Redondo Beach is a coastal South Bay city of about 6.21 square miles on Santa Monica Bay at roughly 62 feet elevation, with a warm-summer Mediterranean climate of mild winters and nearly rainless summers.

Redondo Beach's housing stock isn't loosening up; longtime owners near the bluffs aren't trading a $1.4 million home for a single story, they're staying, and those staircases are often tight enough that curved rail is the only option that fits. A good number of my customers work fixed shifts at Northrop Grumman, so call and I'll build your install date around that schedule, not mine.

What makes Redondo Beach different
Why a stairlift installed in Redondo Beach, CA is planned around the way this specific community lives, not stamped out from a one-size-fits-all template.
Redondo Beach has become one of the most housing-restrictive cities in Los Angeles County, with a median home value around $1.4 million and local resistance to state laws permitting duplexes and fourplexes on single-family lots; the 1930 Spanish/Dutch colonial Veterans Park Library is on the National Register of Historic Places.
Source ↗Northrop Grumman dominates Redondo Beach employment with roughly 6,045 workers (about 33% of the city total), followed by the Redondo Beach Unified School District; the median household income was $99,496.

Stairlift Service Across Los Angeles County
From the 1950s TRW Tract bungalows in North Redondo, where the reversed floor plan puts the kitchen and living room upstairs, the staircase is steep and narrow, and the rail has to be slim-profile to leave clearance for the homeowner's walker, to the wide-lot mid-century ranches of South Redondo along The Esplanade and the Riviera Village, where split-level entries and raised front porches are the norm, our team has mapped every staircase pattern in the city.

Hear It From Your Redondo Beach Neighbors
How stairlift projects tend to go for homeowners in Redondo Beach. Drag to scroll, or use the arrows and dots below.
We live in a 1954 TRW Tract bungalow with the upside-down floor plan: bedrooms downstairs, kitchen upstairs. Two companies told me a stairlift wouldn't fit in the narrow stairwell. Luis came out, measured, and had a slim-profile rail installed in three hours. My husband rides it to the kitchen every morning.
Our South Redondo split-level has the original 1959 oak banister and my first instruction was do not touch it. Luis scanned the staircase, fabricated a curved rail that threads past the banister without contact, and used stainless hardware because we're three blocks from the beach. The craftsmanship is outstanding.
Mom lives alone in the El Nido house she bought in 1972 and hadn't walked down the front steps since August. Luis put an outdoor rail on the entry stairs, sealed for the salt air, UV-coated, the works. She walked to her mailbox the next morning and called me crying.
I'm coordinating care for my father in North Redondo from my apartment in Portland. Luis did the assessment on FaceTime with me watching, every measurement, every cost, every option explained before I signed anything. Dad had his lift four days later.
Our Golden Hills house is one of those tall-and-skinny homes on a 25-foot lot. The staircase is steep and narrow, and everyone said it couldn't be done. Luis fit a compact seat that folds under 14 inches from the wall. Problem solved.
My dad retired from TRW in 1992 and still lives in the same North Redondo bungalow. He's a veteran and Luis handled the HISA paperwork, VA Form 10-0103, the prescription, everything. Approved in five weeks, installed three days later.

Everything Redondo Beach Homeowners Actually Ask
Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding, no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.
How much does a stairlift cost for a Redondo Beach home?
It comes down to whether the staircase is straight or curved. Redondo has plenty of older single-family homes with a straight interior run, which install faster and cost less than the curved-rail systems some of the bluff-front and split-level houses need. Given the median home value here is near $1.4 million, most customers care less about shaving equipment cost and more about a clean, permanent fit, and we quote after seeing the actual stairs, not over the phone.
Is there any way to offset the cost given how expensive real estate is here?
Yes. If you're on a Medi-Cal managed care plan through L.A. Care Health Plan, the Environmental Accessibility Adaptations benefit under Community Supports covers home modifications up to a $7,500 lifetime maximum. Call 1-855-427-1223 to check eligibility before you buy anything.
Does owning versus renting change what I can get funded?
It matters. Redondo's homeownership rate sits around 53%, and most of the modification grants on the table, including the LACDA Senior Grant Program up to $20,000, are written for owner-occupied homes, not rentals. Renters generally have to go through the landlord or lean on VA or Medi-Cal benefits instead.
How long does a stairlift install actually take?
A straight-rail job in one of the older single-family homes near the pier or the Riviera area usually takes half a day. Curved rail, more common on the multi-story homes up near the bluffs, takes longer because the rail is custom-built to that specific staircase, so it ships out after a template visit, not off a shelf.
Being only about 6 square miles, does that mean you can turn installs around fast?
It helps with scheduling, yes. I can usually get out to look at the stairs within a day or two of the call, template it, and come back once the rail is ready. The nearly rainless summers here also mean we almost never reschedule for weather, which isn't something installers in a lot of other markets get to say.
Will a stairlift damage an older or historic home?
No. The brackets mount into the treads, not the wall, so it works fine even in an older property. We've installed in homes built well before current code required wider stairwells, like some of the places near Veterans Park. The rail just follows the existing stringer.
Are there Los Angeles County programs that actually name stairlifts?
The LACDA Senior Grant Program covers mobility and habitability repairs up to $20,000, though the exact amount depends on the property's condition, so it's worth a call to (626) 586-1814 or (626) 586-1828 depending on your district, even though stairlifts aren't spelled out by name. The Medi-Cal HCBA Waiver covers environmental accessibility adaptations as a home-modification benefit with no fixed individual cost cap, but you'd need your case manager to confirm a stairlift is written into your plan of treatment.
What if I'm a veteran?
VA Specially Adapted Housing and Special Home Adaptation grants can fund home adaptations tied to a service-connected disability (SAH up to $126,526 and SHA up to $25,350 for FY2026), though the published guidance talks about ramps and doorway widening rather than naming stairlifts directly. In practice, a lift gets covered when it's part of an approved adaptation plan, so start with the VA benefits line at 1-877-827-3702.
Does In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS) pay for a stairlift?
No. IHSS, through L.A. County DPSS, pays for a caregiver's time (personal care, meal prep, that kind of help), not equipment or home modifications. If someone's counting on IHSS to cover a lift, that's the one program here that flatly won't.

I've templated a few staircases up near the bluffs where curved rail is the only option, since the layout just doesn't allow a straight track. Redondo's compact, just over six square miles end to end, so once someone calls I can usually get out to look at the stairs within a day or two. A good chunk of my customers here work at Northrop Grumman on fixed shift schedules, so install dates get built around that more than around my calendar.
