Stairlift Service Across Santa Clara County

Santa Clara County, CA

Professorville is Palo Alto’s original historic district — early 20th-century craftsman bungalows and colonials where the stairlift conversation centers on preserving original redwood banisters and hardwood treads. Old Palo Alto, south of Oregon Expressway, has 1920s–1940s Tudors and Spanish colonials where equipment must be invisible when parked. Crescent Park, north of downtown, features large revival-style homes with formal interior staircases that often require curved rails.

The Eichler neighborhoods are a different install entirely. Greenmeadow and Green Gables — both on the National Register of Historic Places — are single-story mid-century tracts where the defining need is the carport-to-kitchen step, not an interior staircase. Charleston Meadows, Barron Park, Los Arboles, and Meadow Park follow the same pattern: single-story homes on slabs with three to five exterior concrete steps as the daily fall risk. We also cover Los Altos, Stanford, Mountain View, Menlo Park, and Atherton from the same crew — no travel surcharges.

1918 Professorville craftsman — rail color-matched to the original redwood banister

Professorville, CA Installed March 2026

A 1918 craftsman bungalow three blocks from the Stanford campus in the Professorville historic district. Dr. Chen has lived in the house since 1974 and insisted nothing look clinical. We color-matched the rail to the original redwood banister grain, bolted the straight track into the dark hardwood treads without touching a single spindle, and parked the beige seat at the bottom landing where it blends into the warm wood tones. A colleague from the Faculty Club visited two weeks later and did not notice the lift until Dr. Chen pointed it out.

1932 Old Palo Alto Tudor — curved rail through the walnut staircase with a 90° landing turn

Old Palo Alto, CA Installed February 2026

A 1932 Tudor Revival south of Oregon Expressway with a formal walnut staircase and a 90-degree turn at the mid-landing. Mrs. Harrington, 84, had been sleeping in the ground-floor study for four months after a hip replacement. We laser-scanned the full geometry, fabricated a curved rail that carries her from the entry hall through the mid-landing turn to the upper hallway, and parked the brown-upholstered seat at the top floor near the framed art and chandelier. The walnut balustrade and decorative ironwork — untouched. She slept in her own bedroom the night we finished.

Barron Park cottage — compact straight rail on stone treads beside the hallway credenza

Barron Park, CA Installed January 2026

A 1952 cottage on a large lot in Barron Park with stone-tread stairs and a tight hallway lined with a wooden sideboard and potted plants. Mrs. Petersen needed a rail that would not block the narrow passage to the kitchen. We mounted a compact straight rail on the stone risers, positioned the brown-upholstered seat at the bottom next to her sideboard, and kept the folding arms tight so the stairway stays open when the lift is parked. The traditional cottage interior is completely undisturbed.

Crescent Park colonial — outdoor rail on the stone-paved front porch entry

Crescent Park, CA Installed December 2025

A 1928 Colonial Revival near University Avenue in Crescent Park with a stone-paved front entry and raised porch steps. Mrs. Abernathy’s mother, 91, could no longer manage the rough natural stone between the driveway and the front door. We anchored a weather-resistant cream seat rail into the stone paving, sealed every bracket against Peninsula rain, and added a carpeted tread mat at the bottom landing. She rides from the driveway level to the covered porch and steps off at the front door — rain or shine.

Charleston Meadows split-level — straight rail on carpeted stairs to the bedroom landing

Charleston Meadows, CA Installed November 2025

A 1960 split-level in Charleston Meadows with carpeted stairs and a landing between the main floor and the bedrooms above. Mrs. Kovacs needed a rail that would not snag the carpet or clash with the neutral brown tones of the hallway. We bolted the track through the carpet into the stair substrate, matched the brown upholstery to the existing carpet color, and positioned the seat at the landing where it parks flat against the wall near the light switches. The tiled entry below stays clear for foot traffic.

Platform Lift

Greenmeadow Eichler — indoor wheelchair platform lift for a post-stroke resident

Greenmeadow, CA Installed October 2025

A 1954 Eichler in Greenmeadow where Mr. Reddy uses a wheelchair full-time after a stroke and cannot transfer to a seated stairlift. We installed an inclined wheelchair platform lift on the interior stairway between the garage level and the main living area. The flat black anti-slip platform has yellow high-visibility safety edges so Mr. Reddy can see the boundaries clearly, and the white handrail locks in place during the ride. He rolls his chair onto the platform at the bottom, rides up, and rolls off at the top — no transfer, no lifting, no assistance needed.

Common Questions

Everything Palo Alto Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift cost in Palo Alto right now?

Straight rails inside a standard two-story Professorville craftsman, an Old Palo Alto Tudor, or a Crescent Park colonial run $2,800 to $5,500 installed. Curved rails — common around original banisters in Professorville and the pre-war homes along Waverley, Bryant, and Cowper — run $9,000 to $15,000 because the rail is manufactured to your exact staircase geometry after a laser scan. Short outdoor carport-to-kitchen or driveway-to-porch rails for Eichler neighborhoods (Greenmeadow, Green Gables, Charleston Meadows, Barron Park) run $2,400 to $3,800. Every quote is written, honored for 30 days, CSLB-verifiable, and includes the rail, seat, battery backup, and the first service visit.

Are prices higher in Old Palo Alto or Crescent Park than in Barron Park?

Equipment prices are identical across the city — we do not inflate quotes for a 94301 or a Crescent Park address. What varies is install labor for unusual site conditions: an original 1920s banister in Professorville that the family will not allow us to touch (fine — we never do), a curved rail through a Tudor staircase on Waverley Street, or a dedicated 120V circuit in a pre-1930 home. Every line item is on the written quote before you sign. No Peninsula premium.

My Eichler in Greenmeadow is single-story. Do I even need a stairlift?

Probably not an interior stairlift — but the carport-to-kitchen steps are likely the daily fall risk we actually solve. Most Palo Alto Eichlers have three to five concrete steps between the attached carport and the kitchen door, and another two to three steps from the driveway to the front entry. These short outdoor runs are one of our most common Peninsula installs. Same weather-sealed motor, same battery backup, same CSLB-licensed installer — just a shorter rail. Installed in about two hours.

Do you charge extra for a multilingual consultation?

No. Luis is bilingual Spanish and English, so Spanish-language consultations are handled directly at zero surcharge. For Mandarin, Cantonese, and other languages we schedule a phone interpreter on the home assessment and again on the user-training session at no charge. Every printed quote and operating manual is available in Spanish, and the safety card on the chair can be printed in traditional Chinese or simplified Chinese on request.

A word from Luis

Palo Alto calls divide cleanly into two conversations. One is the Professorville or Old Palo Alto homeowner — a retired Stanford professor or a longtime Peninsula family — who lives in a 1920s craftsman or a 1930s Tudor and will not tolerate anything that looks like medical equipment in the front hall. The other is the Eichler homeowner in Greenmeadow or Charleston Meadows who has no interior staircase at all but needs the three concrete steps from the carport into the kitchen handled before the next fall.

My job is simple: be at your house inside 24 hours, laser-measure the stairs once, and leave you with a written quote that is honored for 30 days. No pressure, no upsells, no ‘Peninsula premium.’ CSLB-licensed under C-61/D-34, verify us at cslb.ca.gov. En español si lo prefiere.

Your Next Step

Ready to get started? It's simple.

Your free home assessment takes about 45 minutes. A CSLB-licensed installer walks your stairs with you — the 14-step interior run in a Professorville craftsman, the three carport-to-kitchen steps in a Greenmeadow Eichler, or the long flagstone path up to an Old Palo Alto front door — measures with a laser, answers every question about historic district review and Medi-Cal HCBA waiver timelines, and leaves you with a written quote honored for 30 days. No sales pitch. No pressure. No charge.
