Our Coverage Area

Stairlift Service Across Essex County

Essex County, NJ

Nutley's neighborhoods spread east from the Passaic River across the Third River valley. Avondale and Radcliffe on the west side are dense with 1920s–1940s colonials — straight stairs, 32–34 inches wide, ideal for our Slimline rail. Sleepy Hollow near the Clifton border has mid-century homes, some with curved staircases at the entry. Kingsland Manor around the historic 1768 manor house includes pre-war homes with steep, narrow stairwells needing custom measurement. The Enclosure Historic District off Passaic Avenue has some of Nutley's oldest homes, where we bolt rails to treads without touching historic sandstone. Franklin Avenue District townhomes near the shops often have split-level entries requiring a curved rail. We serve all of Nutley and reach Belleville, Bloomfield, and Lyndhurst within 15 minutes.

Original Oak Treads in a 1938 Avondale Colonial

Avondale, NJ Installed March 2026

The Kowalskis' 1938 colonial on Harrison Street has original oak treads, darkened from 80 years of use. Mrs. Kowalski, 76, stopped using the upstairs bathroom because the stairs were too steep. Luis mounted a straight rail to the treads in three hours — the oak took the bolts cleanly, no splitting. The beige seat parks at the bottom landing, out of the hallway path. She's been using it every morning since.

90-Degree Turn Under a Brass Chandelier in Radcliffe

Radcliffe, NJ Installed February 2026

The Patels' 1960s home on Highland Avenue has a 90-degree turn at the upper landing under a brass chandelier. After a 1-hour laser measurement, the curved rail was bent in-factory to match the turn exactly. The brown seat parks at the top floor landing — Mrs. Patel, recovering from hip surgery, can now reach all three bedrooms without help. The rail hugs the wall tight, leaving the chandelier untouched.

Stone-Tile Treads in a Sleepy Hollow Cottage

Sleepy Hollow, NJ Installed April 2026

The Giordanos' compact 1955 home on Ravine Drive has tile-over-concrete treads, with a 1960s walnut sideboard tucked at the base of the stairs. The brown seat parks right beside it. Luis used masonry drill bits for the tread anchors, then capped every bolt with matching brown covers. The rail runs straight up 13 tight steps to the den-turned-bedroom. Mrs.

Bluestone Porch Steps in Kingsland Manor

Kingsland Manor, NJ Installed May 2026

The O'Briens' stone-paved front porch on Kingsland Street has six steps up from the walkway — rough-hewn bluestone, uneven from 90 years of freeze-thaw cycles. The outdoor lift, IP55 weather-sealed with a marine-grade rail, handles Nutley's wet winters and road-salt spray without corroding. The cream seat parks at the porch door, and Mr.

Carpeted 1924 Staircase in the Enclosure Historic District

Enclosure Historic District, NJ Installed January 2026

The Hendersons' 1924 colonial on Calico Lane, inside the Enclosure Historic District, has tight carpeted stairs — 31 inches wide with a sharp base turn. No wall drilling allowed per historic-district rules. Luis bolted the straight rail through the carpet into the original pine treads underneath, then trimmed the carpet around each bracket. The brown seat blends with the beige Berber; you barely notice the rail from the living room.

Wheelchair Platform in a Franklin Avenue Townhome

Franklin Avenue District, NJ Installed March 2026

Mr. Washington uses a wheelchair after a stroke. His Franklin Avenue townhome has a straight 14-step staircase — too narrow for a ramp. Luis installed the inclined platform lift with the flat black deck and yellow safety edges. The platform folds up against the wall when not in use, leaving 22 inches of stair clearance for his wife. The 600 lb capacity handles his chair and a caregiver beside it.

Common Questions

Everything Nutley Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a straight stairlift cost in Nutley?

From $2,800 including measurement, rail, seat, and installation. Most Nutley colonials take about three hours — the rail bolts to the treads, no wall work. The price includes battery backup, which matters during the winter storms that knock out power in Essex County.

What does a curved stairlift cost in Nutley?

From $9,000. The rail is custom-bent to your stair turn after a one-hour laser measurement on site. Common in Nutley homes with split-level entries off Franklin Avenue and mid-century builds in Sleepy Hollow with curved staircases. Lead time is about two weeks for fabrication.

Is financing available for Nutley residents?

Yes — from $79/month with no prepayment penalty. We also walk you through the NJ MLTSS Medicaid program and JACC (Jersey Assistance for Community Caregiving) if you qualify. JACC covers home modifications for Essex County seniors 60 and older at nursing-home level of care, up to $1,090/month in services.

Does insurance cover a stairlift in Nutley?

Medicare typically does not cover stairlifts. However, NJ MLTSS (Managed Long Term Services and Supports), the state's Medicaid program, covers residential modifications including stairlifts when medically necessary. JACC, a state-funded program for seniors 60+, also covers home modifications up to a $1,090/month cap. We help with the paperwork at the assessment.

A word from Luis

Most Nutley homes I work in were built between 1910 and 1950 — center-hall colonials with a staircase running straight up the middle. Over in Avondale and Radcliffe, the stairs are tight. Thirty-four inches wide, sometimes less. A straight rail bolts right to the treads, no wall work needed, and the whole thing takes about three hours.

We've put lifts into homes in the Enclosure district where the sandstone steps are 200 years old — you don't touch the stone, the rail mounts to the wood treads above. For families off Kingsland Street near Kingsland Park, I can usually get there the same week they call. The winters here are real — I always recommend battery backup for the storms that knock out power in Essex County two or three times a year.

Your Next Step

Ready to get started? It's simple.

A stairlift isn't a renovation — it's a three-hour bolt-on that gives your parents back the upstairs. In Nutley, where most homes have one staircase and one bathroom on the second floor, that's not a luxury; it's the difference between staying in the house and moving out.

From the Enclosure Historic District to Sleepy Hollow, we've installed on every type of stair these neighborhoods throw at us — 28-inch-wide colonials, curved split-levels, outdoor stone porches, and carpeted mid-century builds. Call Luis for a free in-home assessment. Same-week installs available in Nutley and all of Essex County.
