Stairlift Service Across Whitman County

Whitman County, WA

Pullman spreads across four named hills, each with its own housing stock. College Hill holds the National Register historic district — Craftsman bungalows and Tudor Revivals from 1910–1940, many with original narrow staircases and hardwood treads, the classic curved-rail job. Pioneer Hill, the oldest settled quadrant, mixes Craftsman cottages with mid-century ranch homes; Kruegel Park anchors the neighborhood. Military Hill in the northwest is quieter, with 1950s–70s split-levels near Pullman High School — two short flights where one straight rail usually covers the longer run. Sunnyside Hill has seen the most recent growth, with wider, straight staircases in homes from the 1990s onward, and Paradise Ridge adds newer builds on the upper slopes. Because we bolt the rail to the treads, even the narrowest College Hill stair keeps its walking width.

Straight

Straight Rail on Oak Treads — College Hill Craftsman

College Hill, WA Installed February 2026

The Petersons' 1918 Craftsman on College Hill has the original oak treads — dark, narrow, and irreplaceable. We used low-profile tread brackets to mount a beige straight rail without touching the banister. The seat parks at the bottom landing, folding to 12 inches when not in use. Three hours, five bolts, no drywall work.

Curved Rail at Upper Landing — Military Hill

Military Hill, WA Installed March 2026

A modern split-level on Military Hill with a 90-degree turn at the upper landing. The curved rail was laser-measured and factory-bent to match the exact rise and turn radius. Brown seat parks at the top floor, clearing the half-wall by 3 inches. The chandelier over the landing stayed in place — we worked around it.

Compact Straight Rail — Pioneer Hill Cottage

Pioneer Hill, WA Installed January 2026

A 1940s cottage on Pioneer Hill with stone-tread stairs and a tight floor plan. The staircase runs alongside a wooden sideboard — we mounted the brown straight rail to the treads with just 4 inches of clearance on the wall side. The seat stops at the bottom without blocking the hallway. Compact fit, no furniture moved.

Carpeted Stair Straight Rail — Sunnyside Hill

Sunnyside Hill, WA Installed April 2026

A 2000s build on Sunnyside Hill with 13 carpeted stairs leading to a tiled ground-floor landing. Brown seat and rail matched the beige carpet closely — the homeowners didn't want a visible contrast. Straight rail mounted to treads through the carpet pile. Quiet DC motor; the family reports they can't hear it from the living room.

Common Questions

Everything Pullman Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift cost in Pullman, WA?

A straight stairlift in Pullman starts at $2,800 installed. Curved rails start at $9,000 because the rail is custom-bent to your staircase after a 1-hour laser measurement on site. Outdoor lifts start at $4,000 with IP55 weather sealing for Palouse winters. Heavy-duty models that carry up to 600 lb start at $5,050. All prices include installation, the rail, the seat, and a 5-year warranty on the motor plus lifetime coverage on the rail. We don't charge extra for coming out to measure — the assessment is free.

Why are curved stairlifts more expensive in Pullman?

Because Pullman's older homes — especially on College Hill and Pioneer Hill — have staircases that turn at landings, narrow to 32 inches, and were built before standardized framing. Every curved rail starts with a 1-hour laser measurement on site. The rail is then bent at the factory to match your exact stair geometry: rise, run, turn radius, and landing pitch. No two curved rails are the same. The $9,000 starting price reflects that custom fabrication.

Does Medicare cover stairlift costs in Washington state?

No. Medicare Parts A and B do not cover stairlifts — they classify them as home modifications, not durable medical equipment. Medicare Advantage plans occasionally offer a home-modification allowance, but it's plan-specific and usually capped around $500–$1,000. The real funding path in Washington is either the COPES Medicaid waiver or the VA HISA grant.

What financing options are available for a stairlift in Whitman County?

We offer financing starting at $79/month through a third-party lender. Approval takes about 10 minutes and we can do it during the in-home assessment. For veterans, the VA HISA grant covers up to $6,800 for service-connected disabilities and up to $2,000 for non-service-connected — that's a one-time, tax-free grant, never repaid. Washington's COPES Medicaid waiver also covers home modifications including stairlifts for eligible seniors.

A word from Luis

Pullman is a four-hill town, and every hill builds houses differently. On College Hill I see 1910s Craftsman bungalows with original oak treads — gorgeous wood, but the staircases are 32 inches wide and the turns are tight. On Sunnyside Hill, the homes are newer but the split-level layouts mean two short flights instead of one long one. Each install starts with the same question: what's under the carpet, and how much room do we have at the landing?

The Palouse winter is the other factor people forget. We get hard freezes from October through April. Outdoor rail installs on homes up on Military Hill and Paradise Ridge need the IP55 weather-sealed kit with stainless hardware — ice, freeze-thaw, and that wind coming across the wheat fields will chew through anything less. I've done enough installs out here to know which rail coatings actually hold up.

For veterans in Whitman County, the Mann-Grandstaff VA Medical Center in Spokane processes HISA grants at the $6,800 level for service-connected disability. The drive to Spokane is about 75 miles, so I tell folks to call us first at (800) 965-0350 — we can help start the paperwork before you make the trip for the VA physician's prescription.

Your Next Step

Ready to get started? It's simple.

Pullman is a town where the stairs do the talking. Between the four hills, the century-old faculty homes, and the Palouse winters that ice over porch steps from November to March, a stairlift here isn't a luxury — it's how you stay in the house you've lived in for 30 years. We've put rails into Craftsman bungalows on College Hill, split-levels on Military Hill, and open-plan new builds on Sunnyside — every install different, every one bolted to the treads in about three hours.

If you're in Pullman, Moscow, Colfax, or anywhere in Whitman County, we'll come out and measure your stairs. No charge for the assessment. The rail gets built to fit your house, not a catalog template. Call or fill out the form — we'll get Luis to your door this week.
