Straight Stairlift

The workhorse of the Minneapolis bungalow — built for South Minneapolis streetcar-era homes.

Most stairlifts we install in Minneapolis are straight rails. The track bolts to your stair treads — never into the wall or the banister — the seat and footrest fold up out of the way, and the cold-pack battery backup keeps you moving through winter power outages and polar vortex events.

Starting at $3,250 installed

Stairlift Service Across Hennepin County

Hennepin County, MN

The defining house in Minneapolis is the 1.5-story bungalow — built in waves from the 1920s through the 1940s, still the dominant housing stock across Nokomis, Longfellow, Fulton, Armatage, and Tangletown. The layout repeats: main floor, narrow stair run to a half-story attic. Straight rails handle the main run; a second compact lift to the attic is common.

Kenwood and Lowry Hill hold pre-war Prairie School and Tudor Revival mansions around the Walker Art Center and Lake of the Isles — curved rails, preservation-minded owners, original millwork we never touch. The North Loop is converted warehouse loft territory with high-ceiling straight runs and HOA board approvals. In Whittier, Powderhorn, and the Wedge, pre-war walkups and duplex conversions mean internal stairs inside individual units. Linden Hills along Lake Harriet is premium pre-war stock with heavy preservation expectations.

1926 Nokomis bungalow — rail bolted into the original oak treads

Nokomis, MN Installed March 2026

A 1926 South Minneapolis bungalow two blocks off Lake Nokomis with original quarter-sawn oak stair treads and a 13-step run to the second floor. Mrs. Halvorsen had recovered from a hip replacement at Abbott Northwestern and her physical therapist recommended a lift before the November freeze. We bolted the rail into the existing treads without touching the 100-year-old oak banister, mounted the chair so it folds flush against the wainscoting when parked, and walked her through the remote. Cold-pack battery tested to -30°F before we left.

Curved

Curved rail threaded past a 1912 Prairie School newel post in Kenwood

Kenwood, MN Installed February 2026

A 1912 Prairie School home three blocks from the Walker Art Center with a 90-degree landing turn and an original carved newel post the family absolutely refused to alter. We digitally laser-scanned the entire staircase at the first visit, fabricated a curved rail that threads past the newel with a half-inch clearance, and installed in a single afternoon. The chair swivels 90 degrees at the upper landing so Mrs. Lindgren steps off onto the hallway runner, not the top tread. The original millwork is untouched.

Compact straight rail in a 1940s Tangletown cottage with stone treads

Tangletown, MN Installed January 2026

A 1940s Tangletown cottage south of Lake Harriet with original stone-and-tile stair treads and a compact 11-step run from the living room to the upper bedrooms. The staircase sits next to a wooden sideboard the family uses as a phone table — tight space, no room for error. We mounted the slim-profile rail on the tread side, anchored into the stone, and positioned the seat so it parks folded against the wall just past the sideboard. The cottage feel is unchanged. Mrs. Kowalski runs the lift four times a day.

Outdoor entry lift on stone paving at a Longfellow raised bungalow porch

Longfellow, MN Installed December 2025

A 1931 Longfellow bungalow a few blocks from the Mississippi River with a raised front porch and original stone-paved entry steps. Mrs. Bergstrom's husband could no longer manage the uneven stone from the sidewalk to the front door after his Parkinson's advanced. We mounted a weather-resistant cream-colored seat on the outdoor rail, anchored into the stone paving, and sealed every housing against Minnesota freeze-thaw. Drainage channels route meltwater away from the track so it does not pool and re-freeze overnight. Cold-pack battery rated to -30°F, tested before we left.

Carpeted stair run at a Linden Hills pre-war home near Lake Harriet

Linden Hills, MN Installed November 2025

A pre-war Linden Hills home near Lake Harriet with 14 carpeted stair treads running from the tiled front entry up to the landing. The brown carpet matched the earth tones throughout the home, and Mrs. Carlson wanted the lift to blend in rather than stand out. We mounted the rail through the carpet into the treads beneath, selected brown upholstery that matches the carpet tone almost exactly, and parked the seat at the lower landing near the hall light switches. The tiled entry floor stays clear. Rides through the full winter without a service call.

Indoor wheelchair platform lift with safety edges in a Powderhorn duplex

Powderhorn, MN Installed October 2025

The Reyes daughter uses a power wheelchair and needed indoor access between the main floor and upper level of a Powderhorn duplex. We installed an inclined wheelchair platform lift — not a seated stairlift — with a flat anti-slip platform and high-visibility yellow safety edges along the deck. White handrail on the wall side, fold-up platform so the stairway stays clear for other residents. The entire consultation was conducted in Spanish. She operates it independently every day.

Common Questions

Everything Minneapolis Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift actually cost in Minneapolis right now?

Straight rails in a standard South Minneapolis bungalow run $2,800 to $5,500 installed. Curved rails — common in Kenwood, Lowry Hill, and Linden Hills pre-war homes with landing turns — run $9,000 to $15,000 because the rail is manufactured to your staircase geometry. Outdoor stoop lifts for raised bungalow entries run $4,500 to $8,000 and include the drainage channels and cold-pack battery standard on every Minneapolis outdoor install. Every written quote includes installation, rail, seat, cold-pack battery backup, and the first service visit.

Does the cold-pack battery cost extra in Minneapolis?

No. Every Minneapolis install ships with -30°F cold-pack batteries as a baseline spec — not an upgrade, not a line item. Standard stairlift batteries fail in a single Minnesota winter when the lift is in a garage, three-season porch, or unheated stairwell. We build the cold-pack spec into every quote because the alternative is a service call in February.

Any hidden fees for North Loop lofts or condo buildings?

Our quote includes the HOA paperwork we handle for you — we have pre-templated engineering drawings, certificates of insurance, and board submission packets for most major North Loop and downtown Minneapolis condo associations. What can rarely add cost is when a building requires its own structural engineer's letter. If that happens, we tell you before we start, not after.

Do you offer financing if I don't qualify for a grant?

Yes. Three lending partners with 0% APR for qualified buyers and low fixed-rate plans from $79 per month. Application is a soft credit pull (no hit to your score), takes about 4 minutes, and approval is usually instant. Many Minneapolis families combine financing with the Minnesota Housing Fix Up Loan (unsecured up to $25,000, 651-296-7608) to bring the monthly payment down further. We walk through the math during the free assessment.

A word from Luis

Minneapolis homeowners call me for two reasons — the stairs have become unsafe, or winter just reminded them they're not as fast as they used to be. After a polar vortex knocks out power for 48 hours, suddenly everyone starts thinking about what it means to be stuck upstairs.

I've been doing this across the Twin Cities since 2010. Pre-war Kenwood mansions with original Prairie School newel posts, 1920s South Minneapolis bungalows with oak treads and half-story attic runs, North Loop loft conversions that need HOA board approval before we even schedule. I've handled all of it. I show up within 24 hours, laser-measure once, and give you a written quote honored for 30 days.

Every Minneapolis install ships with cold-pack batteries rated to -30°F as a baseline spec — not an upgrade, not an add-on. Minnesota winters are not a variable I leave to chance. If you'd rather do this in Spanish, that's how we do it.
