Stairlift Service Across Santa Cruz County

Santa Cruz County, CA

On the Westside, steep lots and narrow stairs define every install — craftsman bungalows and post-war ranches climbing toward UCSC with split-level entries steeper than modern code allows. Downtown and Mission Hill hold the city's oldest homes — 1880s Victorians with original fir banisters and ornamental millwork we bolt around, never into. The Eastside, Seabright, and Live Oak shift to 1950s beach cottages and 1960s ranches — wider stairs, faster installs, but the salt air is worst here. In Pleasure Point and Capitola, hillside lots above East Cliff Drive have exterior concrete stairs where outdoor rails with marine-grade sealed housings are the standard order. Every Santa Cruz install ships with stainless fasteners and sealed motor housings — the salt reaches every address.

Walnut Avenue Victorian — straight rail on steep original fir treads

Downtown, CA Installed March 2026

An 1892 Victorian on Walnut Avenue in the Downtown Historic District — the kind of home Santa Cruz is known for. Steep, narrow stairs with original fir treads and ornamental turned spindles. Mr. Alderman had a stroke in December and his physical therapist at Dominican Hospital flagged the staircase as the single highest fall risk in the house. The treads were structurally sound despite 134 years of use, so we mounted a standard straight rail directly into them without touching the spindles, the newel post, or the plaster walls. We color-matched the rail to the existing dark fir finish. The beige seat parks at the bottom landing with the footrest folded so the front hallway stays fully passable. Stainless fasteners and sealed motor housing — standard on every Santa Cruz install because the salt air reaches Downtown too.

1924 Westside craftsman — curved rail parked at upper landing past original fir banister

Westside, CA Installed February 2026

A 1924 craftsman bungalow on a sloped Westside lot two blocks below the UCSC campus entrance. The staircase runs from a sunken living room up to three bedrooms with a quarter-turn at the top landing and an original Douglas fir banister that Mrs. Sorensen's late husband refinished by hand in 1987. Her first sentence on the phone was 'that banister does not get touched.' We laser-scanned the staircase, fabricated a curved rail that follows the quarter-turn without contacting a single spindle, and bolted the track into the existing treads. The brown-upholstered seat is parked at the upper landing where the rail curves around the wall — ready for the next ride down. Her neighbor came over for coffee the following week and didn't notice it until Mrs. Sorensen pointed it out.

Mission Hill cottage — compact straight rail on stone-tile treads beside original woodwork

Mission Hill, CA Installed January 2026

A 1940s cottage on Mission Hill with stone-tile treads on a compact interior staircase next to a wooden sideboard and a potted plant at the bottom landing. The house has that traditional Santa Cruz cottage character — warm and tight, with furniture tucked against every wall and the salt air from three blocks away demanding sealed hardware on everything. The brown-upholstered seat matches the earthy tone of the stone treads. We bolted the straight rail into the tile using masonry anchors with stainless steel fasteners, kept the seat profile slim enough that Mrs. Nakamura can still reach her sideboard without moving it, and sealed the motor housing against the coastal moisture. The compact space was why two previous companies said it couldn't be done.

Pleasure Point hillside — outdoor rail on concrete entry steps above East Cliff Drive

Pleasure Point, CA Installed December 2025

A hillside home above East Cliff Drive in Pleasure Point where the driveway sits a full story above the front door — twelve exterior concrete steps running down through a retaining wall covered in ice plant. Mr. Brennan is a retired Navy veteran who served at the Defense Language Institute in Monterey and is enrolled at the VA Palo Alto Healthcare System through the Santa Cruz County Vet Center in Capitola. After a knee replacement, those twelve steps became impassable. We prefilled VA Form 10-0103, the VA prescription came through in five weeks, and we installed an outdoor rail with UV-resistant powder coating, marine-grade stainless fasteners, and a sealed IP55 motor housing rated for the direct salt exposure that hits East Cliff Drive homes year-round. The cream seat blends with the home's exterior stucco. The rail has run through a full winter of Pacific storms and fog without a service call.

Seabright beach cottage — straight rail on carpeted stairs three blocks from the harbor

Seabright, CA Installed November 2025

A 1952 beach cottage in Seabright, three blocks from the harbor. Mrs. Chen has lived here since 1981 and was not leaving despite her daughter's repeated requests. The stairs from the main floor to two upstairs bedrooms are a standard straight run with brown carpeted treads over plywood subfloor — a fast install, but the salt air demanded the full marine-grade package. We bolted through the carpet into the subfloor with stainless steel fasteners, sealed the motor housing to IP54, and applied the marine-grade powder coat to the rail. The brown-upholstered seat blends with the warm carpet tones and parks at the upper landing. The cottage's narrow hallway stays clear because the seat and footrest fold flat against the wall. The lift has been through a full winter of Pacific storms without a service call.

Platform Lift

Live Oak split-level — inclined wheelchair platform lift to converted garage suite

Live Oak, CA Installed October 2025

A 1963 ranch in Live Oak — the kind of single-story home that looks flat from the curb but has a six-step drop from the main hallway to a converted garage suite. Mr. Petrov's wife uses a power wheelchair full-time after a spinal injury and cannot transfer to a seated stairlift. We installed an inclined wheelchair platform lift on the indoor stairway — a flat black anti-slip platform with yellow high-visibility safety edges on all sides and a white handrail along the wall. The platform rides the rail between the main living level and the garage suite, carrying the wheelchair and rider without any transfer required. Stainless fasteners and sealed motor housing are standard even on this indoor install because the Live Oak salt air reaches everything. The grandchildren still run up and down the stairs beside it.

Common Questions

Everything Santa Cruz Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift cost in Santa Cruz right now?

Straight rails in Santa Cruz beach cottages, Live Oak ranches, and Eastside two-stories run $2,800 to $5,500 installed. Curved rails — needed in Downtown Victorians with 90° or 180° landings, Westside craftsman quarter-turns, and Mission Hill homes with split staircases — run $9,000 to $15,000 because the rail is laser-scanned and fabricated to your exact staircase. Outdoor hillside rails for Pleasure Point entry steps and raised porches in Seabright run $4,000 to $8,500 depending on rail length and terrain. Every quote includes stainless fasteners and marine-grade coating — standard on every Santa Cruz install — and is written, CSLB-verifiable, and honored for 30 days.

Do you charge extra for the marine-grade salt-air package?

No. Every single install inside the city of Santa Cruz — and most of Santa Cruz County — gets 316 stainless fasteners, sealed IP54 motor housings, and marine-grade powder-coat rail at no upcharge. The salt air reaches every address in this city. Standard zinc-plated hardware pits within three seasons on any home west of Highway 1, and in Santa Cruz that's basically every home we measure. We don't itemize it as an upgrade because it should never be optional here.

Is there a travel fee for Santa Cruz or the surrounding communities?

No. Santa Cruz is the center of our Central Coast coverage zone. No travel surcharge anywhere in the service area — Santa Cruz, Live Oak, Capitola, Pleasure Point, Scotts Valley, Soquel, Aptos, or Watsonville.

Is a used or refurbished stairlift worth considering in a coastal environment?

For straight staircases, a certified refurbished unit can save 30-40%. We carry factory-reconditioned straight rails with new upholstery, new batteries, and a 2-year warranty. Every refurbished unit ships with the same stainless fasteners and marine-grade coating as a new install — critical in the Santa Cruz salt belt. For curved rails, refurbished almost never works because each rail is fabricated to a specific staircase geometry. Ask during the assessment.

A word from Luis

Most Santa Cruz families call me after someone stops going upstairs — a father who hasn't used the second floor of his Westside Victorian since the hip surgery, a mother in a Mission Hill craftsman who sleeps on the living room couch because the bedroom stairs are too steep, a daughter in San Jose who calls every night worried about her mother alone in a two-story on Walnut Avenue.

I drive to your house within 24 hours, measure once, and give you a written price honored for 30 days. If you're a veteran, I'll walk you through the HISA paperwork before I leave your kitchen table. No pressure. No upsells.
