No pressure. No upsells. En español si lo prefiere.
