Stairlift Service Across St. Joseph County

St. Joseph County, IN

From the Craftsman bungalows of Battell Park — built between 1910 and 1935, with steep narrow staircases and original oak treads that crack if you mount a rail wrong — to the postwar split-levels of Twin Branch, where split-entry foyers have four steps down and six steps up, our team has measured staircases in every Mishawaka neighborhood. We know which Liberty colonials from the 1950s need a curved rail for the 90° half-landing turn. We know which Merrifield Park raised entries become impassable after hip surgery. We've threaded compact rails through low-clearance archways in Downtown Mishawaka rowhomes near Main Street. We also cover Granger, Osceola, and Roseland for same-day consultations.

1921 Battell Park Craftsman — rail finish-matched to original fir treads

Battell Park, IN Installed March 2026

A 1921 Craftsman bungalow in Battell Park with steep original fir stairs, plaster walls, and a banister the family has waxed every year since they moved in. We brought finish samples on the first visit, matched the rail color to the century-old fir, and bolted the track into the hardwood treads without touching the plaster or the original spindles. When parked at the bottom landing, the seat folds flat against the wall. Mrs. Koslowski's book club has visited twice since install and nobody asked about it.

Liberty colonial — curved rail around the half-landing with seat parked at the upper floor

Liberty, IN Installed February 2026

A 1952 colonial in the Liberty neighborhood with a 90-degree half-landing turn and original walnut banisters the family has maintained for decades. The curved rail bends around the half-wall at the upper landing, and the seat parks on the second floor so Mrs. Walczak's mother steps off directly onto the upstairs hallway. We laser-scanned the staircase, fabricated a single continuous curved rail that carries around the turn without touching the newel post, and installed it in one afternoon. The modern interior — chandelier above, framed art on the stairway wall — looks exactly as it did before the lift went in.

Downtown Mishawaka rowhome — compact straight rail beside vintage sideboard

Downtown Mishawaka, IN Installed January 2026

A 1930s rowhome near Main Street with stone-finish treads and a narrow stairwell — a vintage wooden sideboard with a potted fern sits at the base of the stairs, and the family refused to move it. We measured clearance to the inch and ran the straight rail tight to the opposite wall so the seat clears the cabinet with room to spare. The compact space, traditional finishes, and cottage-like feel of the home are all intact. Mrs. Pietrzak uses it multiple times daily and the narrow hallway still functions exactly as it did before.

Merrifield Park raised entry — outdoor lift on stone-paved porch steps

Merrifield Park, IN Installed December 2025

A Merrifield Park home with seven concrete front steps topped with natural stone pavers that became dangerous after the first ice storm every year. Mr. Adamczyk is an Army veteran who qualified for the VA HISA grant through the Fort Wayne VA. We anchored the outdoor rail into the stone-paved entry with stainless-steel fasteners, sealed the cream-colored seat and motor housing to IP55 for northern Indiana's freeze-thaw cycles, and weather-coated every exposed component. The stone paving at the base of the steps was left untouched. Mr. Adamczyk rides from his covered front porch down to the driveway independently, even after a hard freeze.

Twin Branch split-level — straight rail on carpeted stairs with landing

Twin Branch, IN Installed November 2025

A 1968 Twin Branch split-level with 11 carpeted treads and a landing at the top where Mrs. Ostrowski had slipped twice the previous winter. The brown carpet covers the stairs and matches the seat upholstery almost exactly. We bolted the rail brackets through the carpet into the wood subfloor without cutting or lifting a single section — if the lift is ever removed, the small anchor points vanish beneath the carpet pile. Wall-mounted light switches along the stairway stayed in place. Mrs. Ostrowski now rides from the tiled entry at the bottom to the carpeted landing at the top and steps off onto flat floor.

Platform Lift

Battell Park — indoor wheelchair platform lift with yellow safety edges

Battell Park, IN Installed October 2025

A 1924 Craftsman in Battell Park where Mr. Nowak, a retired steelworker, uses a power wheelchair after a spinal cord injury and cannot transfer to a seated stairlift. We installed an indoor inclined wheelchair platform lift with a flat black anti-slip deck, bright yellow high-visibility safety edges along the platform perimeter, and a white handrail. The platform rides along the indoor stairway past the window and the orange-toned plaster walls of the original home. Mr. Nowak rolls his chair onto the platform, grips the handrail, and rides between floors without assistance. The HISA grant through the Fort Wayne VA covered $6,800 of the cost.

Common Questions

Everything Mishawaka Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift actually cost in Mishawaka right now?

Straight rails in standard Mishawaka homes — Battell Park bungalows, Twin Branch colonials, Merrifield Park ranches — run $2,800 to $5,500 installed. Curved rails, needed in Liberty neighborhood colonials with half-landing turns and in the older Battell Park homes with irregular stair geometry, run $9,000 to $15,000 because the rail is custom-manufactured to your exact staircase. Outdoor models for raised front porches and icy entry steps run $4,000 to $7,500. Every quote is written, honored for 30 days, and includes installation, rail, seat, cold-weather battery, and the first service visit.

Are Mishawaka prices different from South Bend?

Equipment prices are the same across St. Joseph County. What differs slightly is install labor for Battell Park's older housing stock — pre-1930 Craftsman homes with narrow treads, plaster walls, and original millwork require more careful technique than a 1980s two-story in Granger. That difference appears as a line item on your written quote, not as a surprise after the work is done.

Can I use a refurbished stairlift to save money?

For standard straight staircases — the Twin Branch split-levels and most Merrifield Park ranches — a factory-reconditioned unit saves 30-40%. We carry certified refurbished straight rails with new upholstery, new cold-weather LiFePO4 batteries, and a 2-year warranty. For curved rails, refurbished isn't viable because curved rails are custom-fabricated for each staircase. Ask during the assessment whether refurbished is a fit for your home.

Are there any hidden costs for Mishawaka's older homes?

Our quote covers everything: rail, seat, install labor, cold-weather battery, and the first service visit. The one occasional addition in the Battell Park and Downtown Mishawaka neighborhoods is a dedicated electrical circuit when the existing outlet near the staircase is on an undersized panel — common in pre-1940 homes still running 60-amp service. We identify this at the assessment and quote it separately. A new circuit runs $200-$400, handled by our licensed electrician.

A word from Luis

Mishawaka sits right next to South Bend but it has its own housing personality. Battell Park is one of the best-preserved early-20th-century residential neighborhoods in Indiana — original hardwood, plaster walls, steep narrow stairs that nobody who built them in 1915 ever imagined someone would need a lift on. Twin Branch is postwar suburbia: wider stairs, more headroom, but often split-level entries that catch people off guard after surgery.

I drive out to both neighborhoods the same day you call. Forty-five minutes on-site, laser measurements, written quote honored for 30 days. You tell me when you're ready.

— Luis Ramírez, Mishawaka
