Straight Stairlift

The workhorse of St. Louis two-story brick flats and Southside bungalows.

More than 70% of the stairlifts we install inside City of St. Louis limits are this model. A single straight run — perfect for the classic 1895-1915 red brick two-story flat sixteen-tread interior stair in Tower Grove South, Soulard, Benton Park, Shaw, Dutchtown, and The Hill, and for the 1920s Dutchtown, Bevo Mill, and St. Louis Hills bungalow with a tighter basement drop. The rail bolts into the stair treads (never into plaster or original millwork), the seat and footrest fold out of the way so the rest of the household can still use the stair, and the battery keeps you moving through an Ameren outage. Most installs finish in under four hours.

Starting at $2,800 installed

What's Included

  • Battery backup for power outages
  • Swivel seat with safety lock
  • Two wireless remote controls

Compared to Alternatives

Stairlift Service Across St. Louis County

St. Louis County, MO

From Lafayette Square Victorians and Central West End mansion blocks to the red brick two-story flats of Tower Grove South, Benton Park, and Fox Park, our crew has mapped the St. Louis staircase. The defining install in this city is the 1895-1915 brick flat with a sixteen-tread interior run off the front hall — the same stair in Soulard, in Shaw, in the Gate District, and out through Dutchtown and Bevo Mill.

In Compton Heights, Holly Hills, and St. Louis Hills the conversation shifts to 1920s brick single-families with a straight run and a tight basement drop. Along Westmoreland Place, Portland Place, and Hortense Place — the Central West End private streets — the covenants and preservation boards come out before the tape measure does. On The Hill, we've installed for three generations of the same Italian families on Marconi, Shaw, and Macklind.

1902 Tower Grove South brick two-story flat — sixteen-tread front hall run

Tower Grove South, MO Installed March 2026

A 1902 red brick two-story flat on Juniata Street, half a block off Tower Grove Park, with the classic Southside layout — sixteen interior treads off the front hall, original softwood risers, and a narrow 34-inch width. Mrs. Henderson is 79 and her bedroom is on the second floor. We fitted the slim-profile rail against the wall side away from the banister, bolted directly into the tread wood, and mounted a swivel-exit seat so she steps off onto the upstairs hall floor instead of the top tread. Install wrapped in three hours and she was upstairs picking out a dress for her grandson's Tower Grove Park wedding that same afternoon.

1887 Lafayette Square Victorian — 90° turn past an original walnut newel

Lafayette Square, MO Installed February 2026

An 1887 Second Empire Victorian facing Lafayette Park with a carved walnut banister and a mid-landing 90° turn — the kind of stair that makes curved-rail installers either show up with a laser scanner or lose the job. Dr. Whitfield is a retired Washington University pathologist and had already sent two companies home for proposing wall brackets through her plaster. We digitally scanned the run on the first visit, fabricated a curved rail that threads past the original walnut newel with two inches of clearance, and installed over a single Saturday. Not one tool ever touched the banister.

1908 Central West End mansion — low-profile rail over original oak treads

Central West End, MO Installed January 2026

A 1908 mansion on a private block a short walk from Kingshighway with a 17-foot straight run of original quartersawn oak treads. Mrs. Ballentine is on a Central West End preservation committee and had one non-negotiable instruction: nothing visible from the parlor looking up. We specified a color-matched charcoal rail finish and a slim-profile folding seat that reads as dark bronze against the oak. Bolted entirely into the tread wood — zero wall contact, zero plaster contact, zero banister contact. She hosts Monday book club and two weeks in, nobody had noticed the lift.

1889 Soulard rowhouse — outdoor lift over seven brick stoop steps

Soulard, MO Installed December 2025

An 1889 Soulard Victorian rowhouse a block off the Soulard Market with the original seven-step brick stoop and a homeowner who had spent ten months unable to leave for Saturday market without his son driving over to help. The Soulard Historic District covers exterior alterations, so we filed the Preservation Board application at no charge and drilled into the wood stoop framing rather than the brick faces — nothing visible changed from Menard Street. Humidity-sealed motor housing and UV-stabilized seat standard. He was at the market by himself the next Saturday.

1952 Bevo Mill bungalow — straight rail on carpeted stairs for post-hip return

Bevo Mill, MO Installed November 2025

A 1952 brick bungalow on Gravois Road in the Bevo Mill corridor with carpeted stairs and a standard 36-inch-wide staircase running from the front hall to the upper bedrooms. Mr. Novak came home from Barnes-Jewish after a hip replacement and needed the lift in place before discharge. We measured on Wednesday, confirmed the rail length and tread spacing, and installed Friday morning — one hour before the hospital van arrived. The rail bolts through the carpet into the wood treads beneath without removing or damaging the pile. The folding seat parks flush against the wall and the family walks past it without a second glance.

Platform Lift

The Hill — inclined wheelchair platform lift for three-generation family home

The Hill, MO Installed October 2025

A 1931 two-story brick home on Marconi Avenue, three generations of the Russo family still under one roof, and a grandfather who uses a power wheelchair full-time after a stroke. A seated stairlift was not an option — he needed to ride his chair between floors. We installed an inclined wheelchair platform lift along the interior stairway: a flat anti-slip platform with yellow high-visibility safety edges, white handrails, and a keyed lockout so visiting grandchildren cannot activate it unsupervised. The VA HISA grant covered $6,800 and his MO HealthNet waiver covered the remaining balance. He rolls onto the platform, presses one button, and rides the incline to the upper floor without ever leaving his chair.

Common Questions

Everything St. Louis Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift actually cost in St. Louis right now?

Straight rails in a typical red brick two-story flat — Tower Grove South, Soulard, Benton Park, Dutchtown, The Hill — run $2,800 to $5,500 installed. Curved rails for Lafayette Square Victorians, Central West End mansion blocks, and Compton Heights landings run $9,000 to $15,000 because the rail is manufactured to your exact staircase geometry. Outdoor and humidity-sealed models for raised front stoops and porch runs cost $4,000 to $7,500. Every quote is written, held for 30 days, and includes the rail, seat, battery backup, installation, and first service visit.

Do City of St. Louis addresses cost more than St. Louis County?

No. A straight rail inside the city limits in Shaw costs the same as one in Kirkwood, Webster Groves, or Clayton. Where a line item can appear is when a pre-1940 brick flat still runs on 60-amp service and needs a dedicated 20-amp circuit for the lift charger — common in Soulard, Fox Park, and the older blocks of Dutchtown. The City of St. Louis Building Division requires an electrical permit pulled by a locally-licensed electrical contractor for that work. The permit pass-through is typically $75 to $150, and it shows up on your quote before you sign.

Are there hidden fees for Lafayette Square or Soulard historic homes?

No. St. Louis Preservation Board review applies to exterior-visible work in Lafayette Square, Soulard, Benton Park, Central West End, Compton Heights, and The Ville — but a stairlift installed inside your home is not subject to review. We confirmed this with the Cultural Resources Office. The only time we file a Preservation Board application is for outdoor lifts on a stoop or porch that faces the street in a designated district, and we file that packet at no charge. No architectural review fees, no surprise engineering letters.

Is there a surcharge for Spanish or Bosnian interpretation?

No. Luis is fully bilingual and every assessment in Dutchtown, Cherokee Street, Bevo Mill, and the Southside can be conducted in Spanish at your request — printed quotes, consent forms, and the operating manual are all available in Spanish. For Bosnian-speaking households in the Bevo Mill corridor — home to one of the largest Bosnian communities in the country — we coordinate a qualified translator through Mid-East Area Agency on Aging at zero cost to the family.

A word from Luis

Almost every St. Louis call comes down to one thing: a red brick two-story flat built between 1890 and 1925, and a single interior stair running off the front hall to the second floor. Tower Grove South, Soulard, Benton Park, Fox Park, Dutchtown, The Hill — the exterior changes, the stair doesn't. Sixteen treads, a 36-inch width, a banister the family refuses to touch, and a basement run underneath that nobody mentions until I'm standing in the front parlor.

What I do: show up inside 24 hours, laser-measure the run, and hand you a written quote held for 30 days. En español si lo prefiere. For Bosnian-speaking families in Bevo Mill, I coordinate a translator through Mid-East Area Agency on Aging at no charge.
