Tampa borders the north shore of Tampa Bay and the east shore of Old Tampa Bay, and its land is extremely flat with a highest point of just 48 ft above sea level. The Tampa Bay area is considered one of the world's most vulnerable regions to a direct hit from a major storm.

Downtown Tampa has roughly 147 high-rises now, but a lot of the city's older housing stock is still sitting in places like Hyde Park along Bayshore Boulevard and the 1920s Mediterranean Revival homes on Davis Islands — two-story layouts built decades before anyone thought about aging in place. Add in a metro that sits at just 48 feet above sea level, flat as a table, and you get a strange mix: no hills to worry about getting a lift truck up to the house, but plenty of narrow historic staircases that weren't designed with a stairlift track in mind. We fit both kinds of homes — the Hyde Park two-story and the newer downtown tower unit — pretty regularly.

What makes Tampa different
Why a stairlift installed in Tampa, FL is planned around the way this specific community lives, not stamped out from a one-size-fits-all template.
Tampa's older housing is concentrated in early-1900s districts like Ybor City — a National Historic Landmark — and Hyde Park along Bayshore Boulevard, with 1920s Mediterranean Revival homes on Davis Islands. Downtown adds roughly 147 high-rises, so the stock ranges from historic two-story homes to residential towers.

Stairlift Service Across Hillsborough County
From 1920s Mediterranean Revival mansions in Hyde Park, Davis Islands, and Bayshore Beautiful — where original hardwood banisters and tight-turn landings mean curved-rail territory — to craftsman bungalows in Seminole Heights with narrow stair runs and original heart-pine treads, we know Tampa housing stock from the stairs up. Ybor City's converted cigar factory lofts sit inside a National Historic Landmark District with separate exterior modification review. Outside the historic core, we work Westshore and Palma Ceia's 1950s concrete-block ranches, Carrollwood and New Tampa's stucco tract homes, Temple Terrace's golf-course colonials, and Channelside condos. Each sub-market gets a dedicated specialist.

Hear It From Your Tampa Neighbors
The kinds of staircases and installs we see across Tampa's older and newer homes alike. Drag to scroll, or use the arrows and dots below.
Our 1924 Hyde Park home has the original oak banister — the house has been in my husband's family since 1947 and that banister is not something we would ever let anyone touch. Every other stairlift company that came out tried to tell us we'd need to remove spindles. The All American team laser-scanned the stairs, custom-made a curved rail that threads right past the newel, and matched the finish to the existing stain. You honestly have to look for it to see it. Mr. Castellano rides up to his library every morning.
I called three companies about my mother's 1968 concrete-block ranch in Carrollwood. The first guy showed up with wood screws and a cordless drill — I knew immediately he was going to drill into a concrete tread and leave us with a stairlift that would wiggle loose in a year. All American came out with a rotary hammer and actual masonry anchors. The installer, Luis, explained the difference so my mother understood it. She rode it the same afternoon. Six months in, zero movement, zero squeaks.
Our Bayshore Beautiful home sits two blocks from the seawall and we lost the porch railing to salt corrosion twice in ten years. I was skeptical an outdoor stairlift would even last here. The All American crew spec'd stainless fasteners, a sealed motor housing, and a marine-grade powder coat — they walked me through every component and why it mattered for this part of town. Milton came through six weeks after install. The lift rode it out under the hurricane straps without so much as a scratch. Dr. Eastwood is back to his morning walks along Bayshore.
My father, 87, lives in a 1923 bungalow in Seminole Heights — original heart-pine floors, original chestnut banister, original everything. I was terrified a stairlift would destroy the character of that house. All American brought wood samples to the first visit, matched the rail to the banister stain, and bolted into the treads without touching the sidewall. From the living room you don't see it. He rides up every night to bed and I finally sleep.
I'm a retired Air Force E-9, MacDill, service-connected back injury, scheduled for spinal fusion at Haley VA on a Thursday. By Wednesday afternoon I realized I had nothing in place at home — 16 stairs in our New Tampa colonial and no plan. I called All American. They measured Thursday morning while I was in surgery, installed Friday at 2 PM, and pre-filed my VA Form 10-0103 that same week. HISA covered the full $6,800. I rolled through the front door Saturday, rode up the stairs, and slept in my own bed. Nobody else I called even knew what HISA was.
Mil gracias.

Stairlift Types
Straight Stairlift
The workhorse of Tampa's two-story homes — from Carrollwood ranches to New Tampa colonials.
Over 65% of Tampa installs are this model. A single straight run, the rail bolts directly to your stair treads (never into the wall, never into the baseboard), the seat and footrest fold up out of the way, and our extended-capacity battery backup is spec'd for the kind of multi-day outages Hillsborough saw during Helene and Milton. On concrete-block construction — Seminole Heights, Westshore, Carrollwood — we bolt into the masonry treads with stainless sleeve anchors, not wood screws. Most installs wrap in 3 to 4 hours.
What's Included
- Battery backup for power outages
- Swivel seat with safety lock
- Two wireless remote controls
- Soft start and soft stop motion
- Fold-up seat, arms, and footrest
- 10-year motor & gearbox warranty
Compared to Alternatives
vs Curved: 3x less expensive and installed in one visit. vs Home elevator: 10-15x less cost and no construction. vs Moving bedroom downstairs: Keeps your home exactly as it is.
Curved Stairlift
Custom rails for Hyde Park, Davis Islands, and Seminole Heights bungalow landings.
When your staircase has a 90° turn, a 180° switchback, a mid-landing, or — in Hyde Park, Davis Islands, and Bayshore Beautiful Mediterranean Revival homes — an original hardwood banister the family absolutely will not let us touch, the rail has to be manufactured to your exact stair geometry. We laser-scan on the first visit, fabricate the curved rail (7 to 10 days), and install in a single afternoon. We've preserved original 1920s oak banisters in Hyde Park and threaded custom rails through Seminole Heights bungalow runs without touching the original millwork.
What's Included
- Free on-site digital measurement
- Single continuous curved rail
- Handles 90°, 180°, or spiral turns
- Powered swivel at top landing
- Park position out of the walkway
- 10-year warranty on all parts
Compared to Alternatives
vs Straight with landing break: One smooth ride instead of transferring seats. vs Home elevator: Half the cost, no construction permits, no shaft needed. vs Moving: A fraction of what selling and relocating costs.
Outdoor Stairlift
Salt air, humidity, and hurricane-ready — built for Tampa Bay porches.
Every component is sealed against 80% summer humidity, UV-coated for year-round Tampa sun, and shipped with the upgraded battery spec we rolled out after Helene and Milton. The seat cover is rated for 2,000+ hours of direct sun — a non-UV cover dies in two Tampa summers and we learned that the hard way. Perfect for raised porches in Hyde Park and Bayshore Beautiful, Davis Islands side entries, and Ballast Point seawall homes. Every Bay-adjacent install (within a mile of the shoreline) ships with marine-grade stainless fasteners, a sealed IP54 motor housing, and hurricane tie-down straps standard. Quick-release seat brackets included on every outdoor unit so the motor pops off in 30 seconds before the next named storm.
What's Included
- Marine-grade weather cover
- All-weather corrosion protection
- Storm-rated anchor system
- Lockable key power switch
- Sealed IP54 control panels
- 5-year full-weather warranty
Compared to Alternatives
vs Standard stairlift outdoors: Won't rust, seize, or void its warranty. vs Exterior ramp: No permits, no concrete work, no lost yard. vs Home entry renovation: Installed in a single day.
Heavy-Duty Stairlift
When comfort and capacity matter more than the standard 300 lb limit.
The reinforced frame handles up to 600 lbs with a 22-inch padded seat — wider than any standard model. Popular with Tampa families caring for post-bariatric-surgery parents, with wheelchair users who transfer to the seat, and for Haley VA post-surgery discharge installs where full weight-bearing isn't yet safe. Same hurricane battery backup, same SMMC-LTC and HISA paperwork support, same single-day install as our standard straight-rail lineup.
What's Included
- 400 lb rated weight capacity
- 22-inch wide padded seat
- Reinforced dual-tube rail
- Extended footrest and armrests
- Weight-rated safety harness
- 10-year motor & frame warranty
Compared to Alternatives
vs Standard stairlift: Extra capacity and wider seat for maximum comfort. vs Custom furniture lift: A fraction of the price with faster install. vs Home elevator: Much lower cost with the same weight confidence.

Everything Tampa Homeowners Actually Ask
Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding, no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.
What does a stairlift cost in Tampa?
Pricing depends mostly on staircase type — straight runs are the cheapest, curved rails custom-bent for something like a Hyde Park or Davis Islands two-story cost more because every rail is made to fit that one staircase. Tampa's affordability band skews premium relative to a lot of Florida metros, and we quote after an in-home measurement rather than a phone estimate because a 147-high-rise downtown condo stairwell and a 1920s Mediterranean Revival home need completely different hardware.
Is it cheaper to buy a used or reconditioned stairlift in Tampa?
Reconditioned straight lifts run less than new, and we do sell them when the fit works, but curved-rail systems for older Hyde Park or Ybor City-area homes are usually built new for that specific staircase — there's rarely a reconditioned curved rail sitting around that happens to match a century-old stair geometry.
Does Tampa's flood risk affect installation cost?
Not the lift install itself. Tampa Bay is one of the more storm-exposed metros in the country, sitting right on the north shore of the bay, so if a home has had water intrusion near the base of the stairs we'll check the wall and floor condition before mounting brackets — that's a five-minute inspection, not an added line item in most cases.
How long does a stairlift installation take in Tampa?
A straight staircase in a typical suburban Tampa home is usually a same-day job. Curved rail for one of the older Hyde Park or Davis Islands homes takes longer because the rail has to be custom-fabricated to that staircase's exact bends first — we measure on one visit and install once the rail's built.
Can a stairlift be installed in a historic Ybor City or Hyde Park home?
Yes, and we do it without cutting into original woodwork or plaster where we can avoid it. Ybor City is a National Historic Landmark district and Hyde Park has a lot of preserved early-1900s detail, so mounting brackets get placed to follow the stair stringer's actual load points rather than a generic template — it protects the staircase and the lift holds properly.
Do downtown Tampa high-rise condos need special stairlift setups?
Most downtown towers are elevator buildings, so a stairlift request there is usually for an interior loft staircase inside the unit rather than the building's main stairwell — those are typically straight runs and install fast, closer to the suburban timeline than the historic-home one.
Does Florida Medicaid pay for a stairlift in Hillsborough County?
It can, through the Statewide Medicaid Managed Care Long-Term Care program (SMMC LTC), which lists "Home Accessibility Adaptation" as a required minimum service. There's no fixed dollar cap — it's approved case-by-case by your LTC plan's care manager based on medical necessity, so a stairlift isn't guaranteed automatically, but it's within scope of what the program can fund. We're not the ones who approve it; that's AHCA and your assigned plan.
Where do I start if I want help figuring out funding in Tampa?
Call the Senior Connection Center's Elder Helpline at 1-800-963-5337 — they're the Area Agency on Aging for PSA 6, which covers Hillsborough County, and their office is right here in Tampa at 8928 Brittany Way. They don't cut checks for home modifications directly, but they do LTC options counseling and point you toward the SMMC LTC pathway and other Older Americans Act-funded services you may qualify for.
Does VA disability or a VA grant cover a stairlift for a veteran in Tampa?
Not through the HISA grant — the VA's own prosthetics program specifically excludes portable ramps, porch lifts, and stair glides from HISA funding. A stairlift can still be covered through VA Prosthetics as a medically prescribed item with no fixed dollar cap, which is a separate process from the HISA grant (which tops out at $6,800 for service-connected veterans or $2,000 non-service-connected, and that money goes toward structural home changes, not the lift itself). With MacDill Air Force Base and U.S. Central Command based here, we walk a fair number of Tampa veterans through that distinction.

I've measured staircases in some of those Ybor City-adjacent bungalows where the stringer width barely gives you room to breathe, let alone mount a rail bracket the standard way — you adapt the bracket spacing, not the staircase. Tampa Bay storm season also changes how we talk to people: if you're on a barrier island or anywhere near Bayshore and you evacuate seasonally, we build that into the install schedule so you're not waiting on a lift during hurricane prep season. It's a detail nobody in Ohio has to think about, but here it matters.
