Straight Stairlift

The workhorse of Salem's Capitol-district bungalows, postwar ranches, and Keizer tracts.

Over 70% of the stairlifts we install in Marion County are this model. A single straight run, the rail bolts to your stair treads (never into the wall), the seat and footrest fold up out of the way, and the moisture-spec battery backup keeps you moving through the next outage. Most Salem installs wrap in under four hours. Every unit ships with IP54-sealed motor housings and anti-mold gaskets — the Willamette Valley standard.

Starting at $3,200 installed

Stairlift Service Across Marion County

Marion County, OR

From the Craftsman bungalows and Colonial-style homes of Court-Chemeketa — the tree-lined blocks near the State Capitol where retired state employees have lived for decades, with original fir stairs, formal walnut banisters, and millwork that represents 40 years of careful maintenance — to the ranch homes and split-levels of South Salem, where the 1960s construction brought wider hallways but introduced the raised entries and mid-landing turns that create a different set of mobility barriers, our team has measured staircases across every Salem neighborhood.

We know which Grant neighborhood colonials from the 1920s have the half-landing turn that requires a curved rail. We know which Highland Cape Cods from the 1950s have the narrow doorway at the top of the stairs that needs a folding-rail option. And we know the Northeast Salem tracts where the 1940s-era workers' housing has steep, straight stairs with the same geometry that installs in under three hours every time.

Keizer, immediately north of Salem, adds its own pattern. The city grew rapidly in the 1970s through 1990s with ranch homes and two-story tract housing. The raised entries and garage-to-house transitions in Keizer's tract homes are our most common short-rise installs in Marion County. We keep the Keizer city building-department contacts on file for the rare cases where a dedicated circuit permit is needed.

1918 Court-Chemeketa Craftsman — original fir treads, moisture-spec motor

Court-Chemeketa, OR Installed March 2026

A 1918 Craftsman two blocks from the State Capitol with original fir treads and a formal staircase that a retired state administrator maintained for 38 years. Mrs. Halverson refused to alter the woodwork. We matched the rail finish to the original fir, installed the IP54-sealed motor housing, and bolted into the treads without touching a spindle. The rail is nearly invisible when parked at the upper landing.

Grant neighborhood colonial — curved rail threading past the original newel post at the upper landing

Grant, OR Installed February 2026

A 1932 colonial in the Grant neighborhood with a 90-degree half-landing turn and original walnut banisters that the family refused to alter. A straight rail was impossible. We laser-scanned during the first visit, fabricated a single curved rail that threads past the original newel post and follows the radius of the upper turn, and installed it in one afternoon. The chair parks flush at the upper landing and swivels 90 degrees so Mrs. Yamamoto's mother steps off onto the hallway floor, not the top tread. The rail finish matches the original walnut.

Grant neighborhood colonial — slim-profile rail on compact traditional staircase

Grant, OR Installed January 2026

A 1928 colonial in the Grant neighborhood with a compact traditional staircase — steep treads, a narrow passage, and an original walnut banister the Lunds wanted untouched. The slim-profile rail fits tight against the wall side, preserving full passage width on the banister side. We matched the rail hardware finish to the original walnut and mounted the chair so it parks flush at the bottom landing. Four months later, the Saturday dinner guests still haven't noticed the rail.

South Salem raised porch — marine-grade outdoor rail on rain-slick front steps

South Salem, OR Installed December 2025

A 1965 ranch in South Salem with a raised front porch and six concrete steps that grew moss every winter. Mr. Olsen is a retired Army NCO who qualified for a HISA grant through the Portland VA. We prefilled the VA form, coordinated by phone, and had authorization in five weeks. The outdoor rail anchors directly into the porch stone paving with stainless-steel expansion bolts, sealed with IP54 motor housing and marine-grade epoxy coating against the Willamette Valley rain. Two Oregon winters, zero service calls.

Highland Cape Cod — straight rail on carpeted treads with swivel-exit seat

Highland, OR Installed November 2025

A 1952 Cape Cod in Highland with 13 carpeted treads leading to the second-floor bedrooms and a narrow doorway at the top. Mrs. Patterson's primary concern was stepping off safely — the bedroom door opens directly onto the top tread. We bolted the straight rail through the carpet into the subfloor with extended-length lag bolts, added the swivel-exit seat that rotates 90 degrees at the upper landing, and installed the folding-rail option that tucks the track against the wall so the doorway stays clear. The carpet was not cut or damaged.

Platform Lift

Keizer raised ranch — wheelchair platform lift with yellow safety edges for garage-to-kitchen transition

Keizer, OR Installed October 2025

A 1982 raised ranch in Keizer where Mr. Davenport uses a power wheelchair after a spinal cord injury sustained during his Army service. The four steps between the garage entry and the kitchen had confined him to the garage-level rec room for eight months. His family contacted Northwest Senior and Disability Services and the Portland VA simultaneously. We installed a vertical wheelchair platform lift with high-visibility yellow pressure-sensitive safety edges on all four sides, an automatic folding ramp at the upper kitchen level, and a keyed lockout panel. The HISA grant covered the full cost. Mr. Davenport rolls from the garage to the kitchen independently for the first time since his discharge from the Portland VA rehab unit.

Common Questions

Everything Salem Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift actually cost in Marion County right now?

Straight rails in standard Salem homes — the Court-Chemeketa bungalows, the Grant colonials, the South Salem ranches — run $2,800 to $5,500 installed. Curved rails for Grant homes with half-landing turns and South Salem split-levels run $9,000 to $15,000. Outdoor models for rain-slick front steps and elevated entries run $4,000 to $7,500. Every quote is written, honored for 30 days, and includes installation, rail, seat, moisture-spec battery backup, and the first service visit.

Are prices different in Salem than Portland?

Equipment prices are the same across Oregon. What varies in Salem is the housing stock — pre-1940 Craftsman homes near the Capitol require more careful mounting than a 1990s Keizer tract home. The Willamette Valley moisture-spec hardware (IP54-sealed motor, anti-mold gaskets) is standard on every install. Line items are on the quote upfront. No surprise charges.

Is a used or refurbished stairlift worth considering?

For straight staircases, a certified refurbished unit can save 30-40% — we carry factory-reconditioned straight rails with new upholstery, new batteries, and a 2-year warranty. Every refurbished unit ships with the Willamette Valley moisture spec. For curved rails, refurbished almost never works because the rail is custom-built. Ask during the assessment.

What does the quote include — and what could add to the price?

Every written quote covers the lift unit, the rail, installation labor, battery backup, and your first service visit. What can raise the total: a folding-rail option for narrow doorways at the top of the stairs (common in Highland Cape Cods), a swivel-exit seat for safer step-off at the upper landing, or extended-length lag bolts for carpeted treads. Every add-on is itemized before you sign — nothing appears after the fact.

A word from Luis

Most Salem families call me after a quiet conversation that's been building for months — a parent who stopped going upstairs in October and still hasn't gone back, a spouse who fell on the front steps during the November rains, a son in Portland worried about his mother alone in a Court-Chemeketa colonial she's called home for 35 years.

My job is simple: drive to your house within 24 hours, measure once, and give you a price that's honored for 30 days. No pressure. No upsells.
