Our Coverage Area

Stairlift Service Across Wayne County

Wayne County, IN

Richmond's six National Register districts shape every install. Old Richmond (1830s–1850s Federal and Greek Revival on South 2nd–6th) has narrow treads that need a compact rail. Starr Historic District brings Italianate and Queen Anne homes with 11-foot ceilings and long straight runs. Reeveston Place (platted 1911) offers wider Craftsman stair halls. East Main Street / Millionaire's Row holds the longest straight-rail runs in the city, while the Pennsylvania Depot district and mid-century Crestdale split-levels round out our coverage. We also serve Centerville, seven miles west, and surrounding Wayne County.

Starr Historic District, IN Installed April 2026

An 1880s workers' cottage with stone-tile treads and a wooden sideboard at the foot of the stairs. The compact straight rail mounted to the treads, not the lathe-and-plaster wall, so the plaster stays intact. The brown seat tucks in beside the cabinet.

Common Questions

Everything Richmond Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a straight stairlift cost in Richmond, IN?

Straight models start at $2,800 installed for staircases up to about 16 feet, including the rail, seat, DC motor with battery backup, two remotes, and labor. No wall work or rewiring is required. Financing is available from $79/month.

Why do curved stairlifts cost more in Richmond?

Curved rails can't be stock items. Each is custom-bent from a laser-measured template of your exact staircase — common in Old Richmond's 1850s Federals and Reeveston's turned stair halls. Curved units start at $9,000; 90-degree turns typically run $10,000–$12,500.

Are there hidden costs on a Richmond install?

No. The quoted price is final and includes the rail, seat, motor, battery backup, installation labor, and a demo. The only optional extra is electrician work for a new outlet, which runs about $150–$200 if your stairs don't already have one nearby.

How much of a curved stairlift does the VA HISA grant cover?

The $6,800 HISA grant covers roughly two-thirds to three-quarters of a typical $9,000+ curved installation. The remaining balance can be paid out of pocket, financed from $79/month, or covered through Indiana PathWays for Aging.

A word from Luis

I have measured staircases in every historic district in Richmond — Old Richmond, Starr, Reeveston Place, East Main, the Pennsylvania Depot blocks. Every one can take a stairlift, but each needs a different approach. The 1850s Federals on South 2nd through 6th have tight quarter-turns; the Reeveston Craftsmans have wider stair halls that fit a straight rail in an afternoon.

That is why I do every assessment myself. I need to see the treads, check whether it is real oak or lathe-and-plaster nearby, and measure the turn before I quote. We bolt the rail to the treads, not your walls, so the original woodwork stays intact.
