Our Coverage Area

Stairlift Service Across Leon County

Leon County, FL

From the 1920s–1940s bungalows of Midtown — steep heart-pine staircases, original plaster walls, and narrow hallways between Monroe Street and Thomasville Road — to the 1970s–80s split-levels of Killearn Estates north of I-10 where carpeted stairs and mid-landing turns are the norm, our team has mapped every pocket of Tallahassee.

We know which Betton Hills homes have the sunken living room with five steps down, which Southwood floor plans install in three hours flat, and which All Saints colonials have the narrow back staircase that needs a compact-profile rail. The Lake Jackson subdivisions take outdoor-rated lifts for raised entries, and Bradfordville homes on acreage often need a garage-to-house level change. We also cover Crawfordville, Quincy, Monticello, and Perry.

1938 Midtown bungalow — heart-pine treads, original banister untouched

Midtown, FL Installed March 2026

A 1938 bungalow on a tree-lined block between Thomasville Road and Monroe Street with original heart-pine treads, plaster walls, and a wooden banister the homeowner’s late husband had refinished by hand in 1987. Mrs. Patterson’s instruction was direct: “Don’t you dare touch that banister.” We predrilled into the treads only using a depth-stop bit, matched the bracket finish to the aged heart pine, and ran the rail flush to the opposite wall. The banister is exactly as her husband left it. Completed in a single morning.

Betton Hills mid-century — curved rail through a 90° landing turn

Betton Hills, FL Installed February 2026

A 1958 mid-century in Betton Hills with a sunken living room — five steps down, then a 90° landing turn and eight more steps up to the bedrooms. A straight rail was not an option. We laser-scanned the full run on the first visit, manufactured a curved rail that carries the Isaacs from the bedroom hallway to the sunken living room in a single continuous ride, and added a swivel-exit seat at the upper landing. Mr. Isaacs, a retired FAMU professor, tested it six times before declaring the ride smooth enough.

Killearn Estates colonial — straight rail on carpeted treads, SMMC-LTC funded

Killearn Estates, FL Installed January 2026

A 1977 Killearn Estates colonial with 14 carpeted treads and a standard 36-inch-wide staircase. Mrs. Rawlings had been sleeping in the downstairs guest room since her back surgery at Tallahassee Memorial, unable to climb the stairs to the master bedroom she’d used for 40 years. We bolted a straight rail through the carpet into the wooden treads beneath — no carpet removal, no damage to the pile. The brown-upholstered seat folds flat against the wall when not in use. Mrs. Rawlings qualified for SMMC-LTC through her Medicaid MCO and we handled the environmental modification authorization end to end. She paid nothing out of pocket.

Lake Jackson — weather-sealed outdoor rail on a raised front entry

Lake Jackson, FL Installed December 2025

A 1985 home north of Lake Jackson with a raised front entry — six concrete steps exposed to North Florida rain, afternoon humidity, and tropical storm feeder bands from June through November. Mr. Dawson, an Army veteran enrolled at the Tallahassee CBOC, qualified for a HISA grant through the Malcom Randall VAMC in Gainesville. We coordinated every piece of paperwork between the CBOC and the Gainesville HISA office without Mr. Dawson making a single trip east. The outdoor rail is sealed against humidity, UV-coated, and ran through a full hurricane season without a service call.

All Saints colonial — slim-profile rail in a 28-inch back staircase

All Saints, FL Installed November 2025

A 1952 colonial in All Saints with both a main staircase and a narrow back staircase that was originally the servants’ entrance. Mrs. Beaumont’s bedroom was on the second floor and she preferred the back stairs — shorter route to the kitchen — but the 28-inch width was too narrow for a standard rail. Two other companies declined the job. We fitted the slimmest rail in our catalog with a fold-flat seat and folding footrest, preserving 22 inches of usable passage width. She uses it four times a day; the grandchildren use the front stairs and never notice the lift.

Platform Lift

Southwood home — inclined wheelchair platform lift for split-entry layout

Southwood, FL Installed October 2025

A 2004 Southwood home with a split-entry layout where Mr. Webber uses a power wheelchair full-time after a spinal cord injury. A seated stairlift was not an option — he needed to ride his chair between levels. We installed an inclined wheelchair platform lift along the indoor stairway: a flat black anti-slip platform with yellow high-visibility safety edges on all thresholds, white handrails, and a keyed lockout so the grandchildren can’t activate it unsupervised. Mr. Webber’s HISA grant covered $6,800 of the cost, and SMMC-LTC through his Molina MCO covered the remaining balance. He rolls onto the platform, presses one button, and rides the incline to the upper floor without ever leaving his chair.

Common Questions

Everything Tallahassee Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift actually cost in Tallahassee right now?

Straight rails in standard Tallahassee homes — the two-story Killearn colonials, the Southwood master-plan floor plans, the Betton Hills ranches — run $2,800 to $5,500 installed. Curved rails, needed for the split-level landings in Killearn Estates and the steep narrow turns in 1930s Midtown bungalows, run $9,000 to $15,000 because the rail is manufactured to your staircase geometry. Outdoor models for raised entries and carport-to-house level changes run $4,000 to $7,500 with full humidity and weather sealing. Every quote is written, honored for 30 days, and includes installation, rail, seat, battery backup, and the first service visit.

Are prices different in Tallahassee than South Florida?

Equipment prices are the same across Florida — we don’t inflate quotes for Betton Hills addresses or discount for Crawfordville. What varies slightly is install labor for unusual conditions: preserving original heart-pine treads in Midtown bungalows, navigating the narrow back staircases in 1950s All Saints homes, and pulling an electrical permit for a dedicated circuit in a pre-war home with original 60-amp service. We itemize everything upfront.

How does humidity affect the equipment long-term?

Tallahassee’s year-round humidity is the number-one hardware threat in this market. Average summer dew points above 70°F push moisture into any unsealed motor housing, and the swing between an air-conditioned 72°F interior and a 92°F exterior creates condensation inside the rail cavity every time the AC cycles. We install a sealed IP54 motor housing, humidity-rated lubricant, and a desiccant pouch inside the rail cavity on every Leon County install — baseline spec, not add-ons. The desiccant is replaced at the 12-month service visit.

Do I need a historic-district review for my Midtown home?

For an interior stairlift — no. The Tallahassee-Leon County Historic Preservation Board reviews exterior modifications in designated districts like Park Avenue and parts of Midtown, but interior rail installs are not within their jurisdiction. You’ll only need review if we’re adding an outdoor porch lift on a contributing structure in the historic district. We handle the HPB submission at no charge when that applies.

A word from Luis

Most Tallahassee families call me after the conversation has been put off too long — a parent who hasn't been upstairs in the Betton Hills colonial since the hip replacement, a retired state worker in Killearn whose knees gave out halfway down the stairs last Tuesday, a daughter at FSU who realized her grandmother in Midtown was sleeping on the couch rather than climbing to her bedroom.

My job is simple: get to your house within 24 hours, measure once, and give you a price that's honored for 30 days. No pressure. No upsells. En español si lo prefiere.
