Located in southwestern Orange County directly north and west of Walt Disney World at about 108 ft elevation, its flat terrain is laced with a network of greenbelts connecting the villages.

Horizon West is still being built out — five villages (Bridgewater, Lakeside Village, Hickory Nut, Ovation, Seidel) wrapped around a town center that barely existed twenty years ago, and the housing count jumped to 20,965 units by 2020 after the population grew 315% in a single decade. Almost all of that stock is new-construction two-story product, the kind of floor plan that puts the primary suite up a flight of stairs whether the household is a young family near the Disney job corridor or a parent who's moved in with one. A stairlift on that staircase solves the same problem here as it does in a fifty-year-old neighborhood — the house is just five years old instead of fifty.

What makes Horizon West different
Why a stairlift installed in Horizon West, FL is planned around the way this specific community lives, not stamped out from a one-size-fits-all template.
Horizon West is one of the nation's fastest-growing master-planned communities, built almost entirely of new construction across a town center and five villages (Bridgewater, Lakeside Village, Hickory Nut, Ovation, Seidel); its housing stock jumped to 20,965 units by 2020 as population grew 315% over the decade.

Stairlift Service Across Orange County
Because Horizon West is unincorporated Orange County, permits run through the Orange County Development Services Division on Kaley Avenue, not the City of Orlando Permitting Services. The Florida Building Code and DBPR licensing requirements are identical, but the permit desk and inspection schedules are separate. We've worked both sides of that line for years. Coverage extends west to Winter Garden and Oakland, south to Windermere and Doctor Phillips, and north to Lake Butler and Bay Hill — no travel fees anywhere inside the Horizon West corridor.

Hear It From Your Horizon West Neighbors
How stairlift projects tend to go for homeowners in Horizon West. Drag to scroll, or use the arrows and dots below.
We retired from Long Island to a Pulte two-story in Hamlin and my husband had a total knee replacement six months later. Nobody tells you the master bedroom on the second floor becomes a problem when you can't bend your knee past 90 degrees. Luis measured on a Tuesday and installed on a Thursday — three and a half hours, no mess, quiet as a ceiling fan.
My mother lives alone in a Toll Brothers home in Lakeshore and I'm in New Jersey. She stopped going upstairs after Dad died and was sleeping on the living room sofa. I called All American, they let me join the assessment on FaceTime so I could see the stairs and hear every measurement, and the curved rail was installed ten days later.
Our WaterMark home is a Meritage energy-efficient build and my husband needed the lift before his spinal surgery discharge. All American measured on Wednesday and installed on Friday — he rode it home from the front door the same afternoon. Fifteen treads, straight run, no drama.
I'm a retired Air Force E-7, service-connected back injury, and I get my care at the Orlando VA out at Lake Nona. My Hamlin home has a garage-to-entry rise that's only four steps but it was the four steps keeping me from leaving the house. Luis pre-filled VA Form 10-0103, walked it through the HISA office, and the grant covered the full outdoor install with hurricane straps and weather sealing.
I moved from Connecticut to a Taylor Morrison townhome in Lakeside Village after my husband passed — walkable to the Town Center, which was the whole point. Then I had a hip replacement and the stairs became a wall. All American fitted a slim-profile rail in three hours. The footrest folds up so my neighbor's grandkids can still run up and down without tripping.
My father-in-law is recovering from bariatric surgery and the standard 300-lb frame wasn't safe for early recovery. All American specified a reinforced 500-lb frame, timed the install to the day before his discharge from AdventHealth Celebration, and FaceTimed me through the whole assessment from Philadelphia so I could see every anchor point before we committed.

Everything Horizon West Homeowners Actually Ask
Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding, no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.
How much does a stairlift cost in a Horizon West home?
Most Horizon West staircases are straight runs from new-construction floor plans, sometimes with a landing partway up, which keeps pricing toward the straight-rail end of the range rather than the more expensive custom-curved end. A landing partway up a flight can call for a short custom-bent section of rail where the stairs turn, so the exact number depends on that run, not the neighborhood or village name. We quote off photos or a walkthrough, not a phone guess.
Does a five-year-old house cost less to fit than an older one?
Usually a little, yes — modern stud spacing and standardized tread widths across the Horizon West villages mean fewer surprises during the walkthrough than we'd expect in an older home with settled or non-standard framing. It's not a discount program, just less time spent solving problems before the install crew even starts.
How long does installation take on a Horizon West staircase?
A straight-rail install on one of these newer two-story homes typically runs a half-day. If the stairway has a landing and turn, plan on a bit more time and a longer lead on the custom-bent rail section, since that piece is built to the exact bend rather than pulled off a shelf.
Will installing a stairlift damage a new staircase or trigger HOA review?
No damage to worry about — the rail bolts to the treads, not into drywall or stucco, and comes off cleanly if it's ever removed. And since it's interior work, it falls outside the architectural review most Horizon West villages apply to exterior changes.
Can a stairlift go on a staircase with a landing, not just a straight flight?
Yes. A number of the two-story plans across Bridgewater, Lakeside Village, and the other villages use a straight run to a landing rather than one continuous flight. That gets handled with a custom-bent rail section at the landing, built to that specific turn.
Does Florida Medicaid cover a stairlift for someone in Horizon West?
Statewide Medicaid Managed Care Long-Term Care (SMMC LTC) is available to Orange County residents through the enrollee's managed-care plan, but AHCA's own description of the Home Accessibility Adaptation benefit names only grab bars and specialty toilet seats, and explicitly excludes major home changes — stairlifts aren't listed either way. Call the SMMC statewide helpline at 1-877-711-3662 and ask your plan's case manager directly before counting on it.
What about VA benefits for a veteran living in Horizon West?
The VA's HISA grant specifically excludes stairlifts — it's for ramps, widened doorways, and roll-in showers, capped at $6,800 for a service-connected disability or $2,000 for non-service-connected. A stairlift itself can instead be covered through VA Prosthetics with no set dollar cap when a doctor prescribes it medically. Reach the Orlando VA Medical Center at 407-631-1000 to start that path.
Is there a local aging-services program that helps with home modifications here?
Community Care for the Elderly (CCE), administered in Orange County by Senior Resource Alliance as the Area Agency on Aging for PSA 7, lists "emergency home repair" among its services, but stairlifts aren't itemized in the published program description. Call Senior Resource Alliance at (407) 514-1800 or the Elder Helpline at 1-800-96-ELDER to ask what emergency home repair covers for your situation.

Most of my calls out here don't come from the homeowner — they come from an adult child in Bridgewater or Ovation asking about a parent who just moved in with them, because Horizon West skews young (median age 34, under 8% of residents 65 or older) and multi-generational rather than retiree. The stairs in these newer builds tend to run longer, straight flights with a landing partway up, which usually makes for a clean install once we know the run. If you've got the builder's floor-plan name handy when you call, it saves me a trip just to get a rough number to you.
