Stairlift Service Across Woods County

Woods County, OK

We install across Alva's older core, where most homes predate 1960 and stairs run narrow. On Locust Street and around the Downtown Historic District, early-1900s homes have original oak treads 30–32 inches wide with steep pitches — usually curved-rail territory. Near College Avenue and the NWOSU campus, 1920s bungalows mix with 1950s ranches and split-level entries. Flynn Street and Center Street hold compact two-story homes with tight stairwells and low landing headroom. Church Street runs to mid-century carpeted stairs, while homes near Barnes Avenue and Oklahoma Boulevard trend to single-flight runs. Every home gets a free on-site measurement before we quote.

Original oak treads, College Avenue bungalow

College Avenue, OK Installed April 2026

A 1925 bungalow near the NWOSU campus had a dark oak staircase, 32 inches wide. The owner's mother, 78, had been sleeping in the den to avoid the climb. We bolted a cream-upholstered straight rail to the treads, leaving the original woodwork untouched.

90° turn at the upper landing, Locust Street home

Locust Street Historic District, OK Installed March 2026

An early-1900s home on Locust Street had a grand staircase with a 90-degree turn at the upper landing under a chandelier. We ran 18 feet of custom-bent rail around the turn so the brown chair parks at the top floor, clearing the original banister.

Stone treads, compact Center Street home

Center Street, OK Installed February 2026

A compact 1948 home on Center Street had a narrow staircase with stone-tile treads and a wooden sideboard at the base. We drilled a brown-upholstered straight rail into the stone with masonry bits, fitting it tight so the hallway stays clear.

Flynn Street, OK Installed May 2026

An older Flynn Street home had a broad front porch with rough stone paving and seven steps that turned dangerously slick in Oklahoma winters. We installed a cream outdoor lift with IP55 weather sealing and a covered rail along the stonework, not the house facade.

Common Questions

Everything Alva Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding, no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a straight stairlift cost in Alva?

A straight stairlift starts at $2,800 installed, covering the rail, chair, and battery backup for a standard single-flight staircase. Final price depends on rail length and seat options. The in-home assessment in Alva gives you an exact, firm quote at no charge.

Why do curved stairlifts cost more in Alva's older homes?

Curved lifts start at $9,000 because each rail is custom-bent to your exact stair turns. Many pre-1920 homes on Locust and Flynn streets have a 90° turn at the upper landing, so the rail is laser-measured on site and milled to match before installation.

Are there cheaper options for a narrow staircase in Alva?

The $2,800 straight-rail unit is the most affordable new option and fits stairs as narrow as 28 inches, with the seat folding to about 13 inches. Refurbished lifts appear online but lack the warranty and battery backup Oklahoma winters demand.

Does insurance cover a stairlift in Alva?

Original Medicare does not cover stairlifts, as it treats them as home modifications rather than durable medical equipment. Oklahoma's ADvantage Waiver through SoonerCare may cover one for eligible seniors, and veterans may qualify for a VA HISA grant of up to $6,800.

A word from Luis

Drive down Locust Street and you see homes from the early 1900s, built right after the Cherokee Strip run — beautiful, but the staircases are steep and tight because people were smaller and codes barely existed. Those almost always need a curved rail to clear the landing turns.

Cross Oklahoma Boulevard toward College Hill and the NWOSU campus and it changes: 1950s ranches with straight basement runs. Those are a 14-foot rail, three hours, done. No one in Alva should be sleeping on a couch downstairs because they can't reach their own bedroom.
