Our Coverage Area

Stairlift Service Across Strafford County

Strafford County, NH

Somersworth packs six distinct residential areas into just 10 square miles. The Hill — the historic district around Market Street — has the oldest housing stock, Victorian-era homes with the narrow, steep staircases of 1880s mill-town construction. Indigo Hill in the eastern part of the city holds newer single-family homes and condos where multilevel layouts put bedrooms on upper floors. Blackwater Road along the Dover line is lined with Capes and colonials from the 1960s and 70s, mostly hardwood treads where straight rails bolt in cleanly. Salmon Falls Road follows the river south past Mast Point Dam, with raised ranches and split-levels from the 1970s through 1990s. Stackpole Road and Buffumsville mix mid-century ranches with newer construction.

Straight

Straight Rail on Dark Hardwood Treads, Indigo Hill

Indigo Hill, NH Installed October 2026

The Dubes' 1998 colonial had dark oak treads on the main staircase — beautiful to look at, difficult to climb after Mrs. Dube's knee replacement. We bolted a 16-foot straight rail to the treads with the beige seat parked at the bottom landing. The rail color was matched to the oak finish, and the install ran right at three hours.

Curved

Curved Rail at Upper Landing, The Hill Historic District

The Hill, NH Installed August 2026

This 1885 Victorian on Market Street had a half-wall at the upper landing where the staircase turned 90 degrees. The Carons needed their mother to reach the second-floor bedroom. We laser-measured the full staircase, fabricated a curved rail that wraps the turn at the half-wall, and mounted the brown seat at the top landing beneath the chandelier.

Straight

Straight Rail Beside Wooden Sideboard, Blackwater Road

Blackwater Road, NH Installed July 2026

A 1967 Cape near the Dover line with stone tile treads and a wooden sideboard at the base of the stairs. Mr. Ouellette had been avoiding the second floor entirely. The brown seat parks right beside the sideboard without blocking the hallway. The stone treads took slightly longer to drill, adding about 30 minutes to the standard straight-rail install.

Outdoor

Outdoor Lift on Stone Porch Entry, Salmon Falls Road

Salmon Falls Road, NH Installed September 2026

A raised ranch with a rough stone-paved porch entry — six steps up from the driveway. The Pelletiers' father couldn't manage the outdoor stairs in winter. We installed a cream-colored outdoor lift with IP55-sealed motor and marine-grade rail coating rated for Somersworth's 51 inches of annual snowfall. The rail runs straight up the right side of the stone steps.

Straight

Straight Rail on Carpeted Stairs, Central Park

Central Park, NH Installed June 2026

A compact duplex near downtown with fully carpeted stairs and a tiled floor at the base. Mrs. Tremblay needed a lift to reach the upstairs bathroom. The brown seat matched the carpet tone well and the rail bolted cleanly through the carpet into the treads beneath. The three-hour install had her upstairs again the same afternoon.

Platform Lift

Indoor Wheelchair Platform Lift, Market Street

Market Street, NH Installed May 2026

The Bergerons' son uses a wheelchair full-time, and the staircase inside their Market Street apartment building was the daily barrier. We installed an inclined platform lift with a flat black deck and yellow safety edges along a straight staircase. The white handrail runs alongside the platform track. Indoor use only — the lift carries up to 600 lb and the son operates it himself with the wireless remote.

Common Questions

Everything Somersworth Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

How much does a stairlift cost in Somersworth, NH?

A straight stairlift in Somersworth starts at $2,800 installed. Curved lifts — common in The Hill's Victorian homes with their 90-degree landings — start at $9,000. Outdoor lifts for Salmon Falls Road porches and stoops start at $4,000. Heavy-duty units rated to 600 lb start at $5,050. You can finance any of these from $79/month. Every quote includes the assessment, rail fabrication, installation, and a 5-year warranty with lifetime rail coverage.

What does the Somersworth in-home assessment include?

Luis comes to your home and measures every dimension: stair width, rise and run of each tread, landing depth, and any turns. On The Hill Victorians he checks for the uneven treads common in 1880s construction. In Indigo Hill colonials he measures the basement-to-first-floor flight. He also checks the electrical outlet location — the lift plugs into a standard wall outlet, no rewiring needed. The assessment takes about 45 minutes and you get a firm price at the end.

Are there hidden costs I should know about for a Somersworth install?

No. The price Luis quotes at the assessment is the price you pay. It covers the rail, seat, installation labor, and warranty. The only variable is if you need a curved rail — those cost more because the rail is custom-bent to your exact staircase geometry. Somersworth homes built before 1940 sometimes need a rail with tighter bend radii, which is factored into the curved quote upfront.

Can I get financing for a stairlift in Somersworth?

Yes. Financing starts at $79/month. There's no prepayment penalty and no balloon payment. The application takes about 10 minutes and you'll have an answer the same day. Many Somersworth families combine financing with the HISA grant — the grant covers $6,800 for service-connected veterans and financing covers the rest.

A word from Luis

I've been putting stairlifts into Somersworth homes for over 15 years now. The older places on The Hill — the Victorians around Market Street built when this was still Great Falls — those have the steepest stairs I see anywhere in Strafford County. Thirty-four inches wide, some of them. But we fit rails to every single one.

The newer subdivisions like Indigo Hill have wider staircases, but the homeowners there are dealing with the same thing: knees and hips that don't cooperate on 14-degree January mornings. Last week I put a straight lift into a Cape on Blackwater Road — three hours, bolted to the treads, homeowner was back upstairs before noon.

For veterans, the Somersworth VA Clinic on Route 108 handles the HISA grant paperwork. And if your mom's on Medicaid, the NH Choices for Independence waiver covers home modifications — you just need a case manager to add it to the care plan. ServiceLink in Strafford County can walk you through eligibility.

Your Next Step

Ready to get started? It's simple.

Somersworth is the smallest city in New Hampshire by land area, but it has more stairlift installs per square mile than almost anywhere we work in the Seacoast Region. The housing stock tells the story: a quarter of these homes went up before World War II, and the median build year of 1967 means most staircases were framed long before accessibility was part of the conversation.

Whether you're on The Hill in an 1880s Victorian, in a Cape on Blackwater Road, or in a newer colonial on Indigo Hill, we've measured and fitted rails for your kind of staircase before. Call Luis at (603) 692-4266 or fill out the form — he'll come out, measure, and give you a firm price. Same day assessment, install usually within a week.
