A straight-rail lift on one flight costs less than a curved one, and curved rails are custom-bent to the exact staircase, so the price depends heavily on what's actually there. Some of the older Great Gorge Village units and lake-community cottages have tighter stairwells or a mid-run landing left over from their vacation-housing design, which usually pushes a job into curved-rail territory. I walk every staircase before quoting — a photo from a house built in the ski-boom years doesn't tell me enough.

Between McAfee at the low end and Highland Lakes near Mountain Creek at the high end, the township covers real elevation change across roughly 70 square miles, and ski-season traffic plus snow on the access roads is a factor from December into March. I build that into scheduling rather than fight it — better to shift an install a day than have a crew hauling a rail up an icy driveway.
A straight rail in a standard two-story is usually a one-day job, a few hours start to finish. Curved rails, more common in the older Great Gorge Village units and some of the lake cottages with an odd staircase layout, take longer because the rail has to be measured and fabricated to that specific run before installation.
Not that I've found, and I check this for every county I work in. NORWESCAP runs a Residential Maintenance and Safe Housing program funded through the Sussex County Division of Senior Services, but their published materials specifically exclude ramps and don't mention stairlifts — I wouldn't count on it covering the lift itself. Still worth a call at 1-888-454-4778 or (973) 209-7549, since they may be able to point you elsewhere.
Habitat for Humanity Northwest New Jersey's general Home Repair Program covers Sussex County and lists "aging in place needs" as one of its repair categories. Their more detailed Aging in Place add-on — the one that names grab bars and walk-in shower conversions — is written on their site as serving Warren County residents 60+ only, not Sussex. The two pages don't fully agree with each other, so call Francine Pilch, the Home Repair Administrator, at 908-835-1300 ext. 10 and ask directly what a Sussex homeowner qualifies for.
For seniors not on Medicaid, JACC caps out at $929.88 a month, $11,158.56 a year — a real number you can plan a budget around. If you're on NJ Medicaid MLTSS instead, a stairlift can be covered through your Plan of Care with no fixed dollar ceiling, approved case by case. Veterans have two separate options too: an HISA grant up to $6,800 for a service-connected condition or $2,000 non-service-connected, covering structural work around the lift, or a stairlift prescribed through VA Prosthetics with no set cap at all.
