Stairlift Service Across Cape May County

Cape May County, NJ

Ocean City is a seven-mile barrier island where the living floor is almost always a full staircase above ground. The Gardens at the north end has elevated-piling homes with steep exterior staircases. The Historic District from 3rd to 8th Streets holds over 160 Victorian-era properties with narrow, winding interior stairs. The Gold Coast from 18th to 34th features split-level beachfront homes with open staircases. On the bay side, the Riviera between 16th and 23rd has waterfront homes with outdoor stairs in salt air year-round. Bay Landings south of 27th offers newer construction — elevated main floors, full staircases still standard. The South End near Corson's Inlet mixes older cottages with modern raised homes.

Gardens Home Gets Straight Rail on Oak Interior Stairs

Gardens, NJ Installed February 2026

The Pattersons live in the Gardens in a 1990s cedar-shake home with a polished dark-oak interior staircase to the main living floor. After Mrs. Patterson's hip surgery, the climb became unsafe. We bolted a straight rail to the oak treads in 3½ hours — drywall untouched. The cream seat parks at the bottom landing, and she now rides up to the kitchen and bedrooms without help.

1892 Historic District Victorian Gets Custom Curved Rail

Historic District, NJ Installed March 2026

The Vincents own an 1892 Victorian on 5th Street in the Historic District. Their staircase makes a tight 90-degree turn at the upper landing — a standard straight rail would not work. After a one-hour laser measurement, we bent a custom curved rail that follows the turn exactly. Installed in one day, the rail hugs the wall so the narrow stairway still feels open and the seat parks up top.

Gold Coast Condo with Uneven Stone Treads Gets Leveled Rail

Gold Coast, NJ Installed January 2026

The Romeros live in a compact older Gold Coast condo on Ocean Avenue with stone-tile treads and a wooden sideboard at the base of the stairs. The treads sit at uneven heights — common in 1980s Shore construction — so we used adjustable brackets to level the rail. The brown seat parks at the bottom next to the sideboard. Three hours, no drilling into the drywall.

Riviera Bayfront Home Gets Marine-Grade Outdoor Lift

Riviera, NJ Installed May 2025

The Buchanans' Riviera bayfront home has exterior stairs from the dock-level entry to the main deck — 14 steps of rough stone, fully exposed to salt spray and nor'easter winds. We installed an IP55-rated outdoor straight lift with marine-grade hardware and a cream weather-sealed seat. The rail has been through two hurricane seasons of salt air without a fault.

Bay Landings Carpeted Stairs Get Hidden-Bracket Install

Bay Landings, NJ Installed November 2025

The Kowalskis' Bay Landings home on Bluefish Lagoon has carpeted stairs leading up to the elevated first floor. Mrs. Kowalski has arthritis and was starting to skip doctor appointments rather than face the climb. We installed a straight rail into the carpeted treads — the mounting brackets sit below the carpet, so nothing snags. The brown seat tones match the carpet, and it runs off a battery backup for storm outages.

South End Wheelchair User Gains Full-Home Access

South End, NJ Installed August 2025

The Hendersons live near Corson's Inlet in the South End. Mr. Henderson uses a wheelchair full-time after a stroke, and their two-story cottage had no way up. We installed an indoor inclined platform lift — flat black deck, yellow safety edges, white handrail, 600-lb capacity. It carries him and his chair up the full flight. No structural changes to the home.

Common Questions

Everything Ocean City Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift cost in Ocean City, NJ?

A straight stairlift in Ocean City starts at $2,800 installed. Curved lifts, which need custom rail fabrication, start around $9,000. Outdoor lifts for exterior stairs — very common on the island's elevated homes — start at $4,000 with marine-grade weather sealing. Heavy-duty lifts rated for 600 lb start at $5,050. The final price depends on stair length, number of turns, and whether the install is interior or exterior. We give a firm quote after the free in-home assessment — no surprises, no add-on fees.

Does the barrier island environment affect stairlift pricing?

It can. Many Ocean City homes sit on elevated pilings, so exterior staircases are common. Outdoor installations need IP55-rated components and marine-grade materials to handle salt air, nor'easter winds, and coastal humidity. These units cost more than indoor lifts but last 10-15 years with proper maintenance. The same goes for bayfront homes in the Riviera and other bay-side neighborhoods where salt corrosion is a factor year-round.

Does Medicare or private insurance cover stairlift costs in New Jersey?

Original Medicare does not cover stairlifts — they're classified as home modifications, not durable medical equipment. Some Medicare Advantage plans in New Jersey do offer a home modification benefit; we recommend checking with your plan directly. Private long-term-care insurance policies often cover stairlifts if a doctor prescribes one. We help Ocean City residents check their policy language during the free in-home assessment.

What financing options are available for Ocean City residents?

We offer financing starting at $79/month with approved credit — no prepayment penalty and no balloon payment. Many Ocean City families combine financing with one of New Jersey's home modification programs: MLTSS for Medicaid-eligible residents, JACC for seniors just above the Medicaid threshold, or the VA HISA grant for veterans. We walk you through which programs apply to your situation.

A word from Luis

The barrier island changes the whole conversation about stairlifts. On the mainland, a stairlift is something you think about when arthritis or a fall makes the stairs too hard. Here in Ocean City, the stairs are the first thing you see when you pull up to the house — they're steep, they're exterior, and they're unavoidable. In the Gardens and along the Gold Coast, I'd say nine out of ten homes I visit have the main living floor a full story above the garage or ground-level entry.

The Historic District between 3rd and 8th is its own world. Those Victorian homes from the 1880s have interior staircases that are narrow, dark, and they all seem to have an odd turn at the landing. You can't just drop a prefab rail in there. We laser-measure every one and have the rail bent to match. I've done enough of them now that I can usually tell by looking at the staircase whether it was built before or after 1900.

What I tell every family I meet here is the same thing: the salt air will eat a cheap outdoor unit in two seasons. That's why we only install marine-grade outdoor lifts on exterior stairs. On a bayfront home in the Riviera or a raised beach house in the South End, you need components rated for continuous salt exposure. The lift I put on a Riviera dock-access staircase three years ago has been through nor'easters, tropical storm remnants, and January freeze cycles — still runs like the day we installed it.

— Luis Ramírez, Ocean City
Your Next Step

Ready to get started? It's simple.

Ocean City is different from any mainland town. The barrier island geography means nearly every home — whether it's an 1880s Victorian in the Historic District or a raised home in Bay Landings — has stairs separating the entry from the living space. For a population where one in three year-round residents is over 65, that geometry becomes more than inconvenient — it becomes the difference between staying in the home you love and moving off the island entirely.

We've installed stairlifts from the Gardens to Corson's Inlet, on interior oak staircases and exterior salt-air steps alike. Every install starts with a free in-home assessment — Luis comes to your home, measures your stairs, and gives you a firm quote before you commit to anything. Call us or fill out the form on this page to schedule yours. No pressure, no sales pitch — just a real conversation about what will work for your home.
