Stairlift Service Across Lake County

Lake County, SD

Madison stairlift installs span the Madison Historic District along Egan Avenue, where 1890s Victorians and Dutch Colonials have the oak treads and tight landings that often call for curved rails. Around Lake Madison and Peninsula Point, the lakefront homes — many owned by retirees — frequently need outdoor lifts for the slope from driveway to dock. The DSU campus neighborhood has a mix of early-1900s faculty houses and compact postwar builds with narrower staircases. South of Highway 34, the Country Club area and newer subdivisions are mostly ranch-style homes with wider, carpeted straight stairs. Near Lake Herman State Park, older cabins and year-round homes need weather-sealed outdoor units rated for South Dakota freeze-thaw cycles. We also serve Wentworth, Chester, Colton, Howard, and Arlington.

Straight

Straight Rail on Historic Oak Treads

Madison Historic District, SD Installed March 2026

The Andersons' 1898 Dutch Colonial on NE 4th Street has original oak treads with 90 years of patina. They wanted a lift for Mrs. Anderson that would not damage the historic woodwork. The straight Bruno rail bolted through the treads with five anchor points — no wall attachment, no trim removal. From unboxing to test ride: just over three hours.

Lake Madison Peninsula Point, SD Installed April 2026

The Petersons' contemporary lakefront home has a sweeping staircase with a 90-degree turn at the upper landing and a half-wall overlooking the great room. Compact Install Near DSU Campus

DSU Campus Neighborhood, SD Installed February 2026

The Larsens live in a compact 1940s bungalow three blocks from the Dakota State University campus. The stairs are stone-tread with a tight 32-inch width — too narrow for a standard seat, but the slim-profile Bruno with a fold-up seat cleared with an inch to spare. Installed in a single morning. Mrs. Larsen now gets from her first-floor bedroom to the upstairs bath independently.

Outdoor Lift on Lake Herman Porch

Lake Herman Park Area, SD Installed October 2025

The Nelsons' year-round home near Lake Herman State Park has a stone-paved entry porch with six steps that ice over from November through March. Luis installed a weather-sealed Harmar outdoor unit with IP55-rated rail, sealed motor housing, and a UV-resistant vinyl seat. The rail is anchored to the stone treads with stainless hardware — no rust after a full South Dakota winter.

Carpeted Straight Run in Country Club Ranch

Country Club Area, SD Installed January 2026

The Millers' 1970s ranch near the Madison Golf & Country Club has a single straight staircase with beige carpeted treads. Mr. Miller needed a lift after a stroke affected his balance. The Bruno seat color matched the carpet nearly perfectly. The rail anchors went through the carpet into the treads — no subfloor damage, no visible fasteners. Standard residential install: three hours flat.

Platform Lift

Wheelchair Platform on Highland Avenue

Highland Avenue Area, SD Installed May 2026

The Thompsons' split-level on the south side needed a wheelchair-accessible solution for their son, who uses a manual chair full-time. A standard seat lift was not an option. Luis installed an inclined platform lift with a flat black deck, yellow safety edges, and a fold-up design that leaves the stairs clear when not in use. Indoor install with white handrail. Common Questions

Everything Madison Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift cost in Madison, SD?

A straight stairlift in Madison starts at $2,800 installed. Curved units, which we build custom after a laser measurement, start at $9,000. Outdoor lifts for Lake Madison or Lake Herman properties start at $4,000, and heavy-duty units rated for 600 lb start at $5,050. Every quote includes the rail, seat, installation, and a demo ride — no hidden fees.

Does Medicare cover stairlift costs in Lake County?

Original Medicare (Part A and Part B) does not cover stairlifts — they're classified as durable medical equipment but Medicare considers them a home modification, not a covered device. Some Medicare Advantage plans in South Dakota offer home-modification allowances; we help you check your specific plan during the assessment.

Are there any local Madison programs that help with stairlift costs?

The Lake County Veterans Service Office at 200 E. Center Street in downtown Madison helps local veterans file HISA grant applications. The HISA grant covers up to $6,800 for service-connected veterans and $2,000 for non-service-connected. For non-veterans, the South Dakota HOPE Waiver through Medicaid covers environmental accessibility adaptations — including stairlifts — for adults 65 and older who meet nursing-facility-level-of-care criteria.

Is financing available for a stairlift in Madison?

Yes — financing starts at $79/month through our partner lenders. There is no prepayment penalty, and most Madison customers get a decision within minutes at the in-home assessment. We also accept payment by check, credit card, or HISA grant reimbursement from the VA.

A word from Luis

Madison has two kinds of stairs I see every week. The first are inside the Victorians and Dutch Colonials on Egan Avenue — oak treads, tight turns, narrow risers. Those are the 1880s to 1920s houses, and they need curved rails about half the time because of the landing geometry. The second are the ranch-style homes spread across the south side and out toward Country Club Drive — wider stairs, carpeted treads, usually a straight run. Then you've got the Lake Madison places, where folks want outdoor lifts for the slope from the driveway down to the dock. Three different housing types, three different install patterns, and I know all of them cold.

People here look out for each other. We have the Lake County Veterans Service Office right on Center Street downtown — I send every veteran client there to get the HISA paperwork started. Dakota State University brings energy to the town, and I've put lifts into a few of the older faculty homes near campus. This is my territory, and I treat every install like it's going into my own grandmother's house.

Your Next Step

Ready to get started? It's simple.

Madison sits at the crossroads of Highway 34 and Highway 81 — a college town, a county seat, and a lake community all in one. Whether your stairs are inside a historic Egan Avenue Victorian, a south-side ranch, or hugging the slope at a Lake Madison property, we've installed that exact configuration before. The nearest VA medical center is 53 miles south in Sioux Falls, and the HOPE waiver through South Dakota Medicaid covers home modifications for qualifying seniors — we walk you through both programs at the free assessment.

Call us at (605) 256-4520 or fill out the form above. Luis or a member of his team comes to your home, measures your stairs, and gives you a real quote — no pressure, no travel fee. Most Madison installs happen the same week you call.
