Palm Bay is the most populous city in Brevard County and its largest by land mass at about 86 square miles, sitting at a flat 23 ft elevation with its historic section at the mouth of Turkey Creek and the Indian River Lagoon along its eastern side; newer development lies west of Interstate 95.

Palm Bay's older two-story homes near Turkey Creek, built under General Development Corporation's Port Malabar plan, are where stairs that used to be easy start keeping someone off their own upstairs, and a stairlift keeps them home instead of selling. Because so many homes here share those same GDC layouts, I can often tell what rail yours needs from the address, so call and get a real number before I walk in.

What makes Palm Bay different
Why a stairlift installed in Palm Bay, FL is planned around the way this specific community lives, not stamped out from a one-size-fits-all template.
Palm Bay's residential form was set by General Development Corporation, which from 1959 platted extensive tracts as the Port Malabar project and laid out and built many of the city's streets and single-family homes before its 1991 bankruptcy.

I bought this house in 1974 when I started at Kennedy Space Center. The stairs I ran up at 30 are the stairs I couldn't climb at 82. All American installed a straight rail in three hours and I slept upstairs that night for the first time since December. The installer said the concrete-block construction is built like a bunker, and he's right. I built things that went to space and this stairlift is better engineered than half of them.
Our Bayside Lakes HOA has a process for everything. I assumed the stairlift approval would take months. Luis sent the Fair Housing Act accommodation packet and the architectural submission to the board before I even asked. Approved in five days. The slim-profile rail looks like part of the house. My daughter in Tampa said she couldn't tell it was there until I pointed it out.
I'm a retired Air Force master sergeant who spent 24 years at Patrick. My wife fell in November and we needed the lift working before hurricane season. Luis measured Monday, installed Wednesday, and the battery was charged and tested by Friday. When Matthew hit in 2016 we were trapped upstairs for hours. That will never happen again.
I'm a Vietnam vet and the HISA paperwork had been sitting on my counter for six months. Luis prefilled VA Form 10-0103, walked it through the Viera clinic, and had approval in five weeks. They installed an outdoor lift on my raised entry with stainless fasteners for the lagoon salt air. It's been through a full hurricane season without a service call. Best-engineered piece of equipment on my property.
I live alone in Heritage Isle and the bonus room upstairs has 40 years of family photo albums. I hadn't been up there in a year. Luis submitted the HOA request, installed in three hours, and walked me through every button. I went upstairs, grabbed two albums, and sat on the sofa crying for an hour, happy tears. I'm going back for the rest this weekend.
Stairlift Service Across Brevard County
Port Malabar is where Palm Bay started: 1960s-1970s concrete-block ranches built slab-on-grade with interior staircases designed for Kennedy Space Center workers, not for the 80-year-olds those workers became. Standard straight rails handle most Port Malabar homes in under four hours. SE Palm Bay brings the 1980s wave with wider stairs and higher ceilings. NE Palm Bay is the 1990s-2000s growth corridor with two-story homes and modern stair geometry. Bayside Lakes is a master-planned HOA community with two-stories that require architectural approval, and we provide the documentation packet. Heritage Isle is a 55+ community of retired aerospace and defense workers where the HOA board recognizes our accommodation paperwork. Adjacent Viera has the VA Outpatient Clinic that processes HISA grants for Space Coast veterans.

Stairlift Types
Straight Stairlift
Bestseller
The workhorse of the Space Coast's ranch homes, from Port Malabar to Bayside Lakes. Over 80% of the stairlifts we install across Brevard County are this model. A single straight run, the rail bolts to your stair treads (never into the wall), the seat and footrest fold up out of the way, and the battery backup keeps you moving through the next hurricane power outage. Most Palm Bay installs wrap in under four hours.
What's Included
- Battery backup for power outages
- Swivel seat with safety lock
- Two wireless remote controls
- Soft start and soft stop motion
- Fold-up seat, arms, and footrest
- 10-year motor & gearbox warranty
Compared to Alternatives
vs Curved: 3x less expensive and installed in one visit. vs Home elevator: 10-15x less cost and no construction. vs Moving bedroom downstairs: Keeps your home exactly as it is.
Curved Stairlift
Custom-Built
Custom rails for landing turns in NE Palm Bay two-stories, split-level bonus rooms, and everything in between. When your staircase has a turn, a mid-landing, or a split, the rail has to be manufactured for your exact geometry. We laser-scan on the first visit, fabricate the curved rail (1-2 weeks), and install in a single afternoon. Common in the newer NE Palm Bay and Bayside Lakes two-stories where interior layouts include landing turns that make a straight rail impossible.
What's Included
- Free on-site digital measurement
- Single continuous curved rail
- Handles 90°, 180°, or spiral turns
- Powered swivel at top landing
- Park position out of the walkway
- 10-year warranty on all parts
Compared to Alternatives
vs Straight with landing break: One smooth ride instead of transferring seats. vs Home elevator: Half the cost, no construction permits, no shaft needed. vs Moving: A fraction of what selling and relocating costs.
Outdoor Stairlift
Weather-Tough
Salt air, hurricane wind, UV, and Florida humidity-ready, built for the Space Coast. Every component is sealed against humidity, UV-coated for year-round Florida sun, and the motor housing carries an IP55 rating. The stainless-steel fasteners are rated for Indian River Lagoon salt air, and every outdoor install in the flood zone gets wind-rated anchors into the concrete slab. Perfect for raised entries in Port Malabar, exterior steps across SE Palm Bay, and porch access in the older Brevard County neighborhoods.
What's Included
- Marine-grade weather cover
- All-weather corrosion protection
- Storm-rated anchor system
- Lockable key power switch
- Sealed IP54 control panels
- 5-year full-weather warranty
Compared to Alternatives
vs Standard stairlift outdoors: Won't rust, seize, or void its warranty. vs Exterior ramp: No permits, no concrete work, no lost yard. vs Home entry renovation: Installed in a single day.
Heavy-Duty Stairlift
400 lb Rated
When comfort and capacity matter more than the standard 300 lb limit. The reinforced frame handles up to 600 lbs with a 22-inch padded seat, wider than any standard model. Popular with Space Coast families caring for parents who need more space, and for post-surgery recovery (Health First Holmes Regional and Parrish Medical Center do high volumes of joint replacements across Brevard County) where full weight-bearing isn't yet safe. Installs in a single day with the same battery backup and 10-year warranty as our standard lineup.
What's Included
- 400 lb rated weight capacity
- 22-inch wide padded seat
- Reinforced dual-tube rail
- Extended footrest and armrests
- Weight-rated safety harness
- 10-year motor & frame warranty
Compared to Alternatives
vs Standard stairlift: Extra capacity and wider seat for maximum comfort. vs Custom furniture lift: A fraction of the price with faster install. vs Home elevator: Much lower cost with the same weight confidence.

Everything Palm Bay Homeowners Actually Ask
Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding, no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.
What's a stairlift going to cost in a typical Palm Bay home?
Most of Palm Bay's housing came out of the Port Malabar tracts GDC platted starting in 1959, and a good number of those are one-story homes where a stairlift isn't even part of the picture. It's usually an entry ramp or step-lift question instead. Where there is an interior staircase, especially in the older two-story homes near the historic Turkey Creek section, it's typically a single straight run, which is the least expensive configuration to fit since there's no curved rail to fabricate. Palm Bay's affordability band runs mid-range for the area, and most of my Palm Bay customers ask about financing or one of the funding programs below before committing to a number.
Does a raised or split-level Palm Bay home cost more to fit?
Sometimes. Palm Bay sits at a flat 23 feet of elevation with no real hills, so the "extra cost" driver here isn't grade, it's the layout. Some of the older GDC-era homes near Indian River Lagoon have split-level or raised-entry designs with a short interior flight plus a longer one, and that can mean a longer rail or, in rarer cases, two shorter units instead of one. I always do a walk-through before quoting a Palm Bay job for that reason, since floor plan matters more than square footage here.
How fast can you get a stairlift installed in Palm Bay?
For the straight single-flight staircases that make up most of Palm Bay's older two-story housing, install day usually wraps in a few hours, since the rail bolts into the stair treads themselves and there's no wall framing involved. Newer construction west of I-95 tends to have more open floor plans, so those jobs go just as fast once we've confirmed the stair dimensions on a pre-install visit.
Is a stairlift installation different in a GDC-platted home versus newer construction?
Not dramatically, but the older Port Malabar homes GDC built before its 1991 bankruptcy tend to have narrower stair widths than what's built west of I-95 today, so I check tread depth and bottom-landing clearance more carefully on those. Homes near the flood-prone lowlands by Turkey Creek occasionally have elevated first floors, which can mean an outdoor or entry-level lift is a better fit than an interior stair unit. That's something we sort out on-site, not over the phone.
Does Florida Medicaid cover a stairlift for a Palm Bay resident?
It can, through the Statewide Medicaid Managed Care Long-Term Care (SMMC LTC) program. Call 1-800-963-5337 to ask. The state benefit lists "Home Modifications - For accessibility" without naming stairlifts by name, and coverage decisions get made plan-by-plan through your individual care plan with whichever managed care organization you're enrolled in, so the honest answer is you have to ask your specific plan, not assume yes or no.
Is there a local Brevard County program that helps with home modifications?
The Senior Resource Alliance's Aging Matters in Brevard runs a Housing Improvements Program, reachable at 321-631-2744, funded through Older Americans Act Title III money, United Way of Brevard, and Brevard County BOCC dollars. Their listed adaptations are grab bars, ramps, "chair platforms," bed rails, and minor plumbing/electrical/carpentry repairs, and it's sliding-scale rather than a fixed grant amount, so a full stairlift isn't explicitly named among what they cover. It's worth a call to confirm current scope before you rule it out.
My spouse is a veteran, does the VA pay for a stairlift in Palm Bay?
The VA's HISA grant specifically excludes stairlifts: the program's own exclusion list names "porch lifts, and stair glides" as items it won't fund, even though HISA can pay up to $6,800 lifetime for service-connected veterans or $2,000 for others on different structural work. A stairlift itself is more commonly funded through the VA Prosthetics benefit when a physician prescribes it medically, which doesn't carry the same dollar cap. Call 1-877-222-8387 to ask which path applies to your situation.

Most of the calls I get from Palm Bay are from the older two-story pockets near Turkey Creek, or from people who bought a GDC-built home decades ago and are now dealing with a staircase that was fine at 40 and isn't at 75. L3Harris is the big employer on this side of the Space Coast. A lot of my clients here retired from there or from Palm Bay Hospital, and they know exactly what they want before I even walk in the door. Because so much of the housing here follows the same handful of Port Malabar layouts, I can usually tell what kind of rail a house needs just from the address.
