Stairlift Service Across Jefferson County

Jefferson County, AL

Homewood is seven neighborhoods stitched together by the 1926 merger plus later annexations. Edgewood (south of US-31) is mostly single-family bungalows — narrow 32-inch stairs, original heart pine treads, tight upper landings. Mayfair sits closer to downtown Homewood with foursquares and 1930s cottages. The Hollywood Historic District (added 1929) has Mission Revival cottages on Saulter Road with even tighter staircases. Rosedale and Grove Park are the historically Black neighborhoods with bungalows from the 1920s alongside postwar ranch homes — wider stairs, simple straight-rail runs. West Homewood is more 1950s ranch homes — simpler installs, wider treads. Forest Ridge sits on the hillside above Lakeshore Drive with newer two-story homes that often have the 90-degree upper-landing turn requiring a curved rail.

Common Questions

Everything Homewood Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift cost in Homewood, AL?

A straight rail in an Edgewood bungalow or West Homewood ranch runs from $2,800 installed. Curved rails — common in the Forest Ridge two-stories with the upper-landing turn — start at $9,000. Outdoor units start at $4,000 and heavy-duty (up to 600 lb) starts at $5,050. Quotes include rail, seat, install, and 5-year warranty.

Are there permit fees for Homewood installs?

The City of Homewood does not require a permit for residential stairlifts as they are not structural alterations. The historic districts (Hollywood, Rosedale, Rosedale Park) have no restriction on interior accessibility devices. The quote you get is the price you pay.

Can I finance a stairlift on a fixed income?

Yes. Financing starts at $79/month with terms up to 60 months. We also work with the Alabama Elderly and Disabled (E&D) Waiver and the VA HISA grant ($6,800 service-connected, $2,000 non-service-connected) to bring the out-of-pocket cost down.

Do you offer rental stairlifts in Homewood?

Yes — rental is the right move if a parent is recovering from hip or knee surgery and only needs the lift for 3-6 months. Monthly rental on a straight rail runs about $250/month with no install fee. We pull the rail when you're done and patch the small anchor holes.

A word from Luis

Homewood is one of Birmingham's oldest suburbs, formed in 1926 when Edgewood, Rosedale, and Grove Park merged. The historic housing stock here is what makes my job interesting — pre-1940 bungalows in Edgewood, foursquares in Mayfair, and the cottages in the Hollywood Historic District (on the National Register since 2002). Many of these homes have narrow 32-33 inch stairs and old-growth heart pine treads, which actually grip anchors better than modern engineered framing.

I've installed in the Edgewood walking neighborhood off Broadway, the Hollywood cottages off Saulter Road, and the post-war Forest Ridge ranch homes up on the hillside. The Hollywood and Rosedale historic districts have no exterior modification restrictions on stairlift installs because the rails are interior — but the cottages there are tight, and the slim-fold seat is almost always the right call.

— Luis Ramírez, Homewood
Your Next Step

Ready to get started? It's simple.

Homewood's housing variety means every install is a slightly different job: tight Edgewood bungalow, tight Hollywood cottage, wider West Homewood ranch, two-story Forest Ridge with the curve. We've done enough Homewood homes to size up the right rail in one walk-through.

If your parent or partner is in any of these neighborhoods and the stairs are getting harder, we'll come measure for free. Most jobs take 3-4 hours on a straight rail, and the install leaves the historic trim intact.
