Warranty Terms

This document describes the warranty coverage for stairlift equipment and installation services provided by All American Stairlifts. Warranty terms vary by manufacturer and product line — the specific coverage for your installation is detailed in your individual installation agreement.

Professional stairlift installation

Warranty Overview

Every new stairlift installed by All American Stairlifts includes three layers of warranty coverage:

  1. Manufacturer equipment warranty — covers the drive motor, control board, gearbox, and mechanical components. Duration varies by brand (2 to 5 years).
  2. Installation labor warranty — covers workmanship on the installation itself. Provided directly by All American Stairlifts for 1 year from the date of installation.
  3. Rail warranty — covers the stairlift rail (track) against manufacturing defects. Lifetime on most brands for the original owner.

The warranty period begins on the date of completed installation, not the date of purchase or order.

Manufacturer Equipment Warranty

Equipment warranty coverage is provided by the stairlift manufacturer and passed through to you. All American Stairlifts is an authorized dealer for all brands we sell, which means your manufacturer warranty is fully valid.

These are standard manufacturer warranty periods as of April 2026. Manufacturers may update their warranty terms — the terms in effect at the time of your purchase apply to your unit. Your installation agreement will specify the exact warranty periods for your equipment.

What the equipment warranty covers

  • Defects in materials and workmanship in covered components
  • Replacement parts shipped to your location at no charge
  • Manufacturer-authorized repair labor during the warranty period (terms vary by brand — some brands cover labor for the first year only, others for the full warranty term)

What the equipment warranty does not cover

  • Normal wear items: batteries, upholstery wear, rail lubrication
  • Damage from power surges, floods, fire, or other acts of nature
  • Cosmetic damage (scratches, dents, discoloration) that does not affect function
  • Damage from misuse, abuse, or accidents

Installation Labor Warranty

All American Stairlifts warrants the quality of our installation workmanship for 1 year from the date of installation. This covers:

  • Rail mounting and alignment
  • Electrical connections (outlet to charging station)
  • Programming and calibration of travel limits, speed, and safety sensors
  • Structural integrity of the rail attachment to the stair treads

If an issue arises within the first year that is determined to be caused by our installation work (rather than an equipment defect or user-caused damage), we will return to your home and correct it at no charge, including labor and travel.

The installation labor warranty does not cover issues caused by subsequent modifications to the staircase (new carpeting, stair tread replacement, structural changes) or by unauthorized service performed by a third party.

Rail Warranty

The stairlift rail (track) is the most durable component of the system. Most manufacturers offer a lifetime rail warranty for the original owner, covering defects in materials and manufacturing. This means the rail itself — the steel or aluminum extrusion that the chair rides on — is warranted against failure for as long as the original purchaser owns and uses the unit in the original installation location.

The rail warranty does not cover:

  • Surface corrosion on outdoor rails caused by normal weathering (outdoor rails require periodic maintenance)
  • Damage caused by impact (e.g., a falling object striking the rail)
  • Rails that have been cut, modified, or extended by anyone other than the original manufacturer or an authorized installer
  • Rails relocated to a different staircase

Battery Warranty

Stairlift batteries are consumable components with a limited lifespan. Most manufacturers warrant the original batteries for 1 year from installation. After the warranty period, battery replacement is a normal maintenance item.

Typical battery lifespan is 2 to 3 years with normal residential use. Battery replacement costs approximately $150 to $250 for a pair (most stairlifts use two 12V sealed lead-acid batteries). We can replace batteries during a service visit or ship them to you with instructions for self-replacement if you are comfortable doing so.

What Voids the Warranty

The following actions will void all or part of your warranty coverage:

  • Unauthorized repair or modification. Service performed by anyone other than All American Stairlifts or another manufacturer-authorized service provider voids the warranty on the affected components. This includes DIY repairs beyond basic maintenance (lubrication, battery replacement).
  • Use of non-OEM parts. Installing aftermarket or third-party replacement parts (motors, control boards, gears, charging stations) that are not sourced from or approved by the original manufacturer voids the warranty on affected components.
  • Commercial or institutional use. Residential stairlift warranties apply to private residential use only. Operating the equipment in a commercial building, rental property used as a business, group home, or institutional setting (nursing facility, assisted living) voids the residential warranty. Commercial-rated equipment with commercial warranty terms is available — contact us if this applies to your situation.
  • Exceeding the rated weight capacity. Operating the stairlift with a load exceeding the rated weight capacity specified on the equipment nameplate voids the warranty and creates a safety hazard.
  • Failure to maintain. Gross neglect of basic maintenance — such as never lubricating the rail, operating the unit with visibly damaged components, or allowing water intrusion into an indoor unit — may void coverage at the manufacturer's discretion.
  • Relocation. Moving the stairlift to a different staircase or different property voids the manufacturer warranty unless the relocation is performed by an authorized installer and the manufacturer approves the transfer in writing.

How to File a Warranty Claim

  1. Contact us. Call [Phone Placeholder] or email warranty@allamericanstairlifts.com. Describe the issue, including when it started, what the stairlift is doing (or not doing), and any error codes displayed on the control panel.
  2. We diagnose. In many cases, we can diagnose the issue by phone. If a service visit is needed, we will schedule one at a time that works for you. For warranty-covered issues, there is no charge for the diagnostic visit.
  3. We repair or replace. If the issue is covered under warranty, we will order the necessary parts from the manufacturer (typically shipped within 3 to 5 business days) and return to complete the repair. If the unit cannot be repaired, the manufacturer will authorize a replacement under the terms of their warranty.
  4. Documentation. Keep your installation agreement, invoice, and any service records. These documents serve as proof of purchase and installation date, which the manufacturer requires for warranty claims.

Extended Service Plan

After your manufacturer and installation warranties expire, we offer an optional Extended Service Plan for ongoing coverage:

FeatureExtended Service Plan
Annual cost$150/year
CoversParts and labor for mechanical and electrical failures
Response timeService visit scheduled within 3 business days
Includes annual inspectionYes — one preventive maintenance visit per year
Batteries includedNo — batteries are a separate maintenance item
TransferableNo — applies to the original purchaser at the original address

The Extended Service Plan is available for purchase at the time of installation or at any point during the manufacturer warranty period. It is not available after the manufacturer warranty has expired — we need to inspect the unit before extending coverage.

The Extended Service Plan is not an insurance policy. It is a service agreement between you and All American Stairlifts. It does not replace the manufacturer warranty — it supplements it after the manufacturer warranty expires.

Used and Refurbished Equipment

Used and refurbished stairlifts purchased through All American Stairlifts carry a 1-year parts and labor warranty provided directly by us. This covers the same components as the manufacturer warranty (drive motor, control board, mechanical parts) but is backed by All American Stairlifts rather than the original manufacturer, since manufacturer warranties are typically non-transferable.

The rail warranty on used equipment is 1 year (not lifetime), as we cannot verify the full service history of the rail.

Used equipment purchased from third parties (eBay, Craigslist, estate sales) and installed by us is covered only by our installation labor warranty (1 year workmanship). We cannot warrant equipment we did not source or inspect.

Warranty Limitations

THE WARRANTIES DESCRIBED IN THIS DOCUMENT ARE THE SOLE WARRANTIES PROVIDED BY ALL AMERICAN STAIRLIFTS. TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE DISCLAIM ALL OTHER WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY AND FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE.

Our total liability under any warranty claim shall not exceed the original purchase price of the equipment and installation. We are not liable for incidental or consequential damages arising from equipment failure, including but not limited to temporary loss of access to upper floors, alternative lodging costs, or lost wages.

Some states do not allow limitations on implied warranties or exclusion of incidental or consequential damages. In those states, the above limitations apply only to the extent permitted by law. This warranty gives you specific legal rights, and you may have additional rights that vary by state.
