Straight Stairlift

Most installed in Madison County

The workhorse of Huntsville's homes — from Twickenham Federals to Hampton Cove two-stories. Over 70% of the stairlifts we install in Madison County are this model. The slim-profile rail bolts directly into existing stair treads — never into the wall, never into the banister — and folds flat so the rest of the household can still pass. Battery backup rated for multi-day outages and a surge protector for Tennessee Valley thunderstorm season come standard.

Our Coverage Area

Stairlift Service Across Madison County

Madison County, AL

The Twickenham Historic District's Federal-era homes — some dating to 1815 — have original heart-pine treads and hand-turned banisters we never touch; the rail bolts into treads only. Old Town and Five Points bungalows from the 1920s-1950s have narrow stairwells where the compact-profile seat is standard. Monte Sano's hillside cottages need humidity-sealed outdoor rails for elevated entries. Jones Valley's 1970s split-level ranches require curved rails through mid-landing turns. Hampton Cove's newer two-stories are the fastest installs in Madison County and our highest-volume HISA route for Redstone retirees. Adjacent Madison, Meridianville, Harvest, and Moores Mill are all within our coverage area — no separate trip fees.

Straight

1819 Twickenham Federal home — straight rail on original dark hardwood treads

Twickenham, AL Installed March 2026

An 1819 Federal-era home in the Twickenham Historic District with original dark hardwood open-tread stairs and a hand-turned walnut banister. The straight rail was bolted directly into the hardwood treads on the right side — never touching the irreplaceable banister — and the beige seat sits unfolded at the bottom landing in the warm indoor setting. We brought five finish samples on the first visit and matched the rail to the 200-year-old heart-pine. The Thorntons' Preservation Society neighbors came for Sunday dinner and didn't notice the lift until Mrs. Thornton pointed it out.

Old Town bungalow — curved rail around the upper-floor landing

Old Town, AL Installed February 2026

A 1928 bungalow in Old Town with a staircase that turns 90 degrees at the upper landing where it meets the second-floor hallway. Mrs. Harper had been sleeping on the couch since her husband passed — the stairs with the turn at the top were too much alone. We laser-scanned the geometry, fabricated a curved rail that bends smoothly around the half-wall at the upper landing, and parked the brown-upholstered seat at the top floor. A chandelier above the landing and framed artwork along the stairwell stayed untouched. Mrs. Harper slept in her own bedroom that night for the first time in four months.

Jones Valley ranch — compact straight rail beside the entryway sideboard

Jones Valley, AL Installed January 2026

A 1974 ranch in Jones Valley with stone-style tile treads and a compact traditional layout — a wooden sideboard with a potted plant sits at the base of the stairs in a cozy, cottage-feel entryway. Mr. Wallace retired from Redstone Arsenal's Missile Defense Agency and his knees couldn't handle the stairs anymore. We installed a straight rail on the tile treads with the brown-upholstered seat parked at the bottom near the sideboard, keeping the compact passage clear. The traditional feel of the space — warm, lived-in, decades of family photos on the wall — stayed undisturbed.

Monte Sano hillside — outdoor lift on stone-paved porch entry

Monte Sano, AL Installed December 2025

A 1958 hillside cottage on Monte Sano with a raised front entry and rough natural stone paving between the walkway and the front door — the kind of elevated porch common in Huntsville's mountain homes. Mr. Lawson built the house himself as a young NASA engineer and has lived there for 67 years. We installed a weather-resistant cream-colored outdoor stairlift on the stone-paved porch steps, sealed the motor housing against Monte Sano's high humidity, and anchored with stainless fasteners for the mountain's direct lightning exposure. Natural daylight from above, carpeted outdoor tread at the bottom step, and a surge protector completed the install.

Hampton Cove two-story — straight rail on carpeted stairs with landing

Hampton Cove, AL Installed November 2025

A 2006 two-story in Hampton Cove with carpeted stairs and a small landing area — brown carpet covering the treads, wall-mounted light switches along the stairwell, tiled floor at the bottom. Mr. Davidson retired from the Army Materiel Command at Redstone and qualified for HISA through the Birmingham VA Health Care System's Huntsville VA Clinic — we prefilled the paperwork and the grant was approved in four weeks. The brown-upholstered seat blends with the carpet tones, and a swivel-exit at the landing ensures a safe step-off onto the hallway floor.

Platform Lift

Five Points craftsman — indoor wheelchair platform lift for stairway access

Five Points, AL Installed October 2025

A 1935 craftsman in the Five Points Historic District where Mrs. Chen's husband uses a wheelchair and cannot transfer to a seated stairlift. The indoor stairway between the main floor and the upper rooms — warm-toned walls, a window along the stairwell — needed a wheelchair platform, not a chair. We installed an inclined platform lift with a flat black anti-slip deck and bright yellow high-visibility safety edges along both sides, plus a white handrail. The flat platform folds up against the wall when not in use, keeping the original quarter-sawn oak banister visible and the stairway open for other family members.

Common Questions

Everything Huntsville Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift actually cost in Huntsville right now?

Straight rails in standard Huntsville homes — the Hampton Cove two-stories, the Jones Valley ranches, the newer Research Park tracts — run $2,800 to $5,500 installed. Curved rails, needed for 1970s Jones Valley split-levels with a mid-landing turn and for some Old Town bungalows with winding stairs, run $9,000 to $15,000 because the rail is manufactured to your exact geometry. Outdoor and humidity-sealed models for Monte Sano hillside entries and raised front porches run $4,000 to $7,500. Every quote is written, honored for 30 days, and includes installation, rail, seat, battery backup with surge protector, and the first service visit.

Are there additional charges for homes in Twickenham or Five Points Historic District?

No additional charge for the historic district. Interior stairlifts don't require Historic Preservation Commission review — only exterior-visible modifications on contributing structures trigger that process. If you need an outdoor lift on a contributing home in Twickenham, we handle the preservation application at no charge. The only occasional add is a dedicated circuit in a pre-1920s home with undersized wiring.

Do you charge extra for Spanish-language service?

No. Every Madison County assessment can be conducted in Spanish at your request. Every printed quote, consent form, and operating manual is available in Spanish. Zero surcharge.

Does the surge protector come standard?

Yes. Madison County sees some of the highest lightning-strike densities in the Southeast during the spring thunderstorm season. Every Huntsville install ships with a surge protector rated for the Tennessee Valley's electrical environment as baseline — not as an upcharge.

A word from Luis

Most Huntsville families call me after a specific moment — a stumble on the stairs of a Twickenham Federal-era home, a retired Redstone Arsenal engineer whose knees gave out two years after he left the missile program, a daughter in Nashville worried about her father in a Monte Sano cottage he built in 1962 and will never voluntarily leave.

My job is simple: get to your house within 24 hours, measure once, and give you a price that's honored for 30 days. No pressure. No upsells. En español si lo prefiere.
